Emotion was there every time the Bird perched on Charlie’s

shoulder. Then a soft breathing was heard a sound coloured with

mattness, as if the pigment of Charlie’s complexion had blended

into the buoyant whistling of the Bird. One day, one day however,

Charlie and the Bird melted into one, body and soul, one and only.

For the first time in the history of instrument making, Selmer

Paris is inviting musicians to follow in the footsteps of a Reference collection.

Launched in 2005, “Tribute to Bird” is to celebrate the life of Charlie Parker

(1920-1955) on the 50th anniversary of his death and a tribute to the initiatory

approach with which he inspired the world of Jazz.

For five years, this unique collection, signed Selmer Paris is formed, with

every annual edition offering in a variety of forms a specific engraving, an

original work by an artisan-engraver, and an original design, a poetic look at

the culture of a continent.

Appropriate case and accessories contribute an exceptional touch to this

elegant ensemble.

But, above all, this collection remains a state of mind, the free spirit of “Bird”,

imbued with musical openness and creative energy.

2008-2009: following the previous editions Hummingbird/America (2005),

Kookaburra/Australia (2006), and Flamingo/Africa (2007), the tribute to Bird

collection now celebrates the European continent borrowing from its cultural

and literary imagination the evocation of the amazing Firebird, thus giving

birth to the fourth Collector’s edition, Firebird/Europe.

L’émotion était là chaque fois que l’oiseau se posait sur l’épaule

de Charlie. On entendait alors une douce respiration, un son

empreint de matitude, comme si le pigment de la peau de Charlie

se fondait dans le piquant du sifflement de l’oiseau. Un jour, un

jour cependant, Charlie et l’oiseau ne furent plus qu’un, qu’un

seul et même corps, qu’une seule et même âme …

Pour la première fois dans l’histoire du monde de la facture instrumentale,

Selmer Paris propose aux musiciens de cheminer sur les traces d’une

collection de Référence. Initié en 2005, « Tribute to Bird » est une célébration,

celle des 50 ans de la disparition du mythique Charlie Parker (1920-1955) et un

hommage à la démarche initiatique qu’il a insufflée au monde du Jazz.

Au fil de ces cinq années se constitue une collection unique signée Selmer

Paris. Chaque édition décline une gravure spécifique, œuvre inédite d’un artisan

graveur, et un design original, regard poétique sur la culture d’un continent.

Un étui et des accessoires personnalisés apportent une touche d’exception à

cet ensemble élégant.

Mais cette collection est surtout un état d’esprit, l’esprit libre de « Bird »,

empreint d’ouverture musicale et d’énergie créatrice.

2008-2009 : dans la lignée des éditions précédentes « Hummingbird/America »
