CBS378 Translation for the Media – Assignment 1

The Hong Kong Group Fund has been subsidizing outstanding students from poor

families in Mainland China to further their studies in Hong Kong XX University for six

consecutive years. It has allotted HK$18 million in total, contributing towards the

education in our mother country. Last week, the principle of X University, Professor

Wong Ying Wai, visited the Hong Kong Group with a dozen or so recipient Mainland

students. They met the chairman of the fund, Mr. Chan Tai Man, and expressed their

gratitude to the fund.

During the meeting, Mr. Chan talked friendly with the visiting students about their

plans of development after graduation. He said, ‘the Hong Kong Group Fund has

been providing eighty underprivileged talented students in Mainland with subsidies

to complete their studies every year since 2005. We are much honored about this.

We also hope that the recipient students could achieve their studies and become the

pillars of our motherland in the future.’

At the same time, Professor Wong appreciated the Hong Kong Group Fund for the

financial assistance and said, ‘the grants offered students with financial difficulties

substantial support together with the opportunities to receive higher education. Our

university will continue our efforts on equipping high-quality talents with the sense

of responsibility, innovative spirit and international visions for our country.’

香港集團基金連續六年合共撥款 1800萬港元資助家境貧困的內地優才生,前來

香港 XX大學升學,為祖國育才樹人盡一分力。上星期 X大校長王英偉教授連

同十多名受助內地生到訪香港集團與基金主席陳大文先生會面交流,並表達對基

金的謝意。

陳大文先生於席間與到訪學生親切交談,了解他們學成後的發展路向,並表示:

「香港集團基金自 2005年起,每年資助 80名家境貧困的內地資優學生完成學

業,對此深感榮幸,更期望受惠學生能學有所成,成為祖國未來的棟樑。」

同時,王英偉教授感謝香港集團基金的資助:「助學金向經濟有困難的學生提供

了實質的支援,讓他們有機會接受高等教育。本校將繼續努力為國家培養具責任

感、有創新精神及國際視野的高質素的人才。
