Safeguarding
Children’s safety and well being is central to all the work undertaken
here at Ollie’s. All staff are fully trained and regular relevant CRB
checks are carried out ensuring they have the skills to enable them to
respond appropriately to any situation where a child may be at risk of
abuse or neglect. Ollie’s will work in partnership with parents as far as
possible to protect the best interests of the child(ren). However, the
safety and welfare of children will be Ollie’s paramount consideration t
all times. We have a duty to protect children and will pass on any
concerns to the appropriate agencies.
Learning around Ollies.
Children are competent learners and develop and learn in a wide
variety of ways. We look, listen and carefully observe all our children,
consider their needs, their interests, and their stages of development
and use all this information to help plan a challenging and enjoyable
experiences both indoors and outdoors. Breakfast and Afterschool club
children use a rota system for the computer and the juniors are allowed
to use computers within the resource area to play games or complete
homework.
In Breakfast club, The children choose the activities they wish, or help
staff prepare for the nursery sessions by sorting name cards, getting the
toys out for the outdoor play and preparing craft ideas. As most of our
children attend Oliverson’s Primary School, a member of staff escorts all
the children up to their relevant classrooms at 8.45am.
In After school club, at the beginning of the session, the children are
given the option of what resources they would like to be available that
evening and what activity they would like to take part in.
.
When the weather allows, we access the school field, trim trail and local
park, sometimes taking snacks out for picnics or parachute games,
footballs or treasure hunts. The children have access to the outdoor
environment during most sessions
We provide quiet reading areas for the children to read. The younger
children enjoy listening to the older children read stories, they really
build up fantastic relationships with others throughout the school,
whom they can relate to whilst here and throughout their school day.
Each day activities range from cookery to drama and many wonderful
craft ideas as well as outdoor games and gardening.
The teachers are given a list of children who are attending afterschool
club each day and they will guide the children down to Ollie’s. If
children attend clubs afterschool and wish to come to after school club
after these clubs, written confirmation of this should be forwarded to
Ollie’s prior to this so that collection of the children can be organised.
Likewise if the children are not attending these clubs and usually do,
please let Ollie’s know.
