UCI Bike Shop - Now Open! UCI Transportation is excited to announce the reopening of the campus bike shop conveniently located in parking lot 5 near the Student Center. Run by UCI alumni, the bike shop's professional staff have decades of bicycle industry experience and provide quality, affordable, and timely bike repairs. Schedule an appointment for service or stop by to purchase a new bicycle, helmet, lights, lock, or other accessories. To further support our growing bicycle community, UCI Transportation is offering a $50 rebate for new bikes purchased at the campus bike shop between September 1 and November 30, 2019. Restrictions apply, please email [email protected] for more information. Travel with FlixBus Beginning November, Anteaters will have an additional low-cost option for long-distance travel from UCI. Ride in comfort with FlixBus and enjoy business class seating, power outlets at every seat, complimentary WiFi, and a selection of free movies and other entertainment. FlixBus routes include Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and northern California with one-way tickets as low as $5. Take a ride with friends or to see family over winter break. On Tuesday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 16, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the flagpoles near Aldrich Hall, all UCI faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to stop by and learn about bike safety, purchase a used bike, race adult-sized tricycles, and enter to win great prize drawings. Our BikeUCI Ambassadors and certified League of American Bicyclists Instructors will be on hand to guide you with proper cycling etiquette, using gears efficiently, and how to plan the best routes for riding. UCI Wins Green Fleet Award UCI was named as having one of the greenest fleets in North America at the third annual Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference in Durham, North Carolina. The Green Fleet Award, open to all federal, state, and local governments, is based on a comprehensive set of criteria specifically tailored around the challenges and requirements for government vehicles. UCI stood out for its strategic approach of incorporating zero-emission vehicles in support of campus operations and the UC Carbon Neutrality Initiative. This recognition follows the recent award honoring UCI as having the Nation’s Leading Public Fleet for 2019 which was presented at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo. Join Waze Carpoolathon UCI's on-demand carpool matching service, Waze Carpool, is dedicated to eliminating excessive vehicle use and reducing trips on the road. Sign up with Waze to share your ride with other Anteaters and split the cost of gas. As an added incentive through Sunday, November 3, Waze Carpool is hosting Carpoolathon, a 5-week carpooling marathon where drivers and riders may compete in weekly challenges to earn additional rewards! Download the mobile apps today and sign-up as a driver or rider to begin saving. Interactive Map Enhancements To further improve your experience navigating our campus, UCI Transportation has added several enhancements to the online interactive map. Visibility of pathways has been improved, additional bike parking locations were added, and accessible routes are now highlighted from ADA parking stalls to the nearest building entrance. Additionally, you may notice our newly opened housing communities, including the Middle Earth Towers, Plaza Verde, and the expansion of University Hills. Look for further developments in the coming weeks including lactation rooms, bike repair stands, and on-campus United States Postal Service drop-off locations. 2019 ROADS Scholarship Recipients Congratulations to the UCI students who have been awarded a 2019 ROADS (Reward Opportunity Advancing Distinguished Students) scholarship worth $2,000: Eileen Antoinette Fonseca, Miranda Amethyst McCormick, Bryan David Orozco, Mario Alberto Rodriguez Sr., and Maria De Jesus Zacarias Torres. These six undergraduates were selected for their involvement in sustainable programs and their commitment to protecting and improving our environment while maintaining a GPA above 3.0.
