Aims:• To understand the purpose and features of travel writing

Write a brief account of a memorable event that happened on holiday.

Travel Writing techniques: • Gives a personal account, • First person narrative • Has a strong sense of the writer’s personality• Uses humour • Uses personal experiences and anecdotes (stories from

experience)• Can be reflective about the destination or the situation the

writer finds himself in• Can use dialogue to add realism • Uses exaggeration for comic effect• Can be colloquial (chatty style- like the writer is having a

conversation with the reader)• Uses facts about the place described• Can give a strong opinion (can be critical or sarcastic)• Paints a vivid picture in the readers’ mind (can use similes,

strong adjectives etc)
