Land Pride welcomes you to the growing family of newIntroduction

product owners.

This Tree/Post Puller has been designed with care andbuilt by skilled workers using quality materials. Properassembly, maintenance, and safe operating practices willhelp you get years of satisfactory use from this machine.

ApplicationThe Land Pride STP15 Tree/Post Puller is designed andbuilt by Land Pride to remove shrubs, saplings, and smalltrees; pulling them from the ground, roots and all. Theserrated teeth also make this an ideal tool for removingsteel and wood fence posts. It has uses and applicationsin farming, ranching, construction sites, nurseries, orchards, landscaping, and fence building.

The 10" jaw opening allows you to grasp and pull a widerange of trees and posts with the added benefit ofminimal ground disturbance. Because the roots areremoved with the tree, chances for regrowth are alsoeliminated without the use of chemicals. When the jawsare closed, the ends form a spade point for digging intothe ground to loosen the tree roots. Fittings and hydraulichoses are protected at the hydraulic cylinder with adurable steel guard around the hydraulic cylinder.

! DANGERAlways be aware of a falling tree hazard. Any tree can fall thathas lost a part of its root support. Be especially cautious offalling trees when pulling large trees.

! WARNINGAlways secure equipment with solid supports before workingunder it. Never work under equipment supported byhydraulics. Hydraulics can drop equipment if controls areactuated or if hydraulic lines burst. Either situation can dropmachinery instantly even when power to hydraulics is off.

! WARNINGAlways use a skid steer with a cab door when pulling, transporting, and releasing trees. Roots and tree limbs cancome into the cab causing serious injury or death. Land Pridealso recommends that a skid steer brush guard be installed toprotect the cab and operator. Skid steer brush guards usuallycan be purchased from your local skid steer dealer.

! WARNINGDo not abuse equipment. Incorrect use of the Tree/Post Pullercan damage it structurally and cause serious injury or death.

• Maximum lift capacity should never exceed the rated liftcapacity of the skid steer being used. Exceeding themachine’s rated capacities can result in a rollover or otherserious hazards that can cause injury or death.

• Check hook-up points frequently to make sure the skid steerhitch is properly attached to the puller hitch and hook-uppoints are in good condition.

• Do not chain or strap loads to the Tree/Post Puller, skidsteer hitch, or skid steer.

• Do not use the Tree/Post Puller as a working platform. It isnot designed for this type of work. Using the unit as aworking platform can result in serious injury or death.

• Do not use the Tree/Post Puller for lifting the front or theback of the skid steer off the ground. Doing so can damagethe puller and cause injury.

Transport Safety

! WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when transporting a load. Usingunsafe transporting methods can damage the equipment andcause serious injury or death to the operator and bystanders.

• The operator of the skid steer must know how to control themachine and how to stop quickly in an emergency.

• Always transport loads with Tree/Post Puller low to theground to maintain stability of the skid steer.

• Transport with load upright to help keep it from falling.Never tilt load toward the operator.

• Always travel straight up and straight down inclines. Neverexceed 10 percent grade (5.7 degrees) when traveling on anincline. Never travel across inclines and make turns only onlevel ground.

• Transporting loads across bumpy, soft, or slippery surfacesreduces stability and lift capacity of the skid steer.Transporting and lifting loads under these conditions isextremely dangerous and can result in a rollover.

• Keep equipment and load away from electrical power lines.Place an orange warning sign under overhead electricalpower lines indicating type of danger above.

• Never transport a load on roadways.• When traveling on roadways, transport in such a way that

faster moving vehicles may pass you safely.• When traveling on public roads at night or during the day,

use accessory lights and devices for adequate warning tooperators of other vehicles. Comply with all federal, state, and local laws.

General OperationBy now you should have familiarized yourself with theOperator’s Manual for your STP15 Tree/Post Puller. Ifyou have not done so, please do so now. We cannotoverstress the importance of reading and following thesafety information and operating procedures that arespelled out in this Manual.

The skid steer should have a door on its cab to operatethe Tree/Post Puller safely. It will help stop tree limbs androots from coming into the cab. Land Pride alsorecommends attaching a brush guard on your skid steerto help protect the cab and operator. Brush guardsdesigned to fit your skid steer usually can be purchasedfrom the skid steer dealer.

Proceed by getting into the seat of your skid steer andfastening your seat belt before starting your skid steer. Itwon’t take you long to learn how to use your new LandPride Tree/Post Puller, but we do recommend that youtake a little time to practice securely attaching anddetaching your Tree/Post Puller to and from your skidsteer mounting hitch plate. It is also important to practicemaneuvering the Tree/Post Puller by raising and loweringthe puller and tilting the hitch forward and backward untilyou have gained the confidence and skill needed to havea good feel in what you are doing.

10/08/14

If you have not already done so, have the site markedwith flags to indicate where underground utilities run. Also check for overhead obstructions and place orangewarning signs under overhead electrical power linesindicating type of danger above.

It is now time to start removing those unwanted treesand/or posts. The maximum size of tree or post that canbe pulled will vary depending on condition of the soil, diameter and species of the tree, and size of the skidsteer pulling the tree or post. Pull only trees and poststhat are 10" and under in diameter.

Start by opening the jaws and lowering the puller close tothe ground. Move slowly forward to capture the treeinside and to the back of the jaws. Close jaws against thetree to drive the teeth into the tree. Be careful not to closethe jaws so tight as to shear off the tree or post.

Raise skid steer loader arms up to pull a post or tree outof the ground. If assistance is needed, move forward andbackward while pulling. Some side to side movementmay also be applied to assist pulling.

Larger trees and posts that require higher forces cansuddenly break loose from the ground causing a suddenuplift at the front of the skid steer. To guard against this, ease off on the lift cylinders once the tree or post starts topull loose from the ground. At this time, exert onlyenough force to slowly raise the post or tree from theground.

Some trees may require the roots to be excavated. Usethe spade points on the end of the jaws to do this. Alwaysclose jaws tight against each other before digging intothe soil. Rotate top of skid steer hitch plate forward toangle spades into the soil. Dig under the roots and rotatetop of skid steer hitch back and raise skid steer loaderarms up to rip individual roots from the ground. Continueto dig around the base of the tree in this fashion until allmajor roots have been ripped from the soil or broken into.

As conditions allow, several smaller trees can beaccumulated inside the jaws of the Tree/Post Pullerbefore disposing of them on a tree pile. Simple carry thefirst tree pulled to the next tree, lower the Tree/Post Pullerdown, and open its jaws to capture the next tree whilekeeping the first tree still inside the jaws. Close jawsaround both trees and pull. Continue to capture othersmall trees using this method until the jaws have exceedtheir ability to hold more trees.

When ready, transport post(s) and/or tree(s) upright inthe jaws to the pile. At the pile, rotate top of skid steerhitch plate forward to place the tree(s) or post(s) onto thepile. Release the grip the jaws have on the post(s) ortree(s).
