Beading Techniques needed to complete the necklace: Opening and Closing a Jump Ring Wire Wrapping Wire Wrapped Links Covering a Component – Outer Edge Instructions to complete “Tree of Life” necklace: Tip The pendant is made with a variation of the Covering a Component – Outer Edge Technique. If you are not familiar with the technique, read through the technique’s steps to get a general idea before beginning. Step 1 Using wire cutters, cut eight 6-inch lengths of wire and two 12-inch length of wire.

Step 2 Anchor one 12 inch length of wire to the component (see Covering a Component – Outer Edge Technique) by wrapping one end around the component three times.

Step 3 Continue wrapping the wire end until you reach a ½ inch length. Trim the wire tail close to the component.

Step 4 Repeat Step 2 with the remaining lengths of wire. Trim the wire tail close to the component.

Step 5 Twist all 10 wire lengths together tightly about halfway toward the component’s center, forming the tree’s “trunk.”

Step 6 Separate and spread pairs of wires away from the trunk. These wires will form the “branches.” Make sure the remaining 12 inch length of wire is the last wire length on the right.

Step 7 Begin twisting one pair of wires about halfway toward the component.

Step 8 String four 3mm glass beads onto one wire, and anchor the wire onto the component.

Step 9 String one 3mm glass bead onto the same wire, and anchor the wire onto the component. Trim the wire tail close to the component.

Step 10 In the same manner as in the previous steps, continue twisting each pair of wires and stringing beads onto individual wires in the order shown. Leave the end 12-inch length of wire uncut.

Step 11 Continue wrapping the 12-inch wire length end until you reach the bottom of the wrapped component “trunk.” Trim the wire tail close to the component.

Step 12 Place one 4mm glass bead onto one head pin, making 1 unit. Wire wrap (see Wire Wrapping Technique) this unit to the first link on the leaf chain. Cut excess wire using wire cutters.

Step 13 Repeat Step 12 on the full length of leaf chain adding the wire wrapped loops to every other link.

Step 14 Using a 2-inch length of wire, make a wire wrapped link (see Wire Wrapped Link Technique) and connect it to the first chain link of the leaf chain. Cut excess wire using wire cutters.

Step 15 Add one 4mm glass bead. Make a wire wrapped link (see Wire Wrapped Link Technique) with the other end of wire and connect it to the first chain link of one 1-inch piece of flat oval chain. Cut excess wire using wire cutters.

Step 16 Repeat Steps 14-15 4 more times (using four more 1-inch oval cable chain lengths)

Step 17 Repeat steps 14-16 for the other end of the leaf chain.

Step 18 Open one jump ring (see Opening and Closing a Jump Ring Technique). Use the jump ring to attach the chain to the top of the component across from the tree’s “roots.” Close the jump ring.

Step 19 Use one jump ring to attach one end of the flat oval chain.

Step 20 Repeat Step 19 with the opposite side of the necklace. Add the lobster clasp to the jump ring and close the jump ring.

Step 21 Optional: If wire ends create any rough spots, apply a small drop of Hypo Tube Cement to the spot.
