A Word from Pastor Phil
Trinity Church:
A Community of Truth,
Love and Faith
Dear Church Family,
As October approaches, I fondly remember dressing
up and trick or treating when I was a kid. One year I
dressed up as David, the shepherd boy, and my young-
er (but much bigger!) brother was Goliath.
Let me state that I am not in favor of some costumes
like witches, or devils, or bloody creatures—but using
your imagination is a God given gift. Besides, getting
candy is just plain fun!
I always thought it would be fun to have been a knight
helping the helpless, fighting a dragon, and rescuing the
princess. Deb and I have been known to go to a Re-
naissance Fair every once in a while.
In Ephesians 6:10-13, Paul tells us, “Finally, be strong
in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full
armor of God, so that you can take your stand against
the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh
and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. There-
fore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day
of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”
As Christians, we need to stand up to our enemies: the
devil, sin and oppression.
The things we need to stand up for are our beliefs in
Jesus Christ as God’s only Son and our principals like
Faith, Truth and Love.
One last thing:
Parents, please bring your kids by the parsonage to
trick or treat. The light will be on, and the candy will
be ready!
Pass it on,
Pastor Phil
Scripture of the Month: Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in
place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this,
take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the
helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 2:14-17 (NIV)

Stone Soup Food Pantry
September was another busy month for the SSFP. We served 15 families, with a total of 31 people
(counting the family members not in the pantry) we helped this month. The churches in Mulberry
are doing God’s work!
After the food pantry has been open for the month, the Board members look through the pantry to
see what is needed and then divide up some of the items to ask each church to donate.
The SSFP Board is asking the Trinity Church family for the following items:
Sugar (any size bag)
Homestyle Bakes (complete meal in one box—includes meat)
We will collect these items until October 19th.
Thank you so much for your continued support of the Stone Soup Food Pantry.
God bless each and every one of you!

Our new church website is live!

Operation Christmas Child
Give a child a Christmas to remember!
We are collecting shoeboxes until November 16th,
when we will have a Shoebox Dedication moment
during the service.
You can bring your shoe-
boxes to the church any-
time.
Financial Peace University
The class will be on Sunday afternoons from 4-6pm.
We will have class on October 5th, 12th, and 26th. There will not be class on October 19th.
That is the evening of our Bonfire!
There will be childcare available!
There is no cost! Please bring a binder for your papers.
Pregnancy Resource Center Fundraiser
Don’t forget your baby bottle! Make sure to pick
one up and help the Resource Center.
The baby bottles need to be brought back to the
church no later than November 2nd.
Thanks for helping those who need it!

Thought for the Month:
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see
it, but because by it I see everything else.

Trinity Women’s Guild Meeting
September 10, 2014
The Women’s Guild met at Debie Brooks’ home on September 10th. There were fourteen ladies present: Marga-ret Beaver, Paula Bennett, Debie Brooks, Dennise Brucken, Wilhelmina Burket, Catharine Cassady, Anna Mae Krammes,
Carol Neal, Lois Rex, Mae Roark, Sue Skiver, Carol Smith, Margie Stein, and Deb Whisler.
President Margie Stein opened the meeting with two readings: “A Retiree’s Message” and a devotion, “Stubborn Sometimes.”
Correspondence: We received a thanks from New Hope Church for our participation in the Backpack program. Carol Neal reported that 10 families are using the program this year. She has purchased cans of chicken already and is
looking at some kind of cheese for the backpacks. Secretary’s Report: Deb read the minutes for April and May. They were accepted as read.
Old Business: There were no old business items to discuss.
New Business: Community Fish Fry: Trinity has been asked to supply desserts for the fish fry on Saturday, September 13th.
Carol Neal asked for pies and sheet cakes and asked that donations be delivered to the church by 3pm. Guest Night: Guest Night is our next meeting, October 16th at 6:30pm.
Shoebox Program: Margie is preparing for this year’s Operation Christmas Child.
Pregnancy Resource Center: It was decided that we would collect change for the Center with their baby bottle program.
Freezer: Joan Burns’ standing freezer was donated to the church by her family. The chest freezer was moved out and the new freezer was put in its place.
MHRC: Carol suggested that we purchase items to put in a basket and distribute at MHRC to residents who are church family and residents who don’t have visitors. We would do this once a month. Debie Brooks made a motion that
we do this project, Sue Skiver seconded, and motion carried.
Meals: Deb asked that the church supply four meals to Bernie and Louise Newhart while Louise is recovering from cataract surgeries. For September 23rd and 24th, we will take them chicken and noodles from the Community Club
meal on the 22nd and the Cook’s Night Off meal and the 24th. Carol Neal and Carol Smith will supply a meal for the 30th, and Dennise Brucken and Debie Brooks will supply the meal for October 1st.
Friendship Garden: Paula would like to put together gift bags for the residents of Friendship Garden for Christ-
mas. She will use money from Cook’s Night Off for the project and if more money is necessary the Guild can help. De-bie Brooks made the motion for this and Carol Smith seconded. The motion passed.
Pastor Appreciation Month: October is Pastor Appreciation Month. We were asked to send Pastor Phil a card. The Goodwill Class will buy a cake for Social Time.
Impact Program at Abba’s Place: We received a fundraising letter from the Impact program. Carol Neal made a
motion. Debie Brooks seconded. The motion passed. Social Time: The schedule for Social Time will be changing in January. Deb Whisler will be making a schedule
that includes the whole church instead of the LOVE class and the Goodwill Class. Whoever is on the list to bring treats for the month will be responsible for clean up.
Christmas Meeting: The Christmas meeting is tentatively scheduled for December 10th at 6:30pm at Carol Neal’s home.
Program: Paula Bennett presented the program for the evening. “Insider’s Look at Local Government” from her
perspective as Town Clerk. Many topics were discussed, including where tax money goes and costs of running the town utilities.
The hostesses, Debie Brooks, Paula Bennett, and Carol Smith, served a delicious snack of pumpkin sheet cake and pumpkin dip with apples and pears. Thank you, ladies, for a lovely evening!
Respectfully submitted,
Deb Whisler
