Day 1: Depart U.S. for Lima, Peru
Day 2: Arrive Lima Upon arrival in thePeruvian capital early this morning, we transferto our hotel for breakfast and time to rest(rooms are ready for our early arrival). Earlyafternoon, we enjoy a Welcome Lunch at a localrestaurant. After lunch, we visit the LarcoHerrera Museum whose ceramics collection,featuring a renowned set of erotic pre-Columbianpots, is unparalleled. Later we tour colonialLima, then enjoy leisure time this evening. B,L
Day 3: Lima/Cuzco/Sacred Valley Early thismorning we transfer to the airport for the briefflight to Cuzco, where upon arrival we stop forbrunch, then continue on to the beautiful SacredValley, a region of Inca sites and indigenousvillages. After stopping at the colorful Indianmarket at Pisac, we reach our hotel mid-afternoon.Before dinner there tonight, we attend a nativeceremony, Offering to the Earth. B,L,D
Day 4: Sacred Valley Today's tour begins witha visit to the Incan farming town of Chinchero,set on a broad plateau presided over by a snow-capped mountain. Here residents live much astheir ancestors did, wearing traditional clothingand conducting business and local government bytraditional means. Next we tour the importantsalt mines in the lovely colonial town of Maras,where we also enjoy lunch together. We spendthe afternoon exploring Ollantaytambo, a livingtown and site of massive Incan ruins that stillinspire wonder today. We return to our hotellate this afternoon and dine there tonight. B,L,D

Day 6: Machu Picchu/Cuzco This morningbefore the crowds of day trippers arrive we takeour second guided tour of this UNESCOWorldHeritage site, when the early morning sun bathesthe stones in a haunting, evocative light. Afterlunch at our hotel, we return to Cuzco by train.The remainder of the day is at leisure. B,L
Day 7: Cuzco We set out this morning on a tourof the archaeological hub of the Americas, the con-tinent's oldest continuously inhabited city, andUNESCOWorld Heritage site. Dynamic andhistoric, Cuzco is rich with the legacies of its Incaand Spanish forebears. We stop at the ruins ofSacsayhuaman, the still beautiful "House of theSun," an Incan masterpiece, then enjoy lunch inthe home of a gracious Cuzco family. This after-noon is at leisure. B,L
Day 8: Cuzco/Puno This morning we departfor the day-long journey by coach to Puno, on theshores of Lake Titicaca. As we travel through therugged snow-capped Andes dotted with small vil-lages and herds of llama and alpacas, we make sev-eral stops along the way: Andahuaylillas, an attractivevillage known for its lovely 17th-century church;
the ruins at Raqchi, once the holiest site in theIncan empire; La Raya, perched on Peru’s altiplano(high plain) and home to the Llama and AlpacaResearch Center; and the ceramics center ofPucara. We reach our hotel on the shores ofEsteves Island on Lake Titicaca late this afternoon;it’s just five minutes into the center of Puno fromour hotel. B,L
On Day 9 we visit the Uros Indians who live on “floating islands” of reeds on Lake Titicaca.

Day 9: Puno/Lake Titicaca We spend theday exploring the fascinating life of LakeTiticaca, South America’s largest lake and at12,500 feet above sea level, among the world’shighest navigable lakes. Up here the air isclearer, the colors sharper, and the horizonfarther. By boat we visit the Floating Island ofLos Uros, where the top-hatted Uros peoplelive on “islands” made of the reeds that growin the lake’s shallows; in fact, the Uros rely onthese reeds for their boats, the small huts inwhich they live, household items, and thehandcrafts they sell. We also visit Isla Taquile,known for the high quality textiles crafted bythe indigenous people who live here; sales oftheir textiles support the self-sustainingTaquilenos. On our visit, we see the men intheir signature woven woolen caps with floppyearpieces, and women in tailored waistcoatsand multi-layered skirts. We also witness thebreathtaking natural beauty surrounding us,with Bolivia’s snow-capped Cordillera range astriking backdrop to the deep blue of LakeTiticaca. Day 10: Puno/Lima/Depart for U.S. Thismorning we visit the mysterious burial towers(chullpas) at Sillustani overlooking Lake Umayo.Then we transfer to the airport for the flight toLima, where we check into our day rooms at anairport hotel. Late this evening we depart onour flight to the U.S. B

We are delighted to announce an exciting and exclusive 11-day tour to colorful Peru. Please joinus as we explore this amazing land of archaeological, cultural, and natural treasures. In the company offellow alumni, as well as a Peruvian guide, we’ll explore remote villages and lakes, thousands of feetabove sea level, traverse ancient and enigmatic ruins, and marvel at the riches of an intriguing landsomewhat off the beaten path.
We begin in Lima with a city tour, including the Larco Herrera Museum, and then fly to Cuzco—the archaeological hub of the Americas and the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city. We’llacclimate to the high altitude while touring the beautiful Sacred Valley, the Indian market at Pisacand the extensive ruins at Ollantaytambo. A thrilling train ride delivers us to Machu Picchu, thestunning "Lost City of the Incas" and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our overnight stay allowsus to take advantage of prime viewing opportunities before the crowds arrive.
On the final leg of our tour, we’ll travel overland through Peru’s rugged altiplano with its snow-capped mountains and remote villages to Lake Titicaca, one of the world’s highest navigable lakes.We’ll board a boat to the Floating Islands and Taquile Island, known for the superb locally-craftedtextiles.
