Student Supports: The Child Study Process

  Classroom interventions for students who are experiencing academic or behavioral concerns which impact educational achievement. These interventions do not require specialization from a special education teacher. The child study team meets regularly to review the individual plan. The team consists of: parent, dean, regular education teacher, specialists

Student Supports: The Child Study Process

  If, over time, the classroom interventions in the Child Study plan are proving to not be successful for the child, a referral can be made by any member of the team to pursue testing to see if the child meets criteria in order to receive specialized instruction through special education.

What Is The Role Of A Case Manager?

  The case manager is the individual who has the primary responsibility for ensuring that students on their respective caseloads, who have been identified as students with disabilities, receives access to the general curriculum. This goal is achieved by developing and implementing an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).   Coordinating the implementation of related services   Communicating educational progress   Managing the ongoing review of the student’s need for

educational services, including the annual IEP and the three year reevaluation process

Who Do I Contact?

Person How Can They Help? Case Manager Questions related to the implementation of IEPs, overall academic and

social performance, and general questions and concerns. The case manager should also be copied on all correspondence to other staff members.

Teacher Questions regarding class and homework assignments. Any questions about upcoming projects, grades, or any specific concerns related to that class.

Counselor Concerns regarding social situations, elective class schedules, scheduling parent-teacher conferences, and emotional issues common to middle school students (peer to peer relationships).

House Secretary Early dismissals, bus passes, notes from home Deans Any academic or discipline concern that cannot be addressed by the

teacher or counselor. This would include bus issues and general classroom concerns.

What Is Resource?

  Resource is a class that each student has every other day. This time is designed so that students and teachers can spend time outside of the regular class on reteaching, retesting, remediation, or enrichment. This time can also be spent on organization and study skills. Lunsford offers three levels of individualized support in resource: academic, guided, and self-contained

  6th & 7th Graders have resource for 45 minutes

  8th Graders have resource for 90 minutes
