INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

Age of technology resulted in sophistication of treatment options. Developments in:

• Dosage reduction: From multiple daily doses to single dose –

improving patient compliance (allopathic) From raw herbs to extracts

(complementary)• Hands-on therapy to medical

devices: Development of numerous medical devices

from massage machines to acupressure pens, UV/Laser, energy, magnetic and other treatment equipment

CRITICAL CONSIDERATIONS

• Incorporating other treatments/medication: As long as it is within the Tibb philosophical principles – especially Physis.

• Emphasis not only on medication – also include, dietotherapy, lifestyle and cupping

• Hippocratic principle of “pepsis” – digestion and elimination

• Dealing with patients presenting with illness conditions in different Qualitative Frames

MAKING APPROPRIATE CHOICE OF TREATMENT

• Consideration of Patient Profile: Personal, work, financial, social and

cultural circumstances• Compliance: Choice of treatment must promote

patient compliance• Protocol: Protocol to address severity of

conditions as well as patients with illness conditions in different Qualitative Frames

• Referrals: Refer appropriately, in the interest of

the patients.

CONCLUSION

• “Different strokes for different folks”

• Your approach should be as aggressive as possible, using as many options available – without compromising, or over burdening the patient.

• Embrace technological advancements in therapeutics within the concept of Tibb principles

• “For every illness there is a cure”
