Q: I just got a new NAS, how come I can’t configure it ? A: You need install “Utility” as management at the first. Please follow QIG for installation of utility and starting.

Q: I have hard disk formatted, can I put it in NAS directory, don’t need to reformat ?

A: NAS allowed format only FAT32. If your hard disk format is FAT32 then you can put it in NAS with no problem. Otherwise, with NTFS, FAT, the hard disk will reformat by NAS request.

Q: Could the folder be keep when I remove the hard disk to NAS ? A: Yes, the file can be keeping when you remove this hard disk into NAS. But there is one caution, you have to make sure there is just one partition within.

Q. Which version of Linux ?A. Linux kernel v2.4.20 with modification

Q. Is it Apache or any other web server ?A. No. It is  httpd  with modification.     For NAS, it provide the simple User Interface to configure the NAS via W

EB pages.

Q. I'd like to know which ftp server is used (proftpd, wftp etc...) ?A.  It is  gnuftpd .

Q. Samba 2.0 is a pretty old version, with security failures and missing some functionalities. Will it be possible to have, at least Samba 2.2. The best would be Samba 3.0 ?A.  Currently, we are porting to Samba v3.0.6 to security issues and many functions. But the flash size and memory size will be increased and BOM cost will more expensive. It takes longer time to port the Samba v3.0.6. Current version of Samba v2.0.x is much smaller and fitted into current smaller flash size and memory size.

Q : The configuration menu says "HD Unable to use" even though the HDD was formatted.A : First of all, I need you check if this hard disk stay as master. The hard disk for NAS using should stay on master, otherwise you would not able to format it. After you check above item and the web still shows “HD Unable to use” , please write down the module name of this hard disk .

Q : What's the maximum amount of shared folders?A : 100.  Q : When I copy/ delete files that file name is TRADITIONAL CHINESE, but in the NAS side, it appears abnormal codes, so I can't read/ delete files successfully.A : Currently, NAS support characters by 1 byte code . Chinese characters are 2 Byte code.

Q: A problem when confronted with it is access to this drive from Windows XP workstation. When we attempt to go in to the drive following window appears:

A: This is application issue. WinXP use guest as default login name.      So, for now NAS work with WinXP, please to go to make a "Network Drive"      There is item "connect use different user name". So you can change user name for this mapping and login folders.   ( Go map network drive\ connect use different user name )

Q: This is the first NAS product that I've seen that limits SAMBA attachments. Why is there a limitation?

A: Because PC OSs's memory are up to 128MB or more. PCs' CPU is x86-based and with MMU (Memory Management Unit) to support swapping. And the Linux OSs installed in PC, they use some of H.D. space for swapping. It is so-called virtual memory in Windows.  So, they can support many many NO# of Samba daemons in PC system.  But our NAS (Embedded System) used limited memory resource, and the CPU is MMU-less, it does not support the swapping.  So, user can see almost all of H.D. space usable for shared folders except very few are reserved for file system of H.D.  Therefore limited memory resource in Embedded System, and Samba   daemons takes lots of memory during running,  after estimated, we set the limitation to 5.
