LENGTH - The 2nd digit is the length of the crown or denture. They are lettered from B- G.

PRODUCT - The third digit is the type of product.

TOOTH - The fourth digit is the class of tooth.

LEFT OR RIGHT - The fifth digit determines left or right. 1 is left, 2 is right. If crown is universal (no left or right side) last number will always be odd.

Seamless Gold Shell Crowns 1. Select crown of proper form and size. Cut

gingival margin to roughly conform to gingiva.

2. Test-fit crown on prepared tooth, then trim

until crown is 1mm high in occlusion. Reseat

on tooth and have patient bite it into place;

this will not only seat crown fully, but will

also shape occlusal surface to conform to

opposing teeth.

3. If contact area is short, remove crown and

shape to desired contact with contouring

pliers or build up with solder.

4. Reinforce occlusal with solder; cut 1/4 dwt

of solder into small pieces – place inside of

crown with borax flux – hold crown over bun-

sen flame, occlusal down, until solder flows.

(If contact was built up with solder, use lower-

fusing solder to reinforce occlusal). Allow to

cool and cement in place.

cemented in just one sitting!

EASY SIZING WITH OUR FREE RULER

After you have prepared the tooth, take a

wire measurement using Masel’s soft liga-

ture wire, forming a loop around the tooth

cervix. Lay the wire over our gold sizing

ruler* to learn the correct diameter.

Another method of determining the correct

size is to use copper bands as a guide.

Full gold and open-face gold teeth are the backbone of the

Masel denture line. Available in many sizes and shapes, these

teeth easily insert into a denture exactly as you would a porce-

lain tooth. Our open-face models come in three acrylic shades

— 10 (light), 20 (medium) and 30 (dark).

Ask your patients—you’ll be surprised how many want the

look of gold in their denture. Masel “gold plastic” teeth in

front of a denture can resemble fixed bridgework, a look that

some patients want. Other patients like the appearance that

how to determine the correct size of denture teeth All gold plastic and full gold denture teeth have mm lengths and widths displayed

next to their photograph. This is an excellent guide for proper fit. Since each

denture tooth is essentially hand constructed, the sizes illustrated are not exact

but averages.

method of insertion For easy and secure attachment, the full gold and plastic

denture teeth are supplied with a “tail” on the lingual sur-

face. Do not break off – its purpose is for anchorage in the

denture material. In the case of a full gold tooth, which is

hollow, bend in the tail towards the hollow portion to form

a pocket. When using a gold plastic tooth, which is filled

with acrylic, bend the tail away from the acrylic to form a

90° angle. In addition, you may wish to wet the lingual area

of the denture with monomer so the gold denture tooth will

stick to it while it is being cured.
