Responding to historical conditions of a nineteenth-century Shaker farm site, I developed architecture which would interface with and re-purpose the existing buildings. This section describes a central space which connects all the elements of the program. 5

The new construction responds to the available height of the existing barn structures, re-purposing one as an auditorium. Our studio investigated this site through sectional drawing, macro-scale site analysis and model building. 7

Researching the historic Gaslight District in Ludlow Avenue, patterns and datum lines emerge from these facade studies. These drawings investigate the sculpting and articulation of the building planes. 9

My proposal for an “Environmental Learning Center” in the Gaslight District of Clifton, Cincinnati evolved into a technology recycling depot and “hackerspace” sculpture studio. The parking deck is also used for exhibition events (robot battles, etc.). 11

Focusing on digital fabrication, this project also yielded some organizational strategies for residential units located in a diverse, dynamic urban environment in downtown Cincinnati.

Cannon was the Architect of Record for a section of Novartis’ new biomedical research campus in Cambridge, MA. The design architects for these two buildings were Maya Lin and Toshiko Mori. I worked on a variety of analysis projects during design development such as these zoning diagrams. 19

This design by John Hejduk which incorporates primary geometric forms was used as a starting point to study interfaces between multiple systems of construction (wood framing, masonry and steel framing). Modeling and drawings were produced with Revit. 21

In this project I had the opportunity to consider what spatial factors would contribute to specific types of gallery spaces: one for viewing drawings, and one for viewing architectural models.

THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE HAND
The gallery spaces use various floor materials and subtle level changes to differentiate uses among the various gallery spaces. This plan shows a reception area (top right), a drawing gallery (bottom) and a 3D model space (left).
