" Blessed are those who have not seen and yet
have believed." (John 20:29)
Those words, spoken to "Doubting"
Thomas on Easter evening, are an encourage-
ment to all of us who have not seen the risen
Jesus with our own eyes either, but who have
been blest with the faith to trust what we've
heard and been taught. If Easter is about any-
thing, it's that we must believe the
'unbelievable'; step out in faith and trust that
God will do for us what was done for Jesus;
even though we can't see it now; even though
it goes against all reason.
Faith is also required of all of us if we
are to effectively proclaim this Easter mes-
sage in our work together as a church. For
example, it took a lot of faith 15 years ago to
make the decision and then to follow through
with the relocation of our church to its present
site. What a miracle that was! Many stepped
out in faith to make over-and-above 'faith
promises', or pledges; and thereafter for a
number of years to fulfill those promises. We
did so, knowing that some sacrifice would be
required (remember the slogan: "Not equal
gifts but equal sacrifice"). Many, I know, re-
sisted the urge of reason to "keep faith in
check - because we never know what the fu-
ture holds!"
An uncertain future continues to loom
before us, and our Lord still calls us to step
out into it in faith. For the past 10 years, siza-
ble monthly mortgage payments (currently
$12,358) have been made toward our $2.1
million building debt. For some time, this
financial burden has limited our ability to add
ministry staff, particularly in the areas of chil-
dren, youth and family life, as well as pastoral
care.
Currently, a subcommittee under our leader-
ship team has been meeting - and will contin-
ue to meet - to address this need.
In the meantime, we all have oppor-
tunity to help with the reduction of our build-
ing loan. Elsewhere in this newsletter you can
read a brief introduction to a program called
"Shared Blessings" available through our Lu-
theran Church Extension Fund (LCEF). As
our 'church's bank' that holds our mortgage,
LCEF is offering this rebate program as a way
to encourage more people to invest in its min-
istry. There are 3 good reasons why you
should consider doing so:
1) an excellent return on your invest-
ment. LCEF has a number of investment op-
tions offering rates substantially higher than
banks. (See the rate sheet on the entryway
kiosk)
2) LCEF provides its funds at reason-
able rates for churches and other ministries of
the LCMS. Your investment dollars do king-
dom building!
3) Trinity will receive an annual in-
terest rebate if it reaches certain levels of in-
vestors. For example, at this time 28 Trinity
members have an investment with LCEF. If
51 more would open a savings account with
as little as $25, we would receive an annual
check of $5,266; if we could get 233 more to
invest, the rebate would be $10,532 annually.
Consider opening an account for your chil-
dren and grandchildren!
I wouldn't call investing with LCEF a
sacrifice; in fact, I've heard "no brainer" spo-
ken in reference to this rebate program. There
are, though, other opportunities to allow our
faith to exercise itself in sacrifice. One such
way is to include Trinity in your will or estate
plan. See the "More Than Enough" article
that follows as an example of such a gift.
Although life is filled with challenges, if we
believe Jesus lives, even though we can't see
Him, we can live boldly for Him. And if we
want others to hear and believe the Easter
message, we can stick out our necks and make
sacrificial giving a priority in our budgets.
Don't take my word for it; take God's! His
promise to provide will never fail. Believe it,
even though you don't see it. You are
"blessed" when you do!

Orphan Grain Train Collection of
New Socks and Undies
All congregations in the Minnesota North District are invited to collect New socks and undies for Orphan Grain Train. These items will be taken to Texas border missions and other places where new items are allowed. All sizes of undies and socks (for men, women, and children) are being collected, but children’s socks (for age 3 to 6th grade) are very much needed, as children in Mexico cannot go to school without socks and shoes. Money to help with shipping costs is also welcome. Monetary donations can be mailed to Orphan Grain Train, PO Box 61, Morris, MN 56267, or brought to the OGT Booth.
Questions? Contact Contact Gene Pasche, Chairman of MN North Branch, Orphan Grain Train, at 320-589-2796.

The Minnesota North Division of Parish Life and Nurture (PLaN) invite all who care about children and ministry to children to come to either of two identical learning events, “More than Sunday School.” The first event will be at St. John in Aitkin on Sunday, May 3. The second event will be at St. Paul in
Perham on Sunday, May 17. Both events will begin at 3:00 p.m. and conclude by 5:30 p.m. and will feature presentations by Paul Berg and Sandy Kephart from Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Fresh and new ideas will be shared as to how to bring children into your church so that they can learn about Jesus. You’ll be given tools that will help your Sunday School or VBS programs to become stronger. So, if you are a Sunday School teacher or Sunday School superintendent, a VBS Director, DCE or Pastor – if you desire to strengthen your congregation’s ministry to children and to their families – you’ll want to attend the event nearest you. The cost per person is $10 payable the day of the event you choose to attend. To register, please call the Minnesota North District office (218-829-1781) by April 30th and indicate you want to register for “More than Sunday School.” You will be glad you did!

Oh Come, Let Us Worship Him!
“For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” Ps. 100:5
God has blessed us with His redeeming love. The month of April has so many opportunities to hear this message
in abundant worship services:
+Maundy Thursday, April 2, 6:00 PM
Jesus teaches humility and servant hood and institutes Holy Communion.
“Having loved His own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.”
+Good Friday, April 3, 6:00 PM
Our Great High Priest, The Lord Himself, offers Himself as the sacrifice.
“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and af-
flicted.”
+Easter Sunday- The Resurrection of our Lord, April 5, 6, 8, and 10:30 AM
Witness with joy the miracle of the resurrection with the Mary Magdalen and Mary the mother of James, and Sa-
lome.
“Alleluia! Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Alleluia!”
+Second Sunday of Easter, April 12, 8 and 10:30 AM
The Risen Lord appears to the disciples and commissions them and we learn about the blessings of believing
without seeing.
“Alleluia! We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over
Him. Alleluia! Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Alleluia!”
+Third Sunday of Easter, April 19, 8 and 10:30 AM
The Risen Lord again appears to His disciples and opens their minds to understand the Scriptures.
“Alleluia! We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over
Him. Alleluia! Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened the Scriptures
to us? Alleluia!”
+Fourth Sunday of Easter, April 26, 8 and 10:30 AM
Our Lord reveals Himself as the Good Shepherd and watches over every one of us, even when we stray.
“Alleluia! We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over
Him. Alleluia! I am the Good Shepherd, I know my own and my own know me. Alleluia!”
The Lessons in the progression from Holy Thursday through the Sundays of Easter in our worship services
demonstrate over and over again the message of redemption through God’s grace and love. Watch for these
truths in your hymns and worship songs as well. Plan to attend and participate in these gifts of worship. Be an
example to your family and others. His faithfulness continues through all generations.
God bless your worship!

Planned Giving Stories for Christian Stewards
Thomas was a widower who had a great love for his
church. As an individual who had directly benefited
from its ministry, he wanted to say 'thank you' with a gift
from his estate. He told his attorney that he wished to
make a bequest to the church. Thomas' estate included
some stocks, real estate and an IRA. Thomas' attorney
recommended that he give the appreciated stock and real
estate to his children and leave his IRA to the church.
Thomas: My attorney told me that if I gave
the stock and real estate to my children, these
assets would receive a step-up in basis at my
death. My children could then sell them without
paying tax. However, if I gave my children my
IRA, the IRA would be subject to estate and in-
come tax. After paying all of these taxes, very
little would be left for my family. By giving the
IRA to the church, I could make a nice gift and
avoid any additional tax for my estate and
children.
Thomas received a beneficiary designation form, filled it
out and designated his church as the 100% recipient of
his IRA account. Thomas' attorney then specified in
Thomas' will the bequest of his other assets to his chil-
dren.
Thomas notified the church of his bequest. He was
pleased that since the church was a tax exempt institu-
tion, it would receive the full amount of the IRA value
when he passed away, creating a legacy for the future.

"Fear not, daughter of Zion”
“And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, ‘Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!’” -- John 12:14-15 (ESV)
What do you fear? As a parent, my fears often pertain to my children. Will they hold fast to their Christian faith throughout their lives? Will they marry faithful Christian spouses? Will they live in a world where they have to suffer for being a Christian? Maybe your fears are global: persecution…war…disaster. Often times our fears are
closer to home: finances…health… family troubles. There is no shortage of things that fill us with uncertainty and anxiety over the future.
Israel had its share of fears. There was political uncertainty and the threat of enemies on every side. There was
fear that because of their sins of unfaithfulness and idolatry that God would abandon them. When St. John records the event of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he quotes the prophet Zechariah (9:9). But St. John the
Evangelist—inspired by the Holy Spirit—takes some liberty with Zechariah’s words. Zechariah writes, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion.” But John begins this fulfillment with the words “Fear not.” John uses the event of Jesus riding into Jerusalem to specifically comfort the people of God. Jesus is the one who comes to fulfill the
promises made in the prophets. And one of the ways he will do that is by casting away the fears of the people.
Why should Israel not fear? Their King was coming to them. He was coming to them riding upon a donkey…a re-minder of the days of King David. Jesus was and is the Greater David. He is the One who comes to bring peace. He is the One who comes to bring victory over all enemies. He is the One who fulfills the promise that God would nev-
er leave his people.
Palm Sunday…Holy Week…Easter…all of them serve to remind us: “Fear not.” Our Lord Jesus Christ rode into Jeru-salem to a truly fearful place. He went to a cross where he was abandoned by his Father. He went to a cross
where he bore all sin, evil, death, and every source of fear upon his own body. He rose victorious and left fear be-hind in the grave. We fear not because Jesus died and because Jesus lives. What Jesus has given us in his death and resurrection is something that no one or no thing can ever take away. We have life. We have life that never
ends. We have a life that will be free of fear for all eternity.
God grant that this Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter that you would be freed from fear. May you, O Daughter of Zion, have no fear. Our King rides on in majesty to bury fear in a tomb.
