This primary source is a newspaper article written for the New York Tribune in 1912. It was

the creation of committees like the Factory Investigating Commission, The Committee of

Safety, and the Hoey act, which gave the fire department power to inspect buildings and

enforce laws. This article also gives quotes from heads of these Committees, making it a

valuable source to use in the project. Finally, it gave more details on the fire itself and the

changes that could have mitigated the damage.

source shows that other factories beside the Triangle were harsh and violating and that illegal

work was done off the books as expectations of factory owners. We used this source in our

documentary in the section titled Before the Fire. We used quotes about child labor, brutal

working conditions, and about her involvement in later labor organizations. This was a very

    prominent source in our documentary.

over New York State. This report is the minutes of the commission with G. I. Harmon in which

he explains his duties as an inspector and how he carried out his investigation at the Triangle

Shirtwaist Company. This report shows how G.I Harmon carried out the investigation of the

Triangle Shirtwaist Company, the lack of labor standards inacted in New York State, and the

Carelessness of New York Investigators. This was an incredibly abounding source because it

offered us details on how buildings were inspected before the fire and it gave us the reasons

. This is a source written on March 26, 1911 in the New York Times about the

overview of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. This was an incredibly insightful article about the

desperation of the workers, bodies jumping out of windows, and generally what happened in

the fire. This source had a great amount of detail and explored possible causes of the fire. It also

showed the inadequate exit methods to the building such as a weak fire escape, and charred

elevator. We used this source for its rich quotes about girls jumping to their deaths, summary

sentences, and for its details on unsafe building structure. This was a very reliable source

because it came from New York Times and was published in the online archives of Cornell

    University.

into the elevator, Josephine Nicolosi and Ida Willinsky, and manager Mr. Brown. We used this

source is published in Leon Steins book, The Triangle Fire which includes interviews and

testimonies with people related to the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. Leon Stein is an expert on the

Triangle Shirtwaist fire and his conclusions are back up with facts and supporting detail. This

particular testimony refers to the conditions of the Triangle factory before the fire and the lack of

action taken to better the working conditions. It introduces facts about safety precautions before

the 1911 fire, requests for safety equipment that were denied, and information about the

Newark fire that had occurred only four month before the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. We used this

information to show the lack of concern for factories in New York before the Triangle Fire and

about the poor factory conditions in the 1900s. This source offered us great quotes such as

from Fire Chief Croker and statistics before the fire.
