Introduction

A few years ago I was doing some web surfing and was guided to the website of Underhill Geomatics Ltd., a survey company in British Colum-bia, Canada. They offer a range of free survey applications for survey-ors. Copan is a COGO program for windows. Copan Lite is free, Copan Pro, which has some more CAD functionality is available at a charge.

option to import raw data from both Wild/Leica equipment and Nikon. At the time I was using both brands of Total Station.

Product review

Copan Lite is a (free) COGO program for Windows that is a nice tool for a surveyor to have in his toolbox. It lets you:

(1) Import ASCII point files and show them graphically on the screen. (2) Import or hand-enter raw data that can be used to re-calculate coordinates values. (3) Map check parcels and traverses with adjustment.

There is one other function that I have not explored yet, being a resection or "Free Station Processing" module.

Conclusion

I find the user interface sometimes confusing because of the many options and settings. To get over this obstacle, there is a great on-line tutorial to answer any questions you might have. Overall the Copan Lite program is a nifty application for surveying students and surveyors on a budget.
