Particularly impressive to them was the way the students and staff articulated so positively how they are enjoying their new learning spaces and the benefits that accompany them. During the course of the tour a couple of the teachers asked how many nationalities are represented at Trinity as they observed our multi-cultural student body. Currently there is in excess of forty nationalities within the school. It led me to think about the great example children can set for adults and what a special group of students we have here at Trinity. Every day we have forty nationalities co-existing within the school without a hiccup or concern. The students look beyond the exterior and focus on the person within, appreciating each others talents and gifts. The country another person originates from is not a concern to them at all. What a great model they are! Last Friday we gathered together as a community to acknowledge and remember the fallen Soldiers who sacrificed their lives so that we may live and enjoy the benefits of a free and just society. The manner in which the students demonstrated their respect during the Remembrance day assembly is highly commendable and I thank Kathryn Pepper, Suzanne Zammit and staff for the organisation of this significant yet solemn event. Advent – a time of anticipation and preparation Advent is a time of prayer and preparation towards the coming of Christ. Normally, many people have an advent calendar to show how many days till Christmas. Children nearly always have chocolate in their advent calendar, but this is not the true meaning of Advent. Advent prepares you for the birth of Christ and comes from the Latin word meaning “coming.” Jesus is coming, and Advent is intended to be a season of preparation for His arrival. While we typically regard Advent as a joyous season, it is also intended to be a period of preparation, much like Lent. People around the world get ready to celebrate Christ’s birth with the focus on reaching out to others in need. The season of Advent officially begins on Sunday 27th November and lasts for 4 weeks. As we only have 5 weeks left of school we w ill begin our Advent focus this week. Each week the students will explore the Sunday Gospel and their morning prayer will focus on lighting the Advent candles of HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE. It will be a time for them to reflect on how they can prepare for the birth of Jesus and what they can do to reach out to those in need.

First Week of Advent Scripture Reference: Mt 24:37-44 Focus: HOPE In the Gospel Jesus reminds us how important it is to be prepared for his return at an unexpected time and date, if we are to avoid being taken by surprise. We should always be ready! Today we light the first purple candle, the HOPE candle. The Candle of Hope is also referred to the Prophecy Candle. We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises made to us. Our hope comes from God. Mary trusted God. He sent the Angel Gabriel to tell Mary that she was to have God’s son and she willingly accepted.

Trinity Christmas Outreach At Trinity we have teamed up with St Vincent de Paul to assist them in their Christmas Outreach Project. Christmas is a very special and exciting time for families, but it can also be a very stressful time, especially for those experiencing financial hardship or illness. To help ease this pain, St Vincent de Paul are hoping to provide many families within our local community with a hamper filled with Christmas food and appropriate gifts. This is where our students can help. For two weeks from the 28th November – 9th December a Christmas tree w ill be placed in the office area. We are asking families to generously donate non-perishable items of Christmas food during this time and kindly place it around the tree. There will also be a Christmas box where donations and loose change can be placed in order to assist with the purchasing of age appropriate gifts. If you are able to assist us in reaching out to those in need we would greatly appreciate your support.

OLHC Parish Christmas Carols

Saturday 10th December @ 7:30 at Don Bosco Primary School

Last week a letter was sent home inviting students to represent Trinity at the Parish Christmas Carols. Each year the 3 Catholic Schools sing a couple of songs each, acknowledging the important partnership between the parish, school and family. If you would like to be a part of the Christmas Carols, could you please return the form by next Monday 21st November so we can get the students together to practice the songs. If you require another form, a copy has been included at the end of the newsletter.

If you have any questions about anything mentioned in today’s newsletter, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards Kathryn Pepper – Religious Education Leader / Student Support

Trinity has zero tolerance towards child abuse and is therefore committed to complying with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order 870. All parents/Guardians wishing to help in the classroom, canteen or attend excursions MUST have completed the PARENT HELPER WORKSHOP and hold a current WORKING WITH CHILDREN CARD.

Further details are available from the school office. All parent/guardian helpers must sign in at the office before proceeding to the classrooms. Your current Working with Children card must be displayed at all times when working in the classrooms and attending excursions.

A reminder to all Parents/Carers, supervision by School Staff begins at 8.30am before school and after school only at the drop

off area until 3.30pm.

Thank you for your co-operation

TRINITY CAR PARK ETIQUETTE For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all

drivers reverse park into the marked bays.

Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.

The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.

The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. I f your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.

There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.

THE GATES CLOSE AT 9.00am AND RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. Occasionally they might re-open slightly later due to school activities.

Thank you for your patience and consideration of others.

PASTORAL CARE NEWSLETTER 16th NOVEMBER 2016

WE PRAY FOR: Those who are having treatment or tests of any kind; those women who are expecting babies; our Refugees who are awaiting a home; those senior students who are sitting exams; the Builders who are working on our school refurbishments.

SECOND-HAND UNIFORMS: Thank you to those Families who continue to pass in pieces which are clean and in good condition.

MYUNA FARM: Children and families participating in playgroups in the City of Casey are invited to join in the fun with other playgroup families at Myuna Farm 182 Kidds Rd Doveton, on Tuesday 6th December from 4-7pm.

TRINITY COOK BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE OFFICE OR MYSELF FOR $5.00 A COPY. They would make a great Christmas present as they only include “family friendly” recipes submitted by the then families in our school in 2012 which was when the school became a “teenager”!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT TABLE Please come and have a look at our Christmas craft table which is in the office foyer, we have “crafted” some very lovely presents for you to buy at very reasonable prices.

PLAYGROUP is held each Wednesday from 9 -10.30am (at present in the before/after school care room). There MAY BE a few vacancies for next year depending on the days allotted to those children who will be attending kindergarten in 2017. I have a few Families who are on a waiting list for next year and they will be accepted first. BUT IF YOU ARE THINKING OF COMING ALONG TO PLAYGROUP NEXT YEAR, please let me know so I can add you to the waiting list. The yearly membership is $10.00 (which covers a Birthday and Christmas present) and $3.00 per week which covers the cost of the art materials and goes towards our end of the year outing.

MEDIA STATEMENT from Bishop Long. I received this last week and it is included elsewhere in our newsletter as it was not in our Parish bulletin. It is good that we people in the pews hear the statements that are made officially from the Bishops. Bishop Long is himself a refugee who came by boat to Australia from Vietnam.

A WORD FROM POPE FRANCIS: Our calling as Christians would not be full if it excluded our mud, our falls, our failures, our daily struggles; in fragility, the life of Christ shows itself and becomes a saving proclamation. As disciples, we are promised the Spirit of Truth who will teach us all things, and who will lead us to the fullness of truth. (A year with Pope Francis on the Family. Pp.344-345)
