DeadlySin#6-ActingLikeNewClientsare“FreddyKrueger”…Over the years I’ve discovered that most Originators have a tremendous amount of per-sonal roadblocks about loving and believing in themselves. Not having incredible support leads to what I call “Originating Scared” where these per-sonal roadblocks combine with the fear your Client won’t have an awesome experience, and a Loan Officer starts to sabotage their own Business by being afraid to even put a new Client into their system… One of the greatest responsibilities I have is to support others in living at our highest and best. LifeisLikeaJarofMolasses…AKA: Underwriting has to be slow as hell to be thorough. You know what? I choose to work for a 25 billion retail mortgage company that publicly mandates their 48 hour maximum underwriting turn time. Please don’t settle for mediocre, if your Company doesn’t rise to the occasion like you do, then choose a better Mortgage Company to Originate for. You have the power, you are bringing the money to your Mortgage Company, and they are there to serve you. You make the money, so demand excellence and don’t settle. 2.There’sLessMeat(EvenThoughtheHogsareGettingFatter)…Lies, lies, LIES! If your Company isn’t transparent enough to disclose to you how much it steps on your rate sheet for Management, Compliance and Operations, then run away! Run Forrest RUN!!! The best Mortgage Rates and Prices don’t have to come with poor commission splits, if you are earning less than 90 basis points with ridiculous tiers and not offering your Clients the most competitive Rates and Mortgage Products, then you can do better for yourself, your Origination Business, your Clients, and your Referral Sources.

3.TheFoodInspectorSetstheMenu,NOTtheChef…Who’sincontrol?TheRegulatorsortheSalesDepartment?The fact, is some Mortgage Companies are completely terrified of their local DFI and the CFPB. Some Mortgage Companies limit Social Media Marketing and Marketing in general. Choose to Originate for a Company that understands that you are a Marketer first, Originator second. If you can’t Market your Business, how can you scale it and grow it? 4.YouHavetoBegForFirst&SecondHelpings…You DO NOT have to cold call or beg Realtors for business! You don’t have to buy them Zillow leads either!!! The fact is, Mortgage Loan Originators and Real Estate Agents can work very well to-gether since both parties are serving the same Client. To do it properly though you have to take your power back and create a business rela-tionship that truly benefits both parties. There is a powerful proven method of partner-ing with Real Estate agents that totally changes this game. If the Company that you Originate for doesn’t have Real Estate Marketing Tools ready for you to deploy (or give you a path that doesn’t reduce you to a powerless beggar) then your goal is to find a better way. 5.You’reThereto“ServeItUp&ShutUp”…Ask yourself this: Why would a Mortgage Company or Bank ever want their money mak-ers, their Mortgage Loan Originators, doing any tasks that aren’t directly relating to reve-nue generating activities? Before you do… there’s 2 things… Now, I’m not trying to sound like an arrogant ass when I say the following… Frankly, I simply want to make sure that I don’t waste your time, and you don’t waste mine. This isn’t for everybody, so we need to be completely upfront with each other! Sound fair?
