This week’s focus is on….

Today we have been raising money for Children In Need. We did

this with a variety of events, including ‘Guess how many sweets in a

jar’ competition, a toy sale, sponsored events and non-school

uniform day wearing our pyjamas and onesies.

So far we have raised an incredible £309.54 towards Children In

Need! The Community Counsellors would like to thank all the

pupils, parents and staff for supporting our fundraising efforts.

Their donations will be much appreciated and hopefully help a lot

of children who are in need.

This week the Year 5 classes visited the local Tesco's

to learn about where our food comes from on their

‘Farm to Fork’ programme.

When we arrived, we were taken behind the scenes

to the staff area where we were given yellow bibs to

wear while we were in the store. We were taken to

the different storage areas. We got to go in the

freezer and the chiller—it was so cold! Our guide told

us how food has to be kept as fresh as possible so

they have to get everything in the right freezers to a

timescale. After we had seen how everything arrives

at the supermarket and gets stored, we were taken

around to the cheese and fish counters. Our favourite

part was trying all the different cheeses and learning

about where they came from. We all agreed that

cheese from Somerset was the best! When we went

to the fish counter we had to wear a plastic glove

each and we got to touch the fish, it was disgusting!

After we had looked all around the store we went

back to the staffroom where the baker taught us how

they make bread. The baker started work at 3am! At

the end of our trip we were allowed to try a buffet of

all kinds of fruit, bread and we each had a drink. The

trip helped us to understand more about food and

trade routes. It was an enjoyable trip, especially for

our tummies!

Noah Clifford wow’s class 4A

This week, Noah has been

recognised by Mrs Blatchford

for his fantastic ‘hot seat’

performance. Noah showed

maturity beyond his

years .Acting as Howard

Carter, he delivered an

informative speech to his class.

He had clearly spent a whole

evening researching and

revising facts and figures

about his topic, Egypt. He

remained in character

throughout his performance,

answering his peers questions

on the spot whilst combining

his knowledge with

imagination. He was absolutely

outstanding and a credit to his

class.

“On Wednesday 11th November Howard Carter (aka

me) visited class 4A! If you don’t know who Howard

Carter was , he was the archaeologist who discovered

the famous Tutankhamun. Tutankhamun was a boy

King who ruled Egypt hundreds of years ago. They

had lots of questions for me!” - Noah

Year 4 Craft Egyptian Jewellery

This week we have been busy researching, drawing,

describing and making our Egyptian jewellery to

wear in our Joseph production at the end of term.

We selected a variety of beautiful colours of fimo and

made either a ring, bangle, bracelet or pendant. We

used animal, inset and bird source sheets to inspire

and inform our ideas. Here is a sample of the lovely

work we produced.

P.S. Just a little reminder to

parents/carers —Please could you

bring a white pillow case and any

kind of belt/scarf for your child’s

Egyptian costume, they will be

needing them around

the 4th December for

dress rehearsals.

Thank you to all the pupils who have brought in a

shoe box for Samaritans Purse. As a school

community we have put together over 50 shoe

boxes that we will be sending to the charity. This

will make a huge impact to a village and people less

fortunate than us will

be brought gifts of joy,

happiness and the

understanding that

someone has thought

about them. This is all

because of what you

have done. Thank you.

Swimming Gala

Bev-Lyn Dance

Congratulations to Kiera Glover who, along with 50

other Bev-Lyn pupils, danced at the British Legion’s

Remembrance Gala on Saturday night at the Regal

Theatre. They performed a World War 2 inspired

medley combining tap, ballet, jazz and

contemporary, finishing with a jive to “Boogie

Woogie Bugle Boy”, just like Strictly Come Dancing

on a Sunday night. The concert also had The

Military Wives Choir and Culdrose Naval Band

performing and raised £3000 for the charity.

If you came in to school last weekend you would

have been excused for thinking it was a hair

salon. In fact it was just Mrs Glover getting some of

her 250 Bev-Lyn Dance pupils glammed up for their

tap and modern exams. Trewirgie/Bev-Lyn pupils

did brilliantly well, all gaining over 70% with a top

mark of 93%. Well

done to all. They are

now busy preparing for

their next stage

performances in the

magical danced

nativity “Dancing to

Bethlehem” and

following that

Redruth’s pantomime

“Snow White and the

Seven Dwarves”.

Special Recognition for Mrs Hodson’s Y6 English Class

Y6

Mrs Hodson’s English set had to write an information text on a fictional lizard. Mrs Hodson was extremely

proud to showcase both Gabriel Sheer and Jamie Searle’s work.

Left: Jamie Searle’s creative writing. Below: Gabriel Sheer’s creative writing.

“The Tongo lizard is one of natures surprises.

It is a lazarus species, as in 1809 it was

thought to be extinct, Until 1982 there were

no clear sightings of any, but in 1982, many

children and pets were stolen from the city of

Cairo, and one was caught, finally,. They can

change colour according to their reports,

much like a chameleon, but their normal col-

our is black with gold speckles.

Their size range is from 1 foot long to 150cm

long, making it Egypt’s longest lizard, and the

second biggest in the world . It’s habitat is

around desserts which surround wealthy city,

so most are found in Egypt and the outback

of Australia. They sunbathe, as they are cold-

blooded lizards, when they warm up, they can

move much faster.

These lizards are highly dangerous, but also

endangered, as they can spit acids and bacte-

ria's from their mouth, but the bacteria's can

be used as medicines, so they are hunted a

lot. It can also release venom from its teeth,

and because the virus that hunters try to kill

them with takes a while to react, Tongo lizards

can spread the virus.

These remarkable creatures are under threat

of being on the endangered list, so let’s try to

keep them as safe as we can.”
