Bryce Martens

I’m the guy who likes to play second trumpet in a brass quintet. I’ve been doing just that since 1970 in the Royal Court Brass. I also

play in a couple of community groups on the Peninsula, including the Golden Gate Radio Orchestra and Paul Price’s Society

Orchestra. In addition, I do some brass quartet/quintet arranging and conducting.

My “day gig” is as a computer science instructor at College of San Mateo. I also work on special projects for the school’s workforce

development department, and serve as a liaison from CSM’s career education program to the K-12 schools in San Mateo County.

Previously, I worked at Signature Systems and Qantel Business Systems. I am a graduate of San Francisco State University (Statistics

and MBA).

Franklin Beau Davis

Trumpeter/Arranger/Bandleader Franklin Beau Davis leads three of the Bay Area's finest musical groups: The Brassworks, Gabriel's

Trumpets, and The Memorial Brass. He performs with Symphony Parnassus, Golden Gate Park Band, The E-Ticket Band, Silicon Gulch

Jazz Band and the Kally Price Blues Band. Franklin is also Jazz Cornetist and Cabaret Band arranger at The Speakeasy.

(TheSpeakeasySF.com) An alumnus of Lowell High School and San Francisco State University, Franklin teaches all the brass

instruments at his studio in Belmont, at Skyline College, and at Manor Music in Pacifica.

Stephen is Principal Trumpet and Contemporary Music Advisor for the Redwood Symphony, and has been Guest Artist-in-Residence

at numerous universities in the US, holding courses in Electronic Music Studio Arts and Composition at the Center for Experimental

and Interdisciplinary Art (SFSU). Stephen was a founding member of the Electric Weasel Ensemble, and more recently, SoundProof,

and is known internationally for his performances and writings on text-sound composition and sound poetry. Flamethrower, a CD of

new electroacoustic works for trumpet and flugelhorn performed by Stephen is currently available from Ravello Records.

Doug's been in the Bay Area for a hundred years and has played with almost everybody - classical, jazz, show, ensembles, etc.

Charles Newman

Hobby musician, starting with cornet and piano at age 5. Played trumpet with Stockton High School and Stockton Jr. College Bands.

Play trumpet and cornet with Deutscher Music Verein of San Francisco since 1985. Now frequent "jammer" on cornet with

TRADJAZZ (Santa Rosa based), and played for a time with Russian River Ramblers (traditional jazz). Retired from employment and

Brian Switzer

Brian Switzer has been an active member of the Bay Area music community for over twenty-five years. At the age of thirteen, he

played his first real gig as a member of a professional orchestra pit for a musical at the Fox Theater. While teaching privately for over

twenty years, he has helped many students achieve college music scholarships and also led a public middle school jazz band to the

NextGen Festival in Monterey several times. In 2012 he accepted a position as the solo trumpet player for the GRAMMY® Award-

winning band Train. Two years, hundreds of performances around the world, and several live TV appearances later, Brian developed

and released JazzDeck, an innovative educational resource that has quickly become an international hit among players and teachers

of all ages and ability levels. He started the NorCal Jazz Camp in 2007 and enjoys teaching improvisation to large groups of students

each summer. He is also a music instructor at Carlmont High School in Belmont, and teaches lessons out of his studio in Burlingame.

Jay Jordan is the Music Director at Junipero Serra High School and has been a freelance trumpet player in the Bay Area for nearly 40

Laura Shea-Clark

Laura moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in January 2006 and currently plays with the Santa Cruz Ballet Symphony,

Stanford Philharmonia, Palo Alto Philharmonic, Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, and Lyric Theatre. She also freelances

with Santa Cruz Symphony and several other area groups.

Laura grew up with a cornet in her hands, learning her skills through the Salvation Army Bands, Music Camps, and

Festivals. She is a founding member of the all-female Athena Brass Band. Her teachers have included Peggy Payton-

Thomas, Stephen Squires, Ron Modell, and Mark Ponzo. Born in Chicago, she played with the Chicago Youth Orchestra,

Northbrook Symphony, Elmhurst Symphony, West Suburban Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, Salt Creek Sinfonietta,

Northbrook Brass Quintet, and several other orchestras and concert bands.

Laura played nine seasons with the six-time National Champion Illinois Brass Band, serving as principal solo cornet for

three years. She then joined the Chicago Brass Band, which was the 2004 National Champion, representing North

America in the World Brass Band Competition in Kerkrade, Netherlands. She also performed with the CBB Players, the

brass band's award-winning 10-piece brass ensemble. In 2005 Laura won the North American Brass Band Association

adult slow melody competition.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Trumpet Performance and a Master of Arts in Library and Information Studies

from Northern Illinois University and is Library Services Manager at Mountain View Public Library in Mountain View,

California.

Guy Clark

Guy grew up in Northbrook, Illinois where he began playing trumpet at the age of nine. He studied trumpet with Yvonne

Harmon, Charles Geyer, Adolph "Bud" Herseth, and most recently, with Guy Piddington of the SFSO. While living in

Illinois, Guy held principal trumpet positions with Northbrook Symphony Orchestra, West Suburban Symphony, Lake

Forest Symphony, Highland Park Apple Tree Theatre, and many other groups.

He played more than ten years with the six-time National Champion Illinois Brass Band, serving as principal much of the

time. He also played principal and E-flat soprano cornet with the 2004 National Champion Chicago Brass Band and

performed with the CBB Players, the brass band’s award-winning 10-piece brass ensemble.

Guy is currently principal trumpet with the Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Palo Alto Philharmonic, and San Jose

Lyric Theatre Orchestra, and a member of the San Francisco Wind Ensemble. He frequently plays principal trumpet with

the Santa Cruz Symphony Orchestra and freelances throughout the Bay Area. He premiered trumpet concerto written for

him and the Palo Alto Philharmonic by Bay Area composer Lee Actor on April 8th, 2017.

Guy holds Bachelors of Science degrees from the University of Illinois in Chicago, in Biology and Bio-Engineering, but has

had a career in electrical engineering. He is currently an electrical engineer at Power Integrations in San Jose.

Mark Nemoyten

Mark Nemoyten has been performing and teaching in the Bay Area for over 30 years. He is equally at home playing in

settings as diverse as symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles, pop, funk, folk music, chamber music, and as a soloist. See
