In December 88 PascoCounty children and theirfamilies celebrated Christmasearly and in a big way thanks to the Pasco PediatricFoundation (PPF).

PPFs 8th annual event, held this year at Sea Forestsclubhouse in New Port Richeyon Dec. 15, featured holidayactivities like decoratingcookies and stockings andgiving gifts to kids who may not findpresents under the tree Christmasmorning.

What makes this event so spe-cial is we shop from wish lists that thekids provide, said Heidi Tuttle-Beis-ner, President of the PPF. Theywere so excited when they openedthose presents because they got whatthey really wanted.

In addition to gifts, the kids alsoreceived jackets and Payless Shoe-Source gift cards. PPF also gave fami-lies HoneyBaked Ham Company gift

cards to purchase holiday dinners.Pasco Pediatric Foundations

gifts were primarily funded by theproceeds of its annual Filthy FunRun, a 5K mud run held in SpringHill, Fla., in November.

In addition to its annual holidayparty, PPF funds prescription vouch-ers for children in need of medica-tion, college scholarship aid for highschool seniors, and special requestsfor children in need.

From the Pasco Sheriffs OfficeDeputies from the Pasco Sheriffs

Office Land O Lakes Detention Centerhave recently created a new program thatis aimed at demonstrating to at-risk juve-niles the importance of making good de-cisions in their lives, and the negativeconsequences of when they make badchoices.

This eye-opening program featuresboth a PowerPoint slide presentation, taped video interviews with real jail in-mates, and descriptions from the deten-tion deputies real life experiences aboutwhat they see in jail every day.

Deputies understand the temptationsour modern society throws at kids today, and how it can lead them down thewrong road. The Juvenile Choice Pro-gram lists concrete ways in which pre-teens and teenagers can develop the skillsto become and remain productive citi-zens. These include: Have Goals in Life; You Become Who You Hang With;Every Decision has Consequences...Goodor Bad; Committing a Crime can HauntYou for Life; Be a Leader, Not a Follower;Be Proud and Stand Tall.

    Volunteers Needed for Tax ReturnPreparation

Pasco County is seeking volunteersfor its thriving volunteer income tax re-turn program supported by United Wayof Pasco County, AARP Tax-Aide, andthe IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax As-sistance) Program. Last year alone, weprepared and submitted more than 7,000returns, which helped bring residentsmore than $7.2 million in income re-funds!

The Volunteer Income Tax Assis-tance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling forthe Elderly (TCE) programs are commu-nity-based partnerships managed by theIRS that provide free tax return prepara-tion assistance to low-to-moderate in-come taxpayers. This year the IRS has setthe income limit at $57,000.

The Right Fit Foundation NotifyingParents of Seniors of FASFA Deadlines& Requirements

You may have heard, the FAFSA isfree and easy, you dont need help - justpress the button after you file your taxes

and youre done. Consider this: The IRSprovides instructions on how to fill outyour taxes, but not instructions on how topay the least amount in taxes. The same istrue for FAFSA. The foundation wouldbe happy to show you how to pay theleast for college.

Below is the financial aid timelineyou will have to work within over the nextseveral months:

January 1st the FAFSA will beavailable online. Make sure you know thefinancial aid deadlines for each collegeyour student has applied to. Dont forget, some colleges require the CSS Profile, W-2s or their own financial aid forms. If youhave questions about filling these out toyour best advantage, give us a call - weprovide free reviews.

December through February - Ad-mission decisions come during thesemonths and often include scholarship of-fers. Sometimes these offers have expira-tion dates in order to hook a family intocommitting to the college before receiv-ing offers from other schools.

March and April - Award Letters

Included in the program is a picturetour of the Land O Lakes DetentionCenter, designated as an end point to baddecisions. The kids learn about how theywill have to wear used inmate clothing, betold when to eat, see the less-than-desir-able food that is served in jail, and thesmall cells with toilets that will becometheir living space for months, if not years,to come.

Juvenile Choice Program partici-pants will hear testimonies from inmateswho describe their bad decisions and whythey ended up in jail. Inmates explain thatthey used to be just like them, until theylost focus in life, started hanging out withcriminals, drug users and drop-outs. In-mates woefully describe how they wishedthey had the chance to do it over again, and to make the right choices.

Other elements of the program in-clude insights from successful people inlife from the business, sports, and politicalworld. Pre-teens and teenagers will alsolearn that though mistakes and failure cancome even from good choices, this is avaluable part of life, as long as you learnfrom your mistakes, and keep striving tobe your best. Numerous quotes fromcelebrities provided to program partici-pants illustrate this, such as the one fromMichael Jordan: Ive missed more than

9,000 shots in my career. Ive lost almost300 games. Twenty-six times Ive beentrusted to take the game-winning shotand missed. Ive failed over and over andover again in my life. And that is why Isucceed.

We believe this program will be aneffective tool and become an importantpart of our interaction with these kids be-fore it is too late. We are working with ju-venile justice authorities, Pasco schoolpersonnel, and other organizations toreach as many of these kids as we can.

Acupuncture is a form of healingthat dates back thousands of years, andit is proven to relieve a variety ofsymptoms from back pain to addic-tion, from infertility to insomnia, andfrom depression to erectile dysfunc-tion. Acupuncture uses tiny, disposablesterile needles that are no bigger thana human hair to stimulate the bloodflow and the energy within the body. These needles are so tiny that, as a pa-tient, you can hardly feel them. Whenthese needles are placed by a profes-sional, multiple Board Certified Spe-cialist like Laura Bertoncini, A.P., thepositive effects can be felt almost im-mediately. Dr. Lauras Acupuncture &Holistic Practice is located at 15215US HWY 19 in Hudson, and Dr.Laura has been using acupuncture tomake a difference in peoples lives for10 years.

Eastern Medicine is different fromWestern Medicine in that medicine, aswe know it, is rarely used. Instead ofpopping pills made of chemicals, thefocus is on the food and the herbs that

enter the body, the pressure pointswithin the body, and the energeticmeridians that can be stimulated dur-ing acupuncture. The benefits ofacupuncture are too many to namehere, and the risks are very slight. Infact, I can speak for acupuncture per-sonally. After a car accident in 2009and a medical mishap that left me un-able to walk normally without shaking, and without a cane, I turned toacupuncture as a last ditch effort. I waswilling to try anything. I was veryskeptical, but I turned to a recom-mended doctor of acupuncture, and tomy utter amazement I was movingbetter after just one treatment. Afterfour treatments I was no longer usingmy cane, and after six, most of myother symptoms were gone. While Istill deal with chronic pain daily, andhave a neck injury that still may re-quire surgery, I have no doubt in mymind that acupuncture is a real solu-tion, and one that can truly make adifference in peoples lives.

Dr. Laura Bertoncini earned afive-year Masters Degree in Acupunc-ture and Oriental Medicine from East

West School of Natural Medicine inSarasota, Florida, where she graduatedat the top of her class. After graduat-ing, she was offered an externship atHealthSouth Hospital in Sarasotawhere she worked with their medicalstaff to treat many patients with a vari-ety of conditions. Dr. Laura is nation-ally Board Certified in Acupunctureand Oriental Medicine by the NC-CAOM (National Certification Com-mission for Acupuncture and OrientalMedicine). She also graduated withhonors from Florida MetropolitanUniversity in Tampa with a degree inBusiness.

Dr. Lauras mother is a physician, and her grandmother before her was anurse, so taking care of others seemsto run in the family. Growing uparound medicine, Dr. Laura has saidthat she was acutely aware of theamount of medicine that people weretaking, and she was intrigued by theEastern philosophy that uses holisticand natural remedies to treat patients.

Dr. Laura says, I saw that every-thing in medicine was treated withpills, pills, pills. After an immediate

family member had a disease, and themedicine they prescribed had seriousside effects, I got into alternative med-icine. In doing so I learned about Chi-nese Medicine and Acupuncture aswell. When I tried acupuncture sheput a needle in me and I felt some-thing. I knew then that there wassomething to it.

Dr. Laura also performs Reiki ather practice, which is a hands-on, en-ergy-focused healing practice. She has

completed level one and two of Reikitraining. She was trained by Dr.Huang from Orlando, in the specialtyof Auricular Medicine. In summary,Auricular Medicine is acupuncture ofthe ear!

Dr. Laura says, You can treat thewhole body by treating the ear.

Dr. Laura has ten years experiencein Western and Eastern Medicine, andis focused on treating one patient at atime in a caring, hands-on environ-ment. Her patients will tell you thattheir lives have changed for the betterbecause of her treatments.

Dr. Laura says, Using all of thesetechniques, and all three of thesemodalities, makes me unique. She

adds, These treatments allbuild on each other, so patientsfeel progressively better aftereach treatment. Most of my pa-tients have a six-week protocol, and I see them every week orevery two weeks. Then some-times they go to every month.Im a no-pressure kind of doc-tor.

    Acupuncture Changes LivesAcupuncture is different

than what you may be used to.Its a blend between medicine

as we know it, and an orient-themedspa experience, especially because thetreatment is soothing and relaxing. Itscomplexities take years to master, anda lifetime to hone, but those of us whohave been healed by eastern medicinewill tell you it truly makes a differ-ence.

Acupuncture can help people witha myriad of problems from depressionto infertility, and from headaches toobesity. Dr. Laura says, Most peopledont know that acupuncture can helpthe 30 million men that suffer fromED (Erectile Dysfunction). The menwith ED are usually 40 years old andup. Also for women I treat migraine,

menopause and infertility. [I also treat]stress-related issues like anxiety, panicattacks and depression.

One of her patients said, Due toa disc problem in my neck, I sufferfrom chronic neck pain and headaches.I have utilized acupuncturists previ-ously and gotten some relief, but neverto the degree I have gotten with Dr.Bertoncini. Dr. Bertoncini, who com-bines Reiki with her treatments, gaveme immediate relief from my first visitand sustained relief (at about an 85%improvement level,) over the threemonths I was a patient. Dr. Bertoncinitreats the whole person, she takes thetime to explain what she is doing andwhy and has a great bedside manner.I highly recommend Dr. Bertoncini toanyone serious about seeking pain re-lief.

Another patient said, At the ageof 13 I had two spinal surgeries forscoliosis that has left me in chronicpain. After 10 years of trying everymethod out there, I finally decided togive acupuncture a try. I was stunnedby how much relief I instantly feltfrom such a minimal, yet relaxing pro-cedure. Dr. Laura Bertoncini is ex-tremely knowledgeable and has beenable to almost completely reverse thepain that my scoliosis has caused for so

long. My mobility, pain level, andemotional state have all gotten betterand my everyday life has finally be-come manageable again.

In addition to Acupuncture, Reikiand Auricular Medicine, Dr. LaurasAcupuncture & Holistic Practice alsooffers a variety of massage therapiesfrom deep tissue to sports massage, allof which are performed by licensedmassage therapists that are on call forDr. Lauras patients.

The Acupuncture FaceliftThe Acupuncture Face Lift can

make you feel and look many yearsyounger, its true! People have beenusing this technique to increase colla-gen production and increase energy todraw up again everything that hasbeen drawn down by gravity. This isthe same Acupuncture Facelift that Dr.Oz has promoted on his program.

Dr. Laura says, I activate themany points in their face, and I directeverything up. It makes an amazingdifference. If people knew what Icould do here, Id have a line out thedoor!

If you experience chronic pain, struggle with migraine headaches, in-fertility, stress and anxiety or infertility, acupuncture can really make a hugedifference in your life. These are just afew of the conditions that can be suc-cessfully treated with acupuncture.

Dr. Laura says, For me this issomething that I love to do. I love tohelp people.

Your health comes first at PalmHarbor Chiropractic and RehabilitationClinic, located at 34258 U.S. 19 North.Dr. Bartley Kerr and his staff have alongstanding reputation in Palm Har-bor for providing excellent services totheir patients by personalizing treat-ment for every individual that is undertheir care and supervising a plan to im-prove every patients health and well-ness. In business for over fifteen years inPalm Harbor, Palm Harbor Chiroprac-tic and Rehabilitation has been at their

new, larger, state-of-the-art facility forjust over a year.

Palm Harbor Chiropractic and Re-habilitation Clinic emphasizes improv-ing your health in an effort to reducethe risk of pain and illness, so that youmay live your life to its fullest potential.Dr. Bartley Kerr, CEO, along with Dr.John DeCosmo, Dr. Anthony P. Di-giammo, Dr. Gordon Lovett, Dr. FrankReinhardt, and Dr. KevinMarcinkowski, are working together toensure that each one of their patientsgets exactly the right treatment for theirspecific needs.

Each new patient receives a full or-thopedic and neurological assessmentand x-ray upon their first visit with thepractice. During the initial visit, as well asthose to follow, ample time is taken toget to know the patient on a physical andpersonal level, which helps the doctorsand staff at Palm Harbor Chiropracticand Rehabilitation to thoroughly treattheir patients with the best care possible.

In-Network Insurance ProvidersTypically people dont go to see a

chiropractor for rehabilitation unlessthey have insurance and/or have had an

injury that is causing pain in their dailylives. Palm Harbor Chiropractic andRehabilitation Clinic is well-known forbeing an In-Network provider for mostInsurance companies, which limits out-of-pocket spending for their patients. Afull list is provided on their website atwww.palmharborchiro.com, however, ifyou dont see your insurance on the list, give them a call because the list is ever-growing and some may have beenadded before theyve even had time toupdate the list found on their site.

Retainer PracticeIn addition to being a leading In-

Network provider and accepting tradi-tional insurances, Palm HarborChiropractic and Rehabilitation Clinic isrevolutionizing health care in our areaby being the first in our area to intro-duce itself as a retainer practice. Dueto the increasing numbers of patientswith high deductibles on their insuranceplans and the ever growing number ofuninsured patients needing affordablecare, they have devised one of the firstchiropractic retainer practices in thearea. Already a big hit with medical doc-tors out west, retainer practices allow the

patient topay a smallmonthly feeand minimalco-pay upontheir visits.

Themonthly re-tainer fee isonly $39 amonth, and$15 for eachvisit to theoffice. Themonthly feeincludes thepatients firsttime visitcompletewith x-rays and health assessments. The$15 is good for any chiropractic adjust-ment and therapies, or half-hour mas-sage and therapies, or decompressionand therapies, or acupuncture and ther-apies as needed.

Dr. Kerr says that this new way ofpracticing is the way medicine was in-tended to be provided.

The wonderful thing about a re-tainer practice is that virtually anyone inneed of care can afford to have it. Thisis especially true for people without in-surance or those who are financiallystruggling. In some cases, even thosewith insurance policies can benefit from

the retainer program because of all thehigh deductibles that some insuranceplans require.

Another great benefit that comeswith choosing the retainer program isthat each patient has the freedom tochoose his or her type of treatment planand the ability to commit to their ownhealthcare. Dr. Kerr believes this willbring the patient empowerment and heand the staff are very excited to see thebenefits of the new retainer practice inthe new year of 2013.

Auto Accidents At Palm Harbor Chiropractic and

Rehabilitation Clinic, the staff is familiarwith auto accidents that lead to injury. But here, Dr. Kerr and his staff of pro-fessionals will treat you like a person, and not just a case number for insur-ance purposes. They will help you notonly get better, but also to navigatethrough the regulations and red tape re-lated to injury accidents.

There are now new laws in placethat are making patients claiming injuryor accidents adhere to a stricter set ofguidelines when seeking care. A newlaw in Florida, which addresses yourPersonal Injury Protection Coverageand went into effect on January 1,2013, states that people injured in autoaccidents will have 14 days to seek ini-tial treatment under the previous law

there was no cutoff. By having an M.D.

on staff, which is Dr.DeCosmo, Palm Har-bor Chiropractic andRehabilitation is able tomake an EmergencyMedical Conditionclaim for their patientsafter an auto injury ifthey have one. This en-ables patients to possi-bly receive all thebenefits of their auto in-surance to pay for theircare for their injuries. With Palm Harbor Chiropractic and Re-habilitation, the patient can go directlyto the source for claims and care, insteadof calling one of the other guys youknow, one of those 800-numbers toask for help, where they will then sendyou to one of their guys in a networkof their health care providers.

By going to Palm Harbor Chiro-practic and Rehabilitation to evaluateyour injuries, you will be examined byphysicians who are spine specialists.Their medical and chiropractic staff ishighly trained in this area. You will bethoroughly examined and x-rayed rightaway. If you have any condition thatwarrants further testing, you will be re-ferred for the appropriate tests.

Once you are fully assessed and

deemed to have an Emergency MedicalCondition, you will then begin theproper treatment for your injuries. Chi-ropractic adjustments, as well as otherphysiotherapy and rehabilitative meth-ods are used in doing so.

Wait time is minimal for those whoare suffering from pain, and they willnot you wait any longer than it takes tofill out your history before they beginthe process of healing.

Dr. Kerr and all of the other mem-bers that make up Palm Harbor Chiro-practic aim to treat each patient the waythey would want their own family mem-bers treated by providing the best carepossible.

ServicesThe Doctors of Palm Harbor Chi-

ropractic and Rehabilitation Clinic usetraditional methods combined withnewer methods of spinal adjustment, and are highly trained in which tech-niques work best for their patients.Newer methods of spinal adjustmentsare safer and offer more comfort to pa-tients. New techniques are proven toprovide better results, faster.

In addition to spinal adjustments,Palm Harbor Chiropractic is equippedwith a competent staff and state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the finest careis given to all of their patients.

The services available are struc-tured in a way that benefits each patientindividually according to his or her chi-ropractic needs. These services include

massage therapy, acupuncture, correc-tive exercises, spinal and postural advice,x-ray studies, and physiotherapy.

We published this story in our firstissue of the Westchase Area Neighbor-hood News and Lifestyles and with thereadership numbers growing every sin-gle month we thought it was impor-tant to print it again. Our main focusat the Westchase Area NeighborhoodNews and Lifestyles is to keep dollarsin our local economy. It is our missionto provide every single business in the33626 zip code and beyond with aquality vehicle to promote their busi-ness to all of their neighbors that iswhy we mail to every home and busi-ness in the Westchase area every singlemonth!

In todays rough economy, smalllocal businesses are closing their doorson a daily basis, while many big corpo-rate businesses still have the investorsand financial backing to pull through. There is nothing wrong with nationalcompanies by any means, but byspending our money in locally ownedbusinesses we can help our local econ-omy flourish instead of decline.

When we spend money locally, we

contribute to the wellbeing of the en-tire community. Local businesses buildstrong vibrant towns, linking neigh-bors in a web of economic and socialrelationships. Local ownership ensuresthat important decisions are made bypeople who live in the community andthus, will feel the impact of each deci-sion they make directly. Many localbusinesses recycle excess revenue bygiving back to the community in whichthey live; which enriches the area andcreates an even better place to live andlove. Locally owned and operated busi-nesses also create jobs and sometimespay even better than the big guys.

Competition is not a bad thing. Amarketplace of tens of thousands ofsmall businesses is the best way to en-sure innovation and above all, lowprices. For example, there are hun-dreds of restaurants within any givencity, some of which operate right nextto each other. This is necessary in athriving economy. Can you imagine ifthere was only one type of each busi-ness in each town? It would be a mo-nopoly and the price of a monopolizedproduct would be astronomical!

Entrepreneurship is whatfuels Americas economic in-novation and prosperity andserves as a key means for fami-lies to move out of a low pay-ing job and into the middleand upper class. By spendingmoney locally, we are puttingmoney directly back into thecommunity, therefore helpingyour family, your neighborsand your friends.

Every once in awhile you comeacross someone who truly makes a dif-ference in the lives of others, and notjust those they know, but more impor-tantly, those they dont know. Dedi-cated and sincerely created for thepurpose of helping individuals and fam-ilies in need, The Landon OutreachFoundation has been making a differ-ence in Pasco County since 2009.

The Landon Outreach Foundationis a non-profit, philanthropic organiza-tion that was sincerely born of the heartby Bruce N. Landon, MD and CherylLandon of Landon Plastic Surgery.Cheryl says, We wanted to be able toreach out to the community there area lot of people who need help.

Its this sincere spirit of giving thatdrives Landon Outreach Foundation,Landon Plastic Surgery and the SpaBoutique, which offers a variety of non-surgical health, beauty and wellnessservices. It all started with Landon Plas-tic Surgery, which is well-known to bea popular and trusted place for surgicalservices such as breast augmentation, body sculpting and facial procedures(just to name a few). Dr. Bruce Lan-

don has practiced plastic and recon-structive surgery in the area for nearly20 years, and in that time, he and hiswife have always contributed to thecommunity.

While the Landons donated formany, many years prior to starting theorganization, they raised the bar by cre-ating the Foundation which offers fi-nancial assistance, community serviceand food distribution in our area andbeyond. In fact, Dr. Landon travelsaround the world to perform surgicalprocedures for people who cannot af-ford it. These Medical Missions travelto places like Haiti, where they helpnearly 1,500 patients in three days. Heperforms minor procedures like remov-ing growths, he gives stitches wherenecessary, and hes even performed anumber of surgeries on a young girlwhose hands were deformed. Her fin-gers were fused, and now she has theuse of three fingers on her hand.

Cheryl explains, These peoplehave absolutely nothing. They drinkdirty water they dont even have run-ning water. We stay at an orphanagewhen we go. It goes back to what youand I take for granted.

    The Landon Outreach Foundation

has reached out locally to the PACECenter for Girls, The Salvation ArmyDomestic Violence Shelter, the RAPHouse (Runaway Alternatives Project),Pasco County Schools needy families,Susan G. Komen Foundation, and theLeukemia & Lymphoma Society andChildrens Cancer Center.

The Landon Outreach Founda-tion and Landon Plastic Surgery go to-gether, and its a way for us to grow.In fact, when patients have surgery atLandon Plastic Surgery, a portion oftheir deposit goes directly to the Foun-dation. Cheryl adds, Its been awe-some because the money just buildsand it funds a lot of what the founda-tion does.

Cheryl Landons heart goes be-yond talking about helping others, andbeyond the occasional wish about mak-ing a difference. She has a gift for see-ing what many of us take for granted. She says, We donate to The SalvationArmys Domestic Violence Shelter, andmany of these women leave in the mid-dle of the night with little more thanwhat is on their backs and very little fortheir children. We bring them soap, shampoo, food, diapers, towels, and allthe necessary things that you and I take

for grantedThey dont have. The Pasco PACE Center for Girls

has called on the Landon OutreachFoundation as well, to help the localgirls in the area reach their greatest po-tential. For the second time in twoyears, The Landon Outreach Founda-tion has successfully put on an etiquetteclass. Cheryl says, We hired an eti-quette coach to come out and we wentto Capital Grille! She continues,They also have a fashion showandwe are always a big sponsor for that aswell. Once, the PACE Center for Girlscalled upon Cheryl and Bruce for non-perishables, so they headed straight toWal-Mart, filled up a cart, and theywere happy to be able to help.

December is a busy time for TheLandon Outreach Foundation. On the11th, they held their 3rd holiday partyfor the Salvation Army Domestic Vio-lence Shelter with Grill 54 on theirpatio! Cheryl says, One of the chil-dren told me, I never thought Id havea Christmas. Grill 54 is very generous, and they provided the food for theadults, and Bruce got Happy Meals(from McDonalds) for the kids! Everyyear we have gifts, Santa comes and weeven set up a candy bar for the kids to

Less than a week later, The Lan-don Outreach Foundation offered its1st Annual Feeding the Hungryevent, where they prepared to feed 650people in need just in time for theholiday. Their Feeding the Hungryevent featured chefs from Grille 54,Zim Zari, and other local restaurants.Together they teamed up to make chili, bread, dessert and to provide hot cocoaand coffee for the homeless. Santa evencame, and they were prepared to handout 350 blankets, as well as gifts for thechildren. Together, with their manyvolunteers, Landon Outreach Founda-

tion demonstrated what the spirit ofgiving was all about.

On the 20th, they will be celebrat-ing the holidays with the ChildrensCancer Center in Tampa. This hugeevent is a lot of fun for families. Cherylsays, There are 400 people who come, both parents and kids. For the kidsthere are arts and crafts and we providetwo large gingerbread houses. Onethey decorate with candy, and the otherthey decorate with arts, crafts and em-bellishments! We have cookie decorat-ing, and Flashes of Hope comes out totake family portraits. They donate theirtime to come and take photos of thekids. For some, its the last portrait thattheyll ever have. Its a sad night, but

its a sweet night. DJ Marvelous Marvin comes

hes fabulous, and the Bucs Cheerlead-ers come, as well as the Bucs. We havegames. Its a great event.

2013 is bound to be a great yearfor The Landon Outreach Foundation, and their first event for the year isgoing to be a great one. The smile is a captivating expres-sion that conveys personality, moodand confidence. Each smile tells astory the happiness of our presentstate, and in some cases, the strugglesof our past. Due to life circumstancesand the mistakes of ones past, manypeoples once dazzling smiles havefaded, leaving behind a mouth full ofunhealthy teeth. At SmileFaith Foun-dation, they believe that no personshould be limited by the condition oftheir smile and strive to help under-privileged individuals and veterans getmuch-needed dental care and regaincontrol of their lives. The SmileFaithFoundation has made my dreamscome true, states patient Rachel. Inow have my self-confidence back, anda beautiful smile. I showed off myteeth as if it were a new car.

Tom and Chrissie Lane, successfulentrepreneurs and caring humanitari-ans, recognized the increasing need ofso many individuals who were suffer-ing from the devastating affects ofpoor oral health. It became clear to

them that many of these same peoplecould also benefit from life coachingand encouragement to help themovercome the struggles which werekeeping them from discovering lifepurpose, financial stability, healthy re-lationships and overall peace of mind. After envisioning a way to help, Tomand Chrissie founded the SmileFaithFoundation, Inc. in 2009, a 501 [c][3] nonprofit foundation that providescharitable dental care, inspiration, andlife resources for the residents of theTampa bay Area and beyond.

The SmileFaith Foundationleadership brings a diverse back-ground, including community service, international aid and relief work, faith-based ministry, counseling, businessdevelopment and management, andentrepreneurship, says ShalandraStephenson, grant organizer at Smile-Faith. We are well-versed in servicingthe dental needs of underserved anddisadvantaged individuals and havealso realized a marked success in pro-viding individual counseling, as well asconnectivity to important communityresources.

The SmileFaith Founda-tion is a unique nonprofit or-ganization committed tocharitable dental care and lifecoach counseling and thanks tothe dedicated efforts of theamazing volunteers and em-ployees, SmileFaith Foundationhas helped over 500 recipientsin the past three and a halfyears.

Theprogram takes a holistic approach tohealing the mind, body and spirit andsupports individuals in their quests forhappiness, self-confidence, andstronger career opportunities. Smile-Faith seeks to build lasting relation-ships with all of their recipients inorder to help them through lifes trialsboth before and after the dental workis complete.

The Smile Again Program pro-vides funding assistance for dentaltreatments, counseling and assess-ments through an individual lifecoaching plan, additional communityresources and connections, and mostimportantly a dazzling new smile!

SmileFaith offers a hand-up nota hand-out, says Tom, as he explainsthat in addition to providing grantsand funding to underprivileged indi-viduals, SmileFaith also helps their pa-tients manage their financial situationand take responsibility for a partialportion of the cost of their dental care.By giving these recipients ownership, they now become invested in theirprogress, which in turn deters themfrom going down the path that ledthem to SmileFaith in the first place.

No one understands the heart andsoul of SmileFaith better than Rose-marie Glade the first ever SmileFaithrecipient and the basis for which theprogram was founded. Before Smile-Faith, Rosemaries smile was deci-mated due to years of bad decisions, and although she was trying to turnher life around, she was reminded ofher past every time she looked in themirror.
