• Project TRoNE (that is Trade Routes of the Near East) aims to define the character, dynamic, way and strength of Egyptian influence on social development of the Southern Levant in the period of Early Bronze I (ca. 3800-3050 BC).

• The phenomenon seems to be crucial for our understanding of the emergence of Egyptian state and the beginning of Levantine urbanisation.

• The project is based on experience gained by our team members at the Egyptian site of Tell el-Farkha, and one of its elements are excavations at the Israeli site of Tel Erani.

Area N

The most important discoveries of the season 2013 in Area N3 were the identification of the City Wall, the exposure of its faces which reveal that it was eight meters' thick, and the confirmation of Yeivin's dating most probably to EB1b1.

Area N hides remains of at least two periods of Egyptian presence at Tel Erani. Numerous bullets and shells with still visible serial numbersconnected with the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

At area D3H, due to the slope every square shows a different chronological unit starting from early EB II (Square G12) to late EB I (J12) where remains of Egyptian occupation were excavated. At D3L a part of the large building was found dating to the middle of the EB I. It was adjacent to the street previously excavated in the most western square of the D2. That led to the conclusion that both constructions - the building excavated by Kempinski & Gilead and by our team represents the same phase.
