Our Courses & PathwaysWe have an extensive curriculum offering a variety of academic and vocational qualifications to meet the needs of students with a wide range of abilities and interests.

With a diverse range of A-Level and BTEC courses to choose from, making the right decision can require a lot of thought. We offer personalised advice and the opportunity to learn more about our courses at our Open Evening, Taster Sessions, Introductory Days and Induction.

We want to ensure students undertake courses which reflect their unique talents and abilities and equip them with the knowledge and skills to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Our Range of Courses from September 2019A diverse range of A-Level and vocational BTEC courses to choose from:-

Fine Art and French - If these subjects do not recruit enough students they will not run in September 2019. On completion of enrolment, it will be decided whether to offer courses with only a small number of students. Students are strongly advised to research one or two ‘reserve subjects’.

A-Levels and Level 3 BTECs require a high level of prior knowledge and skills, as demonstrated through GCSE results. As a result, we advertise clear entry requirements for each course. Students who narrowly miss entry requirements will be considered on an individual basis.

Settling into Life at Trinity Catholic College Sixth FormWe set challenging targets and have high expectations for all our students. To help students meet these challenges, we provide an effective support network to help students settle into the Sixth Form and make good academic progress.

Our experience is that students settle in smoothly largely helped by our thoughtfully developed Induction Programme.

We encourage students and their parents/carers to discuss any issues or concerns early to enable us to offer an individual programme of support.

Pastoral CareOur dedicated Sixth Form team including Directors, Pastoral Leaders, Tutors, Student Councillor and a Careers Advisory Team are always available to offer help and support.

At the heart of the Sixth Form is our chaplaincy which provides the spiritual and moral focus of college life with support for all students regardless of their affiliation.

The Sixth Form takes great care to ensure that all students are valued and treated with respect. We get to know our students as individuals and ensure they are supported and know to ask for help if they have any concerns.

Our students work hard to achieve their fantastic academic results, but we also believe that students should have the opportunity to have fun, learn new skills and develop as individuals.

They will find themselves enjoying a range of different courses and experience many extra-curricular activities and events.

Student BodyThe Sixth Form has its own student body which is democratically appointed to ensure all students have their voices heard. The body is led by an elected President and Vice President.

It is an excellent opportunity for students to develop individuality and experience working in a team.

Pastoral ProgrammeOur Pastoral Programme covers a wide range of topics and activities, from developing research and presentation skills to charity fund-raising and social team building activities. UCAS application is a key part of this programme.

Enrichment OpportunitiesIndividual departments offer many enrichment opportunities including residential trips at home and abroad, and schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Community Sports Leadership Award.

Students take part in a variety of fundraising activities throughout the course of the year including CAUSE, CAFOD and the chosen annual Lenten charity.

Chaplaincy GroupAll students have the opportunity to join the student Chaplaincy Group. They will work alongside the chaplain in arranging college liturgies and fund raising events. This group will also be involved in the annual pilgrimages to Lourdes, Rome and the opportunity to visit Christian communities in Palestine.

Sporting SuccessOur sporting teams and individual students enjoy regular success in sports from local to national level. Students represent the Sixth Form in boys and girls football teams as well as netball, hockey, rugby, cricket, athletics and cross country running. Our students are often selected for town and county teams, and several have made a career in their chosen sport. After school coaching is provided to develop individual interests and skills, as well as supporting the development of the Sixth Form teams.

Extra–curricular ActivitiesThe Sixth Form provides an education enhanced by our wide and varied range of extra-curricular activities which suit all interests and abilities. Our proactive staff regularly organise trips and visits which further enrich our curriculum. Throughout each academic year, the Sixth Form sees students making theatre visits, outdoor activity courses and trips abroad.

Lunch and after college clubs provide an opportunity for our students to learn and practice new skills, as well as enjoying working as a team.

Students also have fully supervised access to our Learning Resource Centre and ICT facilities.

An inclusive learning community living out gospel values

A Catholic CommunityTrinity Catholic College Sixth Form is ‘an inclusive, learning community living out Gospel values’. We pride ourselves on the quality of our care and the ethos we develop as we help young people continue on their spiritual journey to adulthood.

Religious Education A systematic programme of Religious Education is at the heart of the curriculum.

• We allow students to engage with the Catholic faith and deepen their own religious and theological understanding.

• We promote the human person, equipping students to live life to the full.

• Students examine contemporary issues in the light of Christian principles; to supply a response to some of the social and spiritual problems of today and encourage a well-informed commitment to specific moral teaching.

• We develop responsible citizens who show empathy and understanding and make a positive contribution to society.

Chapel The Sixth Form has a Chapel which provides a prayerful space for worship and a place for contemplation and peace for students and staff. Holy Mass is offered here on the first Friday of each month in term time at 8.00am. Families are welcome to attend. The Sixth Form and Chapel were solemnly blessed and dedicated in July 2012 by The Rt. Revd. T.P. Drainey, Bishop of Middlesbrough.

Pilgrimages and Retreats Pilgrimage is central to our life of Catholic faith. Each year, students have various opportunities to take part in pilgrimages to nearby shrines like Our Lady of Mount Grace (Osmotherly), St Cuthbert & Venerable Bede (Durham) and to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

Pilgrimages further afield go to the Eternal City of Rome and to Our Lady of Lourdes on the Middlesbrough Diocesan Pilgrimage. There are opportunities throughout a student’s time at the Sixth Form to take part in days of recollection, residential retreats and annual Faith Walks witnessing to our Catholic faith.

The Sacraments in SchoolEach half term, students take part in planning and celebrating Holy Mass. On occasions, Holy Mass is celebrated where parents/carers are also invited to join their children. Priests and deacons from our local parishes join us for these celebrations. During each term, the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is available for students and staff usually in Advent, Lent and Trinitytide.

Higher EducationOur students have successfully moved on to study a wide range of courses at a variety of universities. To support you on your journey we offer a structured programme for students applying to university, from guidance through the UCAS application process, student finance, university talks, visits and residential summer schools.

We have excellent links with the local universities, Teesside, Newcastle, Durham and Northumbria, and our Sixth Form is a partner school for a variety of supported progression schemes. We also offer dedicated advice and support for students considering Medicine and Oxbridge including residential visits, student shadowing, e-mentoring and mock interviews.

The majority of our students will go on to study undergraduate courses at a variety of universities.

EmploymentUniversity is not for everyone, which is why the Sixth Form has a dedicated Careers Advisor who can give advice on apprenticeships and employment opportunities. Support is also available with writing CV’s, letters of application and preparation for interviews.

In today’s challenging economic climate we aim to equip our students with the confidence and skills to be competitive in the employment market.

Many of our students gain entry to apprenticeshipschemes leading to successful and rewarding careers.
