Introduction
When we shrink the size of transistors less than 30 nanometers, we observe an increase in leakage current of the transistor.
Thus, it would need more power to function correctly, which generates a significant amount of heat that may burn the transistor. So, a modification was done in its structure which not only balances the above problem but also introduced a revolution in technology.

Compared to Intel’s 1st Microprocessor, the 4004, a 22nm CPU runs 4000 times faster & each transistor uses about 5000 times less

energy. The price per transistor has
dropped by a factor of about 50,000. A 22nm transistor can switch on & off
well over 100 billion times in 1 sec. It would take you around 2000 years to flick a light switch on & off that many times.
