• Republican Army of the North vs. Spanish Colonial Army

• Caused by joint American and Mexican forces issuing the “Declaration of

Independence for a state of Texas”• Spanish colonial leaders sent General

Arredondo to put down this uprising in San Antonio

• Colonial Army wins decisively and executes American/Mexican prisoners

• From this point forward, Spanish forces in Texas are brutal and oppressive• General Arredondo now acts as

governor of Texas• This is the beginning of the Mexican

struggle for independence from Spain
