Principal’s
Message
This week Year 7-10 exams all week. Girls
cricket Wednesday with Brooke and Willa competing in representative cricket and a 40
overs match on Friday in Gilgandra. Hopefully the
weather will be fine but not very hot for the
cricket. Our 40 overs side has had two very good
wins in the last two rounds but Friday’s opposition
is very strong and we are travelling to the game. I
have banned them from watching the Australian
team both for their ability to quickly count to one
hundred and their cricketing ability.
Year 7-10 core subject exams are this week. I
spoke to students on assembly and mentioned
that they need to be honest with themselves.
Often teachers and parents can be fooled in
relation to the quality and level of preparation but
they cannot fool themselves. These exams will not
greatly affect the outcomes of your child’s life but
they are important building blocks in developing
exam skills for the future.
Last week the school received the results of the
Valid Science on-line test. This is a competition
open to schools across the state. Aidan Kirk achieved a score which placed him in the top 5
percent of all candidates. This closely follows
Aidan achieving band six in the NAPLAN test last
year. This achievement is yet again proof that
students can achieve anything in country schools. I
still go to state meetings and fellow Principal’s
react in a fashion of pity when I say I am from
Trundle Central School. Well pity me if you like
because this school is achieving in relation to the
building positive learning outcomes with students
that other schools can only envy.
Last Friday the Remembrance Day Celebration
was conducted in very hot weather. Our students
were amazing in the way they conducted
themselves. They showed respect for the occasion
and the speakers. I wish the Department had a
graph that measured these types of qualities in
children.
The concrete slab for the School to Work Program
shed has been finally poured. The constant wet
weather over the last few months has delayed this
project. This shed will house our small motors
program and the School to Work workshop. This
is an example of Local Schools Local Decisions
allowing us to provide flexible curriculum that
meets the needs of our students.
I am often asked about the development of pre-
school skills. A child entering Kindergarten needs
some basic skills such as self-care, appropriate
gross and fine motor skills, the ability to respond
appropriately to requests and some basic pre-
literacy and numeracy skills. The most effective
way of developing these skills is to talk to your
children and encourage appropriate responses,
not talk at them or direct and read to your child.
Reading develops cognitive ability and imagination
but also encourages the longer attention span
necessary for school.
In other good news the Trundle Progress
Association has agreed to release 20,000 dollars
from community money to help fund our tennis /
netball court. This facility is going to be open to
the public for a small hire fee and eventually have
lights for night time competitions. I believe it will
be a massive boost to sport both in the school
and town. We have raised 46000 dollars. The
current quote is 86000 so we have a challenge
ahead. The Department’s property officer is
coming to the school on Wednesday this week to
measure and prepare an additional quote.
The town pool is a fantastic facility which we are
blessed to have in the town. I believe the
community needs to make sure the change in
management does not create a change in the pool
culture. The current people running the facility are
good efficient people and I have no problem with
them. My concern is that often corporatisation of
management creates a one rule for all mentality
that fails to take into account the unique
characteristics of a community. Recently I had a
small issue in relation to the exclusive booking of
the facility. Previously it could have been sorted
locally without me having to wait on hold for a
considerable period and then been told the

person with the answers is not available. Maybe
we were living in a false economy before and this
is the new more efficient way of running the
facility. I wonder?
On occasions children will become sunburnt which
is almost a rite of passage in Australia. This school
strictly follows a sun-safe policy. This means that
your child requires a hat this time of year.
Repeated sunburn leads to sun cancer, the most
common type of cancer in Australia. Sunburnt
children stand out in the playground for all the
wrong reasons and schools are required to report
students that are repeatedly burnt to the Child
Wellbeing Unit because it is a form of neglect.
The American election was a surprise result and it
does have ramifications for Australia. One example
is the Trump administration seems to be moving
towards protectionist trade barriers especially for
commodities. Another affect could be the total
absence of bricklayers as they move to America to
start the wall between Mexico and USA. This
election result and the Orange bi-election also
could be a movement away from traditional
politics and the ruling elite that have dominated
politics in both countries. The American people
registered a protest vote because of the
dominance of power and decision making amongst
a few. Hopefully the transition of power will be
through the ballot box as America can become
violent quickly. I heard a child on Channel Seven
news say this is the start of World War 3. History
teachers should be proud that he knows world
wars occurred before but I think that is a bit of an
over reaction.
Harvest is commencing and the amount of traffic in
the street should increase in the next few weeks. I
encourage parents to be aware of this especially
for young children riding bikes. The width of our
main street creates false confidence in our children
on push bikes and challenging a fully loaded truck
is never a good outcome.
Recently Ben Barber was found to have cocaine in
his system after some Mad Monday celebrations.
This is a shame on many levels. This young man is
one of those players that is blessed with rare
talent. He could also be a role model to his
people. I blame the Sharks coaching staff because
they constantly told him to strive to get over the
white line. Hopefully he can come back because
the game needs its superstars.
Another great week in Trundle

Student Absences
If your child is away for any period of time the school
needs to be notified each day that they are away and
within 7 days.
i.e. Your child is sick on Monday.
You should ring and notify the school that
our child is away. Your child then continues to be away for the next couple of
days. You still need to notify the school each day that
your child is away.
Please be aware that even when you notify the school,
whether it be a sick or leave day, it still goes against your
child’s attendance rate, which is harvested from our school
by Departmental Officers.

K-6 news For a 2-week period, K-6 are participating in
gymnastics run by Mandy from Tullamore
Gymnastics and Fitness Club. The students are
learning to use their bodies in different ways.
Gymnastics helps children to improve their
strength, balance and coordination and the children
certainly had a great time last week.
This Thursday, 17th November all K-6 will again
have the opportunity to experience some
gymnastics with a qualified instructor. The students
are asked to wear sports uniform on Thursday.

Assembly Another fantastic assembly was held on
Friday, 11th November. Selected students
from each class enjoyed the opportunity to
host the assembly. We were thoroughly
entertained by a PowerPoint of the K-2
Wambangalang Excursion, the reading of
poetry by selected students and also the reading of
My Place stories from Year 5/6 students. The
highlight of the assembly was the presentation of
Top Student Awards to three deserving students.
Well done James Smith, Jake Callow and Lionel
Hartig!
Sun Safe Policy This term is a No Hat No Play term. Students
MUST wear a wide brimmed hat. This means
that if they do not have a hat, they cannot
participate in any outdoor activities including lunch
time play. We keep a small selection of spare hats
for those students who accidently forget their hats.
These hats are washed regularly but are not to be used every day by the same students. We will
endeavour to call parents to let them know their
child has forgotten their hat so that it can be found.
Please make sure you put your child’s name
inside their hat.
Kindergarten/Year 6 Transition This week will be the fifth week of Kindergarten/
Year 6 Transition sessions that will run throughout
the term. This year the sessions will run from 8:55
– 11:20am. This will allow the Pre-schoolers and
Year 6 to engage in some fantastic activities to
ensure the transition from both Preschool and
Primary School is a smooth and enjoyable
experience. All classes in primary will be moving up into the
next group for these sessions. It is a great way for
the students to practise being in a new class.
K-6 Swimming For Sport K/1/2 will be going to the pool for Sport this Friday.
Please ensure you have returned your permission
note to the front office.
Please ensure your children have swimmers, a
towel, sunscreen, a swim shirt and $2 for
entry to the pool unless you have a season ticket.
We will be walking back to school at the end of
sport unless we have been notified of alternative
arrangements.
Gobondery Shield Notes will be sent home today to inform parents
and students about the Gobondery Shield day
which will be held on Thursday the 24th November.
This event is for students from Year 2 through to
Year 6. It is a fantastic day of sports, trivia,
swimming and dancing. This year it will be held in
Tottenham.

Secondary
Our students have completed their first week of
exams and are now starting the core exams of English,
Mathematics, Science and HSIE. The students have all
had exemplary behaviour so far and should be
congratulated for this. On Friday our 40 Over cricket team once again
displayed their skills in another convincing victory.
Well done to the students and thanks to Ms Rowlands
for her supervision. A special mention of both teams
stopping to observe a minute silence at 11.00 for
Remembrance day. Thanks to all the volunteers who were at our
afternoon tea on Friday. Our Secondary students
benefit from the support and specialised knowledge of
so many locals it is a real pleasure to be able to say
thanks, both to those who could make it an those who
couldn’t. As usual the vast majority of our students are
continuing to progress up the welfare levels. It is
important that all students realise that these levels
dictate what they are able to participate in while at
school. This includes excursions and sporting teams. If
any parents would like to discuss any aspects of their
students’ behaviour or our school welfare policy they
are always welcome to contact me at school.
Have a great week

40 Overs Cricket Our 40 over cricket team will head to Gilgandra
on Friday to take on Gulargambone in the 3rd
round of the Central Schools Cricket knockout.
This is the same school we beat in the final of the
competition last year so I am sure it will be a
competitive match. Good luck to the team.
40 Over Cricket Last Friday the 40 Over Cricket team took on
Dunedoo Central School on home turf at
Berryman Oval. Trundle won the toss and sent
the opposition into bat. Dunedoo were slow
scorers but difficult to get out. With some
cracking catches by Brad Watt and some perfect
line and length by a number of bowlers, Dunedoo
were all out for 55 runs. The players stopped just
before 11am to have a minute’s silence for
Remembrance Day. This was a special moment for
our players and Miss Rowlands was extremely
proud of their attitude towards this day.
It seemed to be Brad Watt’s day as he opened the
batting in style. He scored a total of 39 runs not
out to give Trundle the victory. Wills Wells
supported him scoring 4 not out. This takes
Trundle into round 3 of the competition. Thanks
to Mrs Morgan for organising the day and Miss
Rowlands for supervising and scoring. Stay tuned
for Round 3.

Last week the senior room was a buzz with talk of the US
elections. The results may have been shocking but it wont
change Australia’s place in the world. To commemorate
this I imagined the senior playing a very American game,
having fun and competing against each other for glory.

Look out - it's the blob that ate Christ-
mas! Lovely Santa. He brings joy and gifts
to children around the world. Secretly,
he's also a bit of a slob. He loves snacking
on the treats children leave for him on
Christmas Eve, but he isn't quite as inter-
ested in washing his face and combing his
beard. This year, the result isn't just gross
- it grows into something so monstrous
that it destroys all the toys in Santa's

ate Christmas? Or will the reindeer's
secret talent save the day?
