11-12 Board of Trustees Report

Mr. Scott Cufr - Board Chair

What a privilege it is to serve the Trinity Oaks community! The school board has enjoyed another great year watching God continue to bless our school. Every month, the board comes together to meet and pray for what God has done for our school. Prayer is the most important aspect of our meeting. We devote 25% of our meeting time for reading His Word and prayer. God has definitely been at work at Trinity Oaks this past year. We are excited to share how He has helped drive our strategic goals forward, so that Trinity Oaks will become the premier Christ-centered preschool through 12th-grade Christian academy in McHenry County! In 2009, the Board of Trustees established seven initiatives to provide the necessary focus and direction of the school for the subsequent nine years. These initiatives are aligned with the mission of the school, and are not independent of one another. We are excited to share some of the successes Trinity Oaks has realized in these initiatives during the 2011-12 school year.

Seven Initiatives Seven Initiatives

Self-sufficiency

The school has not yet reached our goal of self-sufficiency. It has been a historical struggle; however, the last

three years have seen consistent improvement in our budget and bottom line at the end of each school year.

We remain dependent on our annual giving to help drive to a balanced budget, as our annual tuition does not

cover the cost to educate a child over the course of the school year. Self-sufficiency will remain a focus for

the board in the 2012-13 school year. This will help drive and develop a stable foundation for the school for

years to come.

Permanence

The 2011-12 school year was an exciting year of waiting to see what God was going to do for our location for

the 2012-13 school year. Our second lease on the Oak Knoll property was up; the board knew God had a plan

for our next location, but we did not know what it was throughout the first half of the year. We investigated

other options and prayed for God to move. In January 2012, the District 26 School Board notified us there

would be some properties becoming available that we may be interested in renting. This brought an excitement

to the board and left us wondering how God was going to make this a reality, as we did not have the financial

resources to purchase a facility at this time. In March, we received some details on the Prairie Hill Junior High

building, and the district wanted to know if we were interested in it. After reviewing the building plans, tour-

ing the school, and praying, it was impressed upon

our hearts that this was the building God had for

Trinity Oaks. We entered into negotiations with the

district, and God moved in their hearts to help struc-

ture a ten-year lease with an option to buy the prop-

erty upon completion of the lease. What an answer

to prayer! We had no idea we would have such an

amazing facility as our permanent home.

High School Launch

It has been a long-time vision of the school to launch a high school. Many

current school families and new applying families want to see their teens

continue a Christ-centered education once they graduate from junior high.

With much prayer and strong vision from Dr. Wrobbel, the fall of 2012

was the target to launch a high school for Trinity Oaks Christian Acade-

my. Several informational meetings were held throughout the school

year and the interest built in the community to see the high school become

a reality. We were excited to have five students register for high school

for the Fall of 2012! That was the minimum number needed to establish

the high school, and for the program to be profitable for the school’s

budget. These five students are a great blessing and are the pioneers of

our high school program. With all classes being fully staffed by Christian

teachers, it is truly an elite program that will launch our high school grad-

uates successfully into their college years.

Accreditation

Accreditation has been a desire for the school to es-

tablish for many years. The foundational work has

been in progress for a long time, but over the past

few years, the focus has been to finalize the base of

what is required to apply for accreditation. The staff

and Dr. Wrobbel have actively been involved in

completing our curriculum guides, which are neces-

sary for accreditation. The school had our pre-

candidacy visit from ACSI in May of 2012. The

auditor was extremely impressed with his visit and

stated that Trinity Oaks Christian Academy is ready

to start the process for accreditation. This is a very exciting development for the school and community, as

accreditation is a big deal! It validates the school as a high quality educational institution and will allow us

to apply for grants and other benefits we cannot realize until we are accredited.

NILD Regional Center

The school’s NILD program has continued to

grow and attract new families to Trinity Oaks.

The three therapists currently on staff continue to

partner with students, parents, and teachers to cre-

ate competent, confident, and independent learn-

ers. The therapist becomes the student’s advocate

and implements strategies to guide the student to-

ward successful learning. This partnership makes

the educational program at Trinity Oaks effective

for NILD students and provides additional learn-

ing strategies to help students thrive. Our thera-

pists continue to get additional training at the national level in the NILD program.

Summer Program

The summer program has been a huge success at Trinity Oaks over the past few years. This year, the pro-

gram was put on hold as the school planned, packed, and prepared for the huge move into our new building.

The program will be reengaged in the summer of 2013 with additional excitement as we are able to enjoy

the larger building and have additional offerings for our students and the surrounding community.

Distinctive Programs

The distinctive programs at Trinity Oaks

(music, art, foreign language, etc.) have contin-

ued to grow and develop over the past five

years. The presence of SMART Boards in all

classrooms grades 3-8, and the rounded pro-

grams we offer our students remain a distinc-

tive at Trinity Oaks. The high school imple-

mented laptops for all students this fall, as

some of the books and supplemental materials

are only available on-line for our students. The

distinctive programs at Trinity Oaks are stable,

but will not be further enhanced until we have

the funding to do so.

2011-12 was an exciting year at Trinity Oaks Christian Academy! God’s hand has been on the school for the

past 21 years, and I look forward to what He is going to do in the coming 2012-13 school year in our new fa-

cility. Thank you for entrusting your children to Trinity Oaks Christian Academy. We remain committed to

equipping future generations with wisdom, knowledge and character to impact their world for Christ, with

servants’ hearts.

11-12 Head of School Report

Dr. Paul Wrobbel

Warmest greetings to parents, grandparents, and other supporters of Trinity Oaks Christian Academy. We are privileged to partner with you in equipping children to know, love, and serve Jesus. You hear us use that phrase often—that our relation-ship with parents is a “partnership.” We believe that when you entrust your chil-dren to us to share in the task of fulfilling God’s command to teach the next gener-ation to love and honor Him, we become partners.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the

doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:5-9

This directive is all about consistency…of children hearing Truth at school that aligns with what they learn in the home. By choosing to invest in a Christ-centered education for your children and/or grandchildren, you are ensuring that they are not confused by conflicting messages but instead building a firm foundation for a life-long faith.

What a great foundation for our faith was found in our year verse, Joshua 1:8-9. The study of this verse has provided a great reminder to study, memorize and meditate on God’s Word. As we do this, we come to understand more about the creator and sustainer of the universe, to acknowledge our de-pendence upon Him, and realize that He gives us the courage to face whatever comes our way. This was a wonderful prom-ise to cling to as we looked ahead to securing a permanent home for Trinity Oaks, and expand our presence in this com-munity by offering a Christian high school.

The 2011-2012 school year was a year of growth and change for Trinity Oaks Christian Academy. We began the school year with five new teachers, and an en-rollment of 203 students (including 37 new students & 22 new families).

Page 8: Trinity Oaks Christian Academy Annual Report

The 2011-12 school year brought many changes in our resources including: the purchase of new Spanish textbooks (2nd-6th grades); upgrading computers to MicroSoft Office Pro Plus & Windows 7; adding a

SMART Board to the third-grade classroom; and re-

vising RenWeb to offer on-line giving, applications, and enrollment/re-enrollment options. Our NILD (National Institute of Learning Development) pro-gram continued to grow and expand. Our staff began to implement Common Core Standards for language arts and math. Additionally, we made the change, along with most ACSI schools, to Terra Nova 3 achievement testing. Once again, our achievement scores are up!

Trinity Oaks students and families stayed busy with many co-curricular activities. Summer sports camps included boys’ and girls’ basketball, as well as girls’ volleyball. The girls’ volleyball team finished 2nd in the ACSI Tournament; boys’ and girls’ basketball

took 3rd in their respective ACSI Tournaments; our cross country run-

ners finished well and improved on their times; and the cheerleaders en-

couraged our teams.

The cultivation of our students’ gifts and talents continued to be a major emphasis at Trinity Oaks. We began a string orchestra, under the direction of Miss Kira Depa. Students participated in the ACSI Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Math Olympics, and an in-house Speech Meet. Students also participat-ed in the IJAS (Illinois Junior Acade-my of Science) Science Fair, with two

students qualifying to compete at the state lev-el. We are also very proud that one of our stu-dents won best in class at the state science fair. Miss Anderson (now Mrs. Junge) worked dili-gently to teach, mentor, and encourage these young scientists.

Along with accolades came many joys and challeng-es. By spring, it became evident that God had pro-vided a permanent home for Trinity Oaks Christian Academy! We offered a “Sneak Peek” to families in May, and took classroom fieldtrips to see the new facility. There was a “buzz” of excitement through-out the TOCA community about the coming move and new home. Five “trail blazers” stepped up, with God’s leading, to become our pioneering freshman class for our new high school program. Our greatest challenge continues to be increasing our enrollment. The economy continues to have an adverse effect on our community and our enrollment.

One of our major focuses last year was the pursuit of candidacy status for accreditation with the Associa-tion of Christian Schools International. ACSI ac-creditation is recognized at the national level as well as by many regional and state accrediting agencies and provides a comprehensive model for Christian schools. Much progress has been made in the past year as our faculty examines and documents our aca-demic programs. On the administration side, poli-cies, procedures, and documentation are also being scrutinized and updated to ensure that they conform to current standards while at the same time being consistent with God’s Word. This past spring we were granted candidacy status with ACSI, which

puts us on track to attain accreditation by June 2014. We have already begun to realize some of the benefits that come from the intense self-study and analysis that are a part of this process. By comparing our program to established standards, assessing our mission and commitment to quality education, and making our-selves accountable to our peers in education, we con-tinue to reach toward the goal of excellence in educa-tion. The teachers are to be commended for their hard work in the area of curriculum documentation, which is above and beyond their normal classroom responsi-bilities.

The learning environment at Trinity Oaks is greatly enhanced by the presence of so many parents on a day-to-day basis. Whether it’s hearing children recite memory verses, planning and managing classroom celebrations, chaperoning field trips, serving in the lunchroom, or stuffing envelopes to assist office staff, the contribution of school parents continuously blesses and encourages the children, faculty and staff of the school. We are thank-ful for the wonderful support of H.O.P.E. which spearheads most of these volunteer efforts.

Of course, no ministry will succeed without an undergirding of prayer. From parents who come together to pray at the school, to those who pray faithfully in their prayer closets, prayers, petitions, and praises are lifted regularly to our Lord.

What a tremendous privilege and awesome responsibility it is to partner with you in training and nurturing these precious young people. We covet your prayers for the ministry that takes place every day at Trinity Oaks. We have been reminded numerous times this year that our trust is in the Lord and we would conclude with this thought:

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!

We go not forth alone against the foe;

Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,

We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

(Husky Organization of Parents and Educators)

“Under His direction, the whole body is fitted together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Ephesians 4:16

The purpose of H.O.P.E. is to serve the school com-munity by building a closer relationship between par-ents, families and educators, for the benefit of stu-dents, through a Christ-centered environment. H.O.P.E. sponsors a variety of activities to enhance and support the education of the children attending Trinity Oaks Christian Academy. All school parents and personnel are encouraged to participate in H.O.P.E. activities. There are 23 different commit-tees, each requiring its own leadership and parent vol-unteers, while the H.O.P.E. Board oversees and as-sists the activities of each of these committees. We invite you to become involved with H.O.P.E. Our volunteers serve in many ways using their time, tal-ents, and passion throughout the year.

The social events held throughout the year include the Back to School and End of Year Picnics, First Day of School Welcome Coffee, Pizza & Family Game Night, Monkey Joe’s Playdates and Winter Carnival. Stade Farm Family Fall Festival— a fa-vorite of our school body – is enjoyed by more than 200 people in attendance, year after year. Grandpar-ents’ Day is a celebration of family and special friends in our childrens’ lives. It is a much anticipat-ed event every year!

We address the spiritual needs of our school body through the H.O.P.E. prayer team which meets each

Wednesday morning. Many parents, grandparents and faculty gather week after week lifting the needs of our families and school to the Lord.

Our various service groups include workshop facilitators to encourage Biblical principles in Christian living, families who bless faculty and staff weekly with food and drink, mentor families who come alongside new families helping them as-similate into our culture, Tyvek team, volunteers who assist with the annual TOCA Science Fair and other ACSI district events, room parents, library helpers, volunteers who head up teacher appreciation events in May, and the annual Faculty/ Staff Christmas Luncheon team.

(Husky Organization of Parents and Educators)

H.O.P.E.’s Fundraising efforts provide financial support for all of our activities, as well as for additional needs of TOCA. We host monthly Dine & Share events at local restaurants, providing fellowship time along with fundraising. Additionally, we raise money through TRIP, Box Tops, Campbell’s Soup labels and Market Day. Our biggest event every year is the all-school Race for Education, held in May. It is a great time for everyone to get involved and support TOCA!

We at H.O.P.E., count it an honor and a blessing to serve our Lord by serving Trinity Oaks families. The Board is grateful for all the volunteers who give so selflessly throughout the year.
