A Message from the Deputy Head Teacher

Welcome to your Sixth-Form!

An exciting programme has been developed for you to grow ,not only your academic aspirations ,but also your Christian faith.

Over the next two years, you will be offered many varied opportunities through our curriculum to maximise your educational development, to build your experience and inspire you to follow God, cherish His Word and excel in all that you do.

Some choices are optional and you can decide to be as proactive as you want to be (and take part!). We are looking forward to seeing you mature as a follower of Christ and a leader for the younger generations.

The teachers are very conscious of the unique learning environment at Trinity School and we hope you will want to join as a student and benefit fully from your time here.

May God bless you and guide you through your choices and aspirations for your future!

The Sixth Form at Trinity School allows

you to investigate further your academic

potential. Being a smaller school than

most, there is a greater teacher to stu-

dent ratio. This means teachers are able

to pay greater attention to helping each

student fulfil their potential. Also, year

group sizes are smaller which means

there are few people in the senior

school that you don’t know well.

Becoming a Sixth Form student places

more responsibility on each member.

The Sixth Form is often called upon to

lead the lower school. This is especially

evident as members of the Sixth Form

become House Captains. The older

students are encouraged to lead the

younger members of the school during

the yearly School Camp where

students from years 3 to 13 go camping

for a week. This develops our

leadership skills as we are required to

look after younger pupils. However,

this increased responsibility also

comes with increased privileges. The

Sixth Form have access to a common

room and personal study areas for

outside of lessons and we are also

allowed to make hot drinks during

break times.

There is a great sense of community among

students and parents in Trinity School and

this is reinforced during the termly Educa-

tion Sundays at Trinity Church where the

whole school body gathers for fellowship.

There are also a lot of club and

sporting opportunities for the Sixth

Form at Trinity School. Basketball

and dance are among some of the

most popular ones. We are able to

make use of our large rural site

during some of these, for example

the photography club. Many of our

activities also have a Christian basis,

being a Christian school and we get

involved in a number of these

termly.

Aims of the School To prepare each student for life, both temporal and eternal.

To help students develop lively, inquiring minds; giving them the ability to question, to argue rationally and to apply themselves to tasks.

To develop each student to his or her full potential - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, bearing in mind the varying needs and abilities of each child.

To help students to understand the rapidly changing world in which we live.

To help students to use language, effectively and imaginatively, in reading, writing and speaking.

To provide a basis of mathematical, scientific and technical knowledge to enable both girls and boys, in the application of that knowledge, to cope with the demands of the world.

To teach students about past human achievement and aspirations in God’s created world.

To achieve these aims our programme of study incorporates the following aspects:

Spiritual: Chapel; Bible Studies on Contemporary Issues; Devotionals

Physical: PE on a weekly basis; access to regional and national competitions in different sports, depending on ability.

Social: Clubs; Common Room; free tea/coffee.

Community: Mission and Fundraising work for Borneo; Operation Child and events in the local community; Showcase Evening; Open Evening; NCS.

Leadership: House Captains; Sport Coaching; Camp Officers; weekly School Council meeting with the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher.

Post School: UCAS; Apprenticeship; CV writing; Work Experience.

Curriculum: A Levels; EPQ; Text Processing Diploma.

Curriculum Extension: Preparing for Life programme (including First Aid Training); subject related trips; conferences.

Facilities: Library; quiet study areas; ICT facilities; supervised Prep with teachers on hand.

Selection Programme

STEP ONE:

Post 16 Introductory Seminar for current students (for those at Trinity School) will introduce students to Post 16 options, including the sixth form experience and A levels offered at Trinity School. Pupils will receive the sixth form prospectus and A Level course handbook.

STEP TWO:

Morrisby Tests (for those at Trinity School) be administered during test week in November. This will help you to identify your abilities and interests. Although not compulsory, we would highly recommend that you do this test as it analyses not only your areas of strengths and weaknesses, but also offers suggestions for types of jobs. We find it a very useful tool as it helps each student who has taken it to clarify their ideas and to open their minds to job areas they might not have thought of before.

STEP THREE:

Open Afternoon on Saturday 21 November for parents and students where you will be able to find out more precise information about Post 16 Options and ask questions. Application forms for Trinity School Sixth Form will also be available. We would ask that the application forms for entry into Trinity Sixth Form are returned by Wednesday 20 January to Dr Ellis.

STEP FOUR:

Students will be encouraged to talk to the subject teachers who know about each individual’s intellectual strengths and weaknesses.

‘Taster’ lessons will also be given. It is important that students do not assume that subjects will just be like GCSE only harder. A level is a whole new ball game!

Page 7: Trinity School · 5. will treat other pupils with consideration, encouragement, and support. 6. will live in a manner that sets a good example for others 7. will be honest and truthful,

STEP FIVE:

Parents’ Evenings (7 January & 13 January 2016) where your parents will be able to discuss with the subject teachers your possible selection of A Level subjects.

STEP SIX:

Careers Programme in the students’ weekly PFL (Preparing For Life) lessons in the Spring Term. This will allow plenty of time for discussion and exploring options.

By the end of the Spring Term, we will write to you to confirm your place and choices.

Community You could be involved in a variety of missions, both national and international such as:

Fundraising Mission for Borneo Living Waters Village—Years 12 & 13

Trinity School sponsors 4 children (one for each House) through their education in Borneo via the Living Waters charity.

You need to collect, as part of your House, £20 per child per month. Your challenge is to find a sustainable way of raising the money! Those children count on you!

Operation Christmas Child—Yrs 12 & 13

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Christmas project, run by the Christian charity ‘Samaritan’s Purse’.

The charity has been sending gift-filled shoeboxes around the world since 1990, bringing joy to over 94 million under privileged children in the UK, in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Brentwood Foodbank— ‘feeding local people in crisis’

Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Trussell Trust Foodbanks provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK.

Help the local community and volunteer at your local Foodbank for a week, storing and labelling or distributing food, or fundraising for them!

Community

Mission Trip Kenya—Year 12 Watershed leads and supports a number of projects in Kenya.

The Lemoru Projects

In rural Kenya, we are focusing on projects that are being accomplished in partnership with the Lemoru community. This is a simple farming community with a heart to learn, develop, and help others. Within these “Lemoru projects” we are assisting with orphans, single mothers, education, water, and health care. These projects include ‘Naomi’s Home’ and the Lemoru Medical Facility. We are partnering with Kenyans to create long term success, ownership of the projects, and a multiplication model.

You will have one Year to raise funds for your flights, food, accommodation and extra financial support for equipment.

Proposed date: Autumn Half Term in September 2016

Appeals for Donations

Trinity School works with different missionaries and you can decide to respond to specific appeals for donations. For example, this year the Sixth-formers organised appeals to Nigeria and to Liberia in the Autumn Term.
