Transalpina roadGorj, Valcea, Sibiu & Alba

Counties • Also called the “King’s Road”,

Transalpina is the road that connects Oltenia region and Transylvania.

• It is the highest altitude road in Romania that can be crossed from one end to another by car.

• Transalpina can be covered in about 3-4 hours on the trail Sebes, Sugag, Obarsia Lotrului, Ranca, Novaci.

Muddy Volcanoes, Buzau County

• The Muddy Volcanoes are located in Buzau County, in Paclele area, in the village of Berca.

• The Muddy Volcanoes are miniature craters which are formed because of the natural gas that comes from a depth of more than 3000 m.

• It lies on about 30 hectares and is a unique phenomenon in Romania, also rare in the world.

Fagaras Fortress, Brasov County

• Fagaras Fortress is the most imposing monument in the region, in Fagaras city, Brasov County.

• It is one of the largest and best preserved in the whole country, and even in Europe.

• Fagaras Fortress appeared for the first time in official documents in 1455, but its construction has started since the late fourteenth century.

Alba Iulia Citadel• One of the oldest settlements in Romania,

known in ancient time as Apulum, Alba Iulia served as the largest military and economic center during the Roman occupation.

• An Episcopal citadel and an important political, military and cultural center, Alba Iulia reached its peak between 1542-1690, serving as the capital of the independent Principality of Transylvania and the residence of the Transylvanian princes.

Palace of Culture - Iassy• The Palace of Culture, acknowledged as the

effigy of the city of Iasi, was built in Neogothic style and as such was one of the last expressions of Romanticism in the official architecture. 

• The Palace was partly built on top of ruins of the Medieval princely courts, mentioned in a document from 1434. The edifice was built between 1906 and 1925, and is the most outstanding work of Romanian architect I.D. Berindei, who was trained at the Parisian School.

Bicaz Canyon• Is located in north-east of Romania. The

canyon was dug by the waters of Bicaz River and it serves as a passageway between the Romanian provinces of Moldova and Transylvania.

•  The road is around 8 kilometres long of ravines and curves with rocks on one side and a sheer drop on the other. It is famous for being one of the most spectacular drives in the Romania.

Viscri Fortified Church

• Viscri village is a true Saxon architecture heritage: a beautiful white fortified church included in the UNESCO world heritage, many houses, some of them 300 years old, well preserved by the villagers.

Bigar Waterfall, Caras Severin County

• The water falls from a cliff, which is covered with moss. It is said to be the most beautiful waterfall in the country. The underground spring streams from the cave above and then falls into Minis River.

• Voted the most unique waterfall in the world.
