Environmental Programme : 2017-18
Department of Computer Science, Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College, Tiruppattur, in an
endeavour to carry out welfare measures to the people of surrounding villages, pursue extension activities.
Department of Computer Science has conducted one day extension activities at Thiruvudaiyar patti, a village
near Tiruppatttur on 21th October 2017. In the programme fifteen boys and thirty six girls of our department
effectively participated with the involvement.
Tree plantation is good for the environment. Everyone knows that trees are the source of oxygen.
They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen without which the survival of living beings is not possible on
earth. Trees also provide us with many benefits necessary for survival, including clean air, filtered water,
shade, and food. The planting trees are little things that students can do. On the request of the vice-president
of the village Neem tree plantation around the streets of the village was carried on by our students.
Both computer and Internet use have increased substantially in the past few years. In the afternoon,
computer and internet awareness was given to the village People by our students. Students issue the notice
about the uses of computers in various fields and important government and non government websites list.

Seethai Ammal Memorial
Tomb Extension activity 104
The II year (EM&TM) students of Economics Department carried Extension Activities
on 22&23.09.2017. The work was divided for two days. In view of the 79th
birthday of the
former President of the college late Thiru. N. AR. Nagarajan, on the first day, 22.09.2017 the
students cleaned the area where the former President of the college late Thiru. N. AR.
Nagarajan’s Samadhi is built. On the second day 23.09.2017, the students undertook cleaning
activities at Seethai Ammal Puram, 3 Kms. from the college on the way to Sivagangai.
“Cleanliness of the Village and Prevention of Dengue” was chosen as the theme for the
Extension Activity for this year.
Girl students were divided into four groups. The first two groups collected firsthand
information about the content of the theme selected for the extension activity. They visited
almost all the houses in the village to explain the need for keeping the surrounding clean,
particularly the evils of open defecation for nature’s call and the importance of growing trees
in the village.
In view of the fast spreading of viral fever, students undertook an awareness campaign.
They explained the seriousness of the viral fever, causes, preventing measures, the need for
keeping the surroundings clean. They distributed pamphlets, hand notices, etc., regarding the
problems. The other two groups cleaned the bushes along the road site from the entrance of the
village. They also cleaned the plastic wastes, garbage along the road side. They explained the
village people about the evils of using plastics, the diseases caused by plastics, the
environmental problems created by plastic wastes, the inability to save rain water in ponds,
etc, the problems increasing the water level in various water bodies in villages due to the use
of plastics.
Boy students were divided into four groups for cleaning activities. They cleaned the
village Kayankanmai water tank. They removed the bushes grown in the tank, removed plastic
wastes. About 50 saplings were planted. All the students cleared the plastic wastes thrown in
streets in the village and cleaned the bushes along the roadside.
Through the extension activities students not only gain knowledge on environment
protection, but also educated the village people keeping the village clean and healthy. This
visit to Seethaiammalpuram helped the people understand the necessity of keeping the village
clean and at the same time students were able to have an opportunity to serve the village
people.

Extension
activity

Extension activity provides a link between the College and the Society. In order to
create socially sensitive citizens, the second year students are made aware of the common
extension activities through department specific extension activities during the Induction
Programme at the commencement of each academic year. Staff members and students of all
the departments of Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College, Tiruppattur adopted villages, in
an endeavor to carry out welfare measures to the people of surrounding villages.
Department of History carried out two day extension activity at Tiruthalinathar temple
at Tiruppattur on7th
and 8th
October, 2017. In the programme 41 students of our department
effectively participated with the social view and voluntarily involved in cleaning the temple
campus. We conducted environmental programme in which we cleaned the second circle of
the Tiruthalinathar temple. Our staff members divided the students into three groups. Each
group was allocated with a particular area for cleaning. Three groups were asked to collect all
the stones from the ground separately in different sacs. The renewable, such as dry leaves,
twigs, papers etc and non-renewable wastes such as carry bags, and plastic items etc. were
collected separately. The renewable wastes were collected and were put inside the vermi-
composed tank.
In the programme 19 boys 22 girls and of our department voluntarily involved in
cleaning every part of the temple and also cleaned inside of the temple. Our students insisted
the public how to maintain cleanliness in and around the temple. The total students were
organized by all the staff members of our department.
Our students taught how to minimize the garbage produced during the distribution of
holy food in the temple. The administrators of the temple appreciated our activity and
expressed to us.

Environmental Programme
Tree Plantation
2017-18
Department of Physics, through its extension activity programme, conducts tree plantation
programme in its adopted village Kottaiyeruppu near Tiruppattur, Sivagangai district. As per the
Alagappa University guidelines, extension activity programme should be conducted on any two days,
preferably Saturday and Sunday, during the third semester of the UG course. Variety of programs,
which also includes saplings plantations, was conducted during this extension activity. All the forty
five II B.Sc., students were taken to the Kottaiyeruppu village on 28th
and 29th
October 2017 along
with staff members of Physics department. Students planted various varieties of saplings such as
neem, banyan, peepal, guava etc., in and around of Kottaiyeruppu village. The saplings, which will
grow as trees with time, gives numerous benefits to the human beings such as oxygen for breathing,
reduces erosion of soil and pollutions in waterways and also as shelter to variety of birds. Inculcating
the habit of sapling plantation in the students mind will also help to reduce the effect of global
warming in our universe.
