The University Day coincided w i t h t h e i m p l e m e ntat i o n o f a commendable initiative: the launch of Senior Club consisting of the retired members of the university's teaching staff.
Dr Ioan Vasile Abrudan, Rector of Transilvania University, announced the opening of the club as well as the main reasons for the setting it up: equal treatment for all the retired faculty staff, support for the good initiatives by those who dedicated their professional life to the development of the university, capitalizing on the experience and expertise of the club members in academic governance, etc. The positive experience of the Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering in terms of ensuring the continuity of the teaching activity for its retired staff was itself a strong argument in support of this initiative.
Although at a short notice, the announcement rounded up 101 participants, among whom former rectors, vice‐rectors, deans and heads of department, whose work was essential to building up the academic reputation of our university.
A decision was made to include this club in the organisation chart of the university, and to formalize its status by drafting a statute, establishing its headquarters and a meeting schedule consisting of at least two plenary meetings a year (on the University Day and at the beginning of the academic year). The club members will be able to organise activities supporting the university projects.
Probably unique in Romania, this initiative was very well received by both retired and active teaching staff who congratulated those who initiated and implemented it.

ANNIVERSARY CONCERT ON TRANSILVANIA UNIVERSITY DAYOn 1 March, Aula Magna was the venue of the concert The Bach Family and the Organ,
performed by organist Ursula Philippi. The event was part of the University Concert Season held at the Musical Centre. The concert included organ masterpieces casting tree generations of the Bach musical dynasty: Johann Christoph Bach – Prelude and Fugue in E‐flat Major, BWV 177, Johann Sebastian Bach – Passacaglia in C minor, BWV 582, Prelude to chorale harmonisation Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr, BWV 662, Concert in D minor after Antonio Vivaldi, BWV 596, and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: Sonata in A Major, Three Miniatures, Fantasy and Fugue in C minor.
Dr Ursula Philippi performs on national and international stages, won an impressive number of prizes in international contests, releases musical records, and publishes field studies, while also pursuing an academic career. Her involvement in various volunteering activities, in musical and cultural projects introduces her as an authentic professional and a landmark of humanity and spirituality.
Central to Ursula Philippi's repertoire is the organ music of the German Classical and Romantic composers, as well as the Transylvanian music, from Renaissance to contemporary works. This broad‐spectrum repertoire is supported by her exceptional performance qualities: stylistic flexibility, tempo based on outstanding talent and intuition, wide range of performance techniques, generosity and naturalness in rhythm and modulation, and a remarkable delivery technique. Ursula Philippi entranced the audience in Braşov with her exquisite program and momentous performance.

According to writer Ileana Vulpescu, “Two human qualities can never be feigned, nor replaced: intelligence and kindness”.
A man who is in no need to mimic either of these is definitely Dr Strul Moisă, who has, for past 25 years, directly or indirectly marked the evolution of the relations between the Romanian‐Israeli academic communities.
Romanian‐born Professor Strul Moisă, from Ben Gurion University in Beer‐Sheva, specialist in metallurgy, is an Honorary Professor at our university, which he graduated in 1967 and where he earned his doctoral degree in 1999.
Since 1991, Dr Moisă has been a catalyst of contacts between Romania and Israel, between Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Beer‐Sheva, and universities and academics across Romania.
From among the Romanian universities, Transilvania University of Braşov, ranks first in terms of its connections with the University of Beer‐Sheva, the first collaboration agreement between the two universities being signed in 1995. An active part in this was also played by Professor Nachum Finger ‐ Rector, Professor Dan Eliezer and Professor David Itzhak ‐ Heads of Department, and Professor Moshe Dariel.
Awarding the title of Honorary Senator of Transilvania University on 8 March is more than acknowledging Professor Strul Moisă's accomplishments, but also acknowledging his role in developing the longstanding and fruitful relationships between the academic environment in Romania and Israel.

PROFESSOR STRUL MOISĂ BECOMES HONORARY SENATOR AT TRANSILVANIA UNIVERSITY OF BRAŞOV
In keeping with its tradition, the Creativity Lab (C.V.T.C.) became once again the meeting hub for all its prospective students who are interested in state‐of‐the‐art technologies and are ready to implement them.
Speaking on behalf of the University, Dr Liliana Rogozea, Vice‐Rector, welcomed twenty highschoolers from Grigore Moisil National College (coordinated by prof. Ion‐Dan Chirilă) and twenty highschoolers from Dr Ioan Meşotă National College and from Unirea National College (coordinated by prof. Octavian Polexa and prof. Mirela Sabău, respectively). The significant increase in the number of participants – twice as many as last year – testifies to a genuine interest in cutting‐edge equipment (National Instruments, Cypress, Digilent, LabJack, NeuroSky, INTEL, etc.), and to the fruitful collaboration between the three colleges and the CVTC, under the umbrella of Cypress – National Instruments Club.
The discussions following the demonstrations by Dr Doru Ursuţiu showed the interest of prospective students in becoming more and more involved in activities of the sort. Through constant collaboration between our University and the three colleges in Braşov, we intend to collect a series of lab works meant as a guide to a modern approach to the study of physical phenomena. In elaborating and promoting our project we hope to be supported by the Ştiinţescu Foundation Braşov, an institution that promotes the study of exact sciences among students.

On University Day, the Norbert Detaeye Media & Arts Centre offered a program titled Rhythms, artefacts and images: travel stories from Latin America. Within this program, a colourful and exotic exhibition consisting of 187 artefacts, among which paintings, maps, textiles, ceramic, silver jewellery illustrating crafts from 15 Latin American countries, was introduced to the public by its owners, a family of travellers from Brașov.
The event was designed in an informal, interactive format; it included live music performed by Ionuț Drăgoi (xylorimba), Alin Zichil and Sorin Cosma (percussion), as well as documentaries about Maya, Machu Picchu, Tierra del Fuego, Argentinian and Brazilian civilisations. Participants were able to listen to music of the 60s on vinyl – the strange Missa Criolla with Los Chalchakis (Argentina, Paraguay, Chile), the magical flutes and panpipes from the collections of the Media Library, as well as more modern CDs with Mexican mariachi band music and Argentinian tangos.
The visitors were members of the academic community as well as members of the Latin American community in Brașov; among them, a musician from Ecuador with his family and Dr Modesta Perralta Sosa from the Dominican Republic, with her Brașov‐born husband.
The exhibits were gently handled by many of the participants and the stories of the remote places they were collected from: Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Uruguay, Peru, Chile and many other were placed on the maps and led to discussions about history, geography, music, art, dance and were at the end spiced up with tortillas and salsa.
The good news is that the exhibition, enhanced by the participation of the Latin American community of Brasov, will also be open for the 2017 Etnovember Festival.

STUDENTS AT THE FACULTY OF SOCIOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION DISCOVER A “LOST WORLD”
On 2 March, within the event “The sociology of documentaries”, students at the Faculty of Sociology and Communication were able to watch two documentaries produced by Sahia Film studios: the first was a black‐and‐white film made in 1956 about the daily lives of the inhabitants of “Steagul Roșu” district in Brașov city; the second film was shot in colours, in 1980, and treated a similar topic set in Bucharest.
Dr Ștefan Ungurean, member of the faculty staff, and Mr Ciprian Drăguț, economist and a Transilvania University alumnus, took part in both the screening of the two documentaries and the discussion that followed.
“Beyond the ideological aspect of the two documentaries, the students discovered what we might call a 'lost world'. They rightly noted the continuity of perennial human values (love, children, quality time spent with family and friends, solidarity), aspirations obviously more modest compared to the ones we have today, as well as a rhythm of life completely 'different' from the one we have
nowadays. These were obvious reasons for reflection on the profound changes that the Romanian society has undergone in the past five decades”, said Ciprian Drăguț.

The main idea of OERCO2 is to create an Open Educational Resource (OERCO2) where the calculations of CO emissions in each phase of the building are summed up so as to get an overall 2
picture about the footprint from its conception, and decide on each variable of the construction. The specific objectives of OERCO2 are to introduce the calculation of the CO emissions at 2
all phases of the construction processes as well as the concepts related to recycling and reuse; to increase the awareness related to climate change; to provide information about emissions for each element, and to give free access to OERCO2 for the agents involved in the construction sector (students, AEC professionals, etc.)
OERCO2 intends not just to raise awareness, but also to get all entities involved in the construction sector aware about CO emission, from the extraction of raw materials to the 2
manufacturing of the materials of construction to the demolition works of buildings, that is, to take into account the life cycle of materials and construction processes.
The first step to manage and reduce CO emissions is to calculate them in order to know the 2
importance of this environmental aspect and to implement measures to improve the situation. To obtain a better understanding of the impact and work on it, it is important to measure CO emissions from de design and conception of the building, and in accordance with 2
these measures to know the different possibilities to reduce the footprint, to construct a more sustainable and lower‐carbon building. It is indispensable to be aware of the emissions from the first phases of the project in order to take early actions and to choose
between the different materials, means of transport, constructive methods, and use during the life of the building, demolition systems, reuse, etc., and to examine how to contribute to the increase or decrease the emissions of the building.

thTo celebrate the 8 of March this year, an extraordinary violin and
piano recital was organized at the Musical Centre. Part of the concert season of Transilvania University of Brașov, the recital was given by Eszter Kleinman‐Stankowsky and Asaf Kleinman, two young artists widely recognized for their talent.
The selected repertoire, imprinted with instrumental sensitivity and virtuosity, consisted in Béla Bartók's Violin Rhapsody No.1, Sz.87, Johannes Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 1, Op. 78, and Edvard Grieg's Violin Sonata No. 3, Op. 45.
The creativity of the two artists, their outstanding technique, the synchronization and homogeneity of their performance gave unicity to the event. Eszter's interpretation, highlighted in a subtle, though dynamic, manner Bartók's folk inspired composition, Brahms' nostalgia and Grieg's energy. Asaf's talent completed the performance with an exquisite and truly original mastery of piano keys. Together, the two interpreters created a magical moment that was naturally conveyed to the captivated audience.

THE UNIVERSITY DAY AT THE FACULTY OF
MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE
The University Day represented a great opportunity to invite partners from the economic environment to meet and talk to members of academia, and especially with undergraduate students, about topics of mutual interest.
On 2 March, under the aegis of our University, the Technology and Business Incubator (ITA‐PROENERG) organized the event “On Entrepreneurship in the University”. The aim of the event was to offer students the opportunity to talk face‐to‐face with young local entrepreneurs, but also to attend presentations on topics related to financing businesses (Ionuţ Taţa – Iceberg), education and entrepreneurial thinking (Ioana Bran, Petrişor Costin – Ascendis), the experience of incubating a business in the university incubator (Eugeniu Lisnic – Pergolalux), the on‐line promotion of businesses (Ovidiu Bălcăcian – The Pharmacy), and the benefits of accepting a start‐up in a business accelerator (Bogdan Deakz – Bluemind Software).
Graduate and undergraduate students from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Engineering, Sociology and Communication, and Mathematics and Computer Science were able to reflect on such issues as how to be one's own boss, how to start a business, what business opportunities to look for, and also what problems and risks one may be faced with in this case.
The meeting received positive feedback from both parties, and the people present considered that for three hours, they managed to have an interesting dialogue, as students tend to be curious and never lack ideas, and the key‐speakers were very happy to share their professional and personal experiences.

ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE UNIVERSITY
The second edition of the restoration exhibition “The Conservation of Our Cultural Heritage by Raising Awareness and Volunteer Work” was dedicated to the University Day and attracted visitors from the university as well as from the larger local community.
Four actions developed by our graduate and undergraduate students took place. The first two volunteering actions consisted in the restoration of a painted coat rack (retrieved from a German house in Feldioara) and a canoe with one paddle, performed by first and second year students, members of the Antique IL club.
The central area of the exhibition was dedicated to the mobile restoration workshop, during which the students collaborated with high schoolers from Petru Rareş High School in Feldioara in the School, Differently program. The Treasures in the Church's Attic are a series of objects from the St. John the Baptist Orthodox Parish in Feldioara, and include Transylvanian tin
thfrom the 18 century, artefacts for orthodox ritual from the same period, and the “archive” chest of the parish.
The fourth action, called My Braşov, consisted of field research and raising awareness to the importance of our heritage, and to the fact that, the lack of conservation and restoration measures supported by the community and by the local authorities, would eventually lead to the disappearance of many of our communal cultural treasures. The research done by first year master's students enrolled in the Ecodesign and Restoration program contributes to keeping our local community abreast with the situation of the cultural heritage in Braşov.
It is hoped that these actions persuaded the larger public that preserving the cultural heritage is tantamount to preserving and asserting the identity of the local communities. At the same time, they gave participants an opportunity to discover the fascinating story of each of the objects exhibited.

On 1 March, Transilvania University Day, the students of the Faculty of Law visited the Court of Appeal Braşov. Around 35 students chose to celebrate our University Day by attending a meeting with local magistrates, who shared their experience related to the challenges and specificities of a profession in which theory and practice are so closely intertwined.
To better understand the procedural aspects of a trial, students were guided by Judge Daniela Niculeasa, Vice‐president of the Court of Appeal Braşov, and Judge Costel Cristinel Ghigheci, our faculty colleague. This visit afforded the students the opportunity to find out more about the role of legal courts and of the other actors in the penal process, their place in the court room, and the stages of the hearing proceedings.
Students were also invited to the closed session room of the Court of Appeal Braşov to ask the magistrates further questions, but also to draw objective and pertinent conclusions concerning the activity of a court of law, the work load of magistrates and auxiliary staff, the professional ethics they have to observe at all times.
Students felt that the visit to the Court of Appeal Braşov, which is becoming an annual st1 of March tradition at the Faculty of Law, was constructive, motivational, and contributed
towards bringing them closer to the legal reality, giving them the possibility to combine legal theory and practice.

THE UNIVERSITY DAY AT THE FACULTY OF LAW
On the first of a series of five events organised at the Faculty of Sociology and Communication on the occasion of the University Day, the guest speaker was Dr Nicolae Pepene, Director of Brașov County Museum of History. The topic of the discussion was interesting for the participants and the guest's gift for story telling kept the over 70 students spellbound for more than two hours.
The crux of the topic was the very definition of concepts such as Public Relations and personal brand, which were unknown at the time the historian talked about. They were understood from the perspective of the historical character who put them into practice as if she had used a modern communication and public relations manual.
Why are Queen Mary's tumultuous life and her actions good examples of how to set up impactful PR companies and how to construct a strong and relevant personal brand?
“Queen Mary is a spectacular historical character, an especially symbolical presence. She can be thought of not only as a historical personality but also as a historical brand. She stood out by her
unconventional style and by the breaking of stereotypes existing at her time. She had a style which made her well‐known abroad and all of this is proof for the existence of a very strong personal brand. The companies she supported managed to change attitudes, to mould behaviours and educate large masses of people”, said historian Nicolae Pepene.
The popularity of this event is shown by the fact that, after the event, the 10 internships available at the Museum of History were promptly filled by our students.

On 3 March, as part of the event Students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and companies, Preh România S.R.L. proposed a contest of ideas in designing car electrical systems.
Targeted at graduate and undergraduate students at our faculty, the contestants lined up for the start in eight teams of five students each. The contest consisted of two parts: a practical task involving the hardware and software design of rotary electronic selector for a car, followed by an oral presentation of all the solutions adopted by each student team.
In a very dynamic atmosphere, the contestants worked hard for about three hours, the technical conditions being supplied by Preh. The contest combined the competition between teams and the collaboration within each team. The presentations constituted a dialogue between the students who pitched their solutions and the representatives of Preh. At times contributions of students from other teams sometimes turned the dialogue into a debate.
This professional contest can be considered a real success. Our students gained from this experience and the winners earned generous prizes offered by Preh Company.

A PLEA FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH AT THE FACULTY OF LETTERSLike last year, 21 March marked the celebration of the World Poetry Day at the Faculty of
Letters. The keynote idea which set the pace to the event was the view that, among its many functions and purposes, poetry is a social art, a platform for the expression and development of the sense of civic pride.
In this spirit, the organisers chose works by poets persecuted for their ideas and beliefs: Ernesto Cardenal (Nicaragua), Asli Erdogan (Turkey), Amanuel Asrat (Eritrea), Dareen Tatour (Israel), and Liu Xia (China). These poems were translated by master students at the Cultural Innovation program, who also read them to a small but keen audience.
Out of solidarity, nostalgia, and as an homage, the organisers also chose poems by Romanian authors – poems with a more or less explicit social character: Mariana Marin, Andrei Bodiu, Alexandru Mușina, Svetlana Cârstean, and Dan Sociu.
The event concluded with a reading, by poet Romulus Bucur, of poems included in his volume Art of War. The reading ended with a “politically correct poem”, that is, a moment of silence signifying the poet's opposition to any limitations in the freedom of speech in contemporary society.

WORLD POETRY DAY
The fifth edition of Literature goes out to town, an event on every 1 March, on the occasion of Transilvania University Day, has become an ever stronger tradition with each year. Its formula has remained the same: the bookshops in Brașov city centre turn into venues for public lectures of texts written by the Faculty of Letters master students, who are joined by students, alumni, and teaching staff. The program started at the location of Şt. O. Iosif bookshop, where students Amalia Comănescu, Crina Bega, Bianca Buta, Zenaida Rotariu, and Dr Romulus Bucur read excerpts from their poetry. The event went on with prose‐reading from the works in progress by Ruxandra Ivăncescu, Luciana Sima, and Silvia Duţu, at Cărtureşti bookshop, followed by theatre‐reading at Okian bookshop. The texts read by the first year master students belonged to Larisa Andrei, Maria David and Silvia Duţu. Finally, poetry‐reading was resumed at Humanitas bookshop, where the readers were authors Carmen Puchianu, Mihai Ignat, Ioan Şerbu, Alexandru Funieru, and Robert Elekes.

Between 9 March and 9 April, the Multicultural Centre of the university hosted the retrospective exhibition of plastic artist Dan Covătaru, from Iași. Including works created at different stages in the artist's evolution, the exhibition deploys an eclectic array of media (wood, metal, marble) and sources of inspiration (mythical, biblical, rustic). This eclecticism is offset by the artist's consistent interest in spiritual life.
His work seems to be a perpetual attempt to reify the intangible, by casting it into more familiar shapes that would bring the abstract phenomena closer to the human perception. This is particularly manifest in his sculptures, owing to their tridimensionality. But the mimetic ambitions of these sculptures is deliberately curtailed by the artist himself, who chooses to artfully suggest, rather than imperfectly mirror the spiritual. Pieces like Symbol or Apostles, for example, are intended as virtual stand‐ins for the reality they aim to represent, with no ambition to be taken for their referents. This decodes the message of the exhibition, which touches upon the impossible or illusory perfect match between the corporeal nature of the art work and the transcendence of the concept it suggests.

This year's edition of the Dialogues about education organised at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences on the occasion of the celebrations of the University Day had an up‐to‐date topic: What is/isn't education today?
The discussions moderated by Dr Mihaela Voinea were based on the book Fundamental Concepts of Pedagogy: Curriculum Theory and Methodology authored by Mihaela Voinea, Toader Pălășan, Rodica Mariana Niculescu, Ramona Henter, Daniela Popa, Ioana Topală and Oana Alina Bota. Launched on the University Day, this book aims to capitalize on both tradition and innovation by combining the best in classical and modern educational trends.
A special guest of the event, Professor Stan Panțuru, one of the authors of the first edition of the book and a mentor for many of the members of the teaching staff of the faculty, brought up the issue of the approach to education across time.
The guests from the local School Inspectorate were Ms Daniela Buzulescu and Ms Mihaela Zugravu, who emphasised the practical dimension of education as well as the past and present ways to implement it in schools.
Questions from the students indicated the participants' interest for the essence of education today. The answers and the opinions of the speakers led to the conclusion that sound education is and needs to be oriented towards the fundamental values of Truth, Good, and Beauty.

UNIVERSITY DAY AT THE FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATION SCIENCES
It is essential for young people to become aware very early on of the crucial role that accountability plays in the learning process or in the communication between people. This was the premise for the development in 2016 of the Ș.A.H. (CHESS) project aimed at implementing the concept of Developing Partnership through Mentoring for and with students, relying on specific features of the chess game. In a game of chess one can discover a series of qualities and behavioural patterns associated with these characteristics. All the study programs of Faculty of Product Design and Environment are defined and involved in the project through the volunteer work of their students.
On 1 March, the concept of this project was launched on the occasion of our University's Day. The Ș.A.H. team created a friendly, communicative and stimulating environment for students through the “challenges” of a game of chess, by associating it with innovative ideas for behavioural and scientific development. We are proud of what our students have accomplished through hard work and creative energy, and we commend their enthusiasm, commitment, and creativity. The
concept took shape in the form of three open versions of chess boards, made up of reusable materials and created‐designed and implemented by the Ș.A.H. team. The boards are currently available to all students and teachers.

The University Day was celebrated at the Faculty of Civil Engineering with the interactive
meeting The Role of the Graduate Student in the Management Policy of Construction Units in Braşov,
organized in collaboration with three important local companies: ICCO FM, represented by Dieter
Rizea, Andreea Adafinei, Constantin Piri, Alin Coşa, Horia Paşca, Bianca Alupei, Iulian Belaconi,
Francisc Holosi; Stabiplan, represented by Sorin Bolocan; Compania Apa Braşov S.A., represented by
Vlad Asuencei. The turnout consisted of over 150 students and faculty staff. The interactive presentations engaged the students' interest with discussions on the
diversity of challenges on the labour market and with success stories of our faculty's graduate students who hold important positions at specialist firms which they represented at this meeting.
The undergraduate students had the opportunity to gain a clearer insight into the profession of civil engineer and its role within a company.
The participating companies expressed their availability in terms of student internships, technical visits to construction sites, scholarships, mentoring programs, while also showing a real interest in recruiting and employing graduate students.
The representatives of the participant companies appreciated our students' positive feedback, as seen from the comments, discussions, and issues raised during the meeting.
This celebratory event was successful in more ways than one. Most importantly, it allowed our students to connect with university alumni who nowadays hold key positions with local companies, and who can take on an active role in guiding the undergraduate students on their career path.

ERASMUS WELCOME MEETING AT THE UNIVERSITY'S MULTICULTURAL CENTREAt the beginning of the second semester, on 2 March, the Erasmus+ Office organized an
orientation meeting with the incoming students from countries within the European Union, as well as
from partner countries such as Morocco, Russia, USA, Argentina, and Sri Lanka.
The incoming students were briefed on the organizational structure, learning and
accommodation facilities, and student life at Transilvania University. The information packs handed
to the participants also contained useful information about our local culture and the specificities of
our geographic area. As some of the incoming students admitted, choosing our university as their
host university was determined, on the one hand, by the match between the study programs at their
home universities and those provided at Transilvania University, and by the tourist attractiveness of
Brașov County, on the other. These two factors are fully in line with the spirit of the Erasmus+
experience: broadening the students' professional abilities by affording them study abroad
opportunities, and developing their intercultural competence by immersion in other cultures and
contact with other countries.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of Erasmus Student Network, an organization supporting foreign students,
maximizing, through the events they organize, the success of their stay with us.

Between 15 and 17 March, Columbia University in New York, USA, was the venue for the International Conference on Remote Engineering and
thVirtual Instrumentation (REV‐2017). This 14 edition of the conference brought together over 100 specialists from universities and companies around the world, such as CYPRESS, National Instruments, and Phoenix Contact.
Initiated by our university (which also played host to the 2005 and 2011 conferences) the event has been organized yearly, since 2004, under the aegis of the International Association of Online Engineering (IAOE), and is designed as an itinerant conference, allowing for local communities to participate easily, presenting their findings and results to a competent audience. From Australia and North America, next year the conference will return to Europe, at the University of Düsseldorf (Germany), and in two years' time, the University of Bangalore (India) will host the event. For the 2020 edition, two candidates were announced: McMaster University in Hamilton, (Canada), and Qatar University. In parallel with the conference papers, there was also a meeting of the IAOE Executive Forum, with the purpose of filling the vacancies in the executive structure of the organization.
Owing to the papers selected and presented, the conference reached its goal of becoming a barometer for the applications in the field of virtual instrumentation and remote engineering, if we take into account that these types of services are growing more and more useful. The conference papers will be published by the prominent and reputable Springer publishing house.

Two activities were developed at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering in celebration of the University Day.
One consisted in a professional exchange between undergraduate students from two study programs ‐ Materials Science and, respectively, Materials and Welding Engineering ‐ who visited their two research centres within the university's Research and Development Institute, Advanced Technologies and Materials‐Ceramics, Metals, and MMC Composites, and Advanced Welding eco Technologies.
The exchange consisted in a brief introduction to the research infrastructure of the two centres, among which the rapid prototyping apparatus 3D Systems Selective Laser Sintering, sintering and heat treatment furnaces, hardness testers, the nanomaterials analysis platform CSM Instruments, and various welding technologies. Part of the exchange was a demonstration of the different operation of the equipment and welding techniques that each group of students gave, with help from their tutors, for the benefit of the other.
The second activity was a meeting with teaching staff at the Faculty of Materials Engineering aimed at analysing the students' performance. During this meeting, the Dean presented data regarding the Faculty's status, with emphasis on the students' results. The meeting concluded with an open dialogue about ways to improve the students' performance, as well as some proposals of actions meant to reduce school dropout rates, especially among first and second year students.

On 21 March students at our university met with Tudor Chirilă, in an event organized in partnership with Computer Generated Solutions Company. Titled How I self‐scouted. Stories of myself, about you, this meeting is part of a tour that the artist takes at universities around the country.
A complex artist, Tudor Chirilă is an actor, singer, composer and producer. He took his first steps on the musical stage as a founding member of the well‐known band Vama Veche, produced the first rock opera and, during his two‐decade long career, wrote and co‐wrote over 80 songs. As an actor, he performed in 14 stage plays and became the youngest awardee of the UNITER prize in 2004.
During his meeting with the students, the artist shared some of the experiences that shaped his musical, theatrical and film career and graciously answered the host of questions that our students, on their way to embark upon their respective careers, asked him. As expected, the meeting concluded with an autograph session.

On 25 March, APPARATUS promoters and the university's Multicultural Centre organized a
meeting with photographers Petruț and Ioana Călinescu who introduced the public to three of their
projects: Black Sea Stories, Periferia B (Periphery B) and Mândrie și beton (Pride and Concrete).
Whether they document the aftermath of the tourist industry on the Romanian coast (Black
Sea Stories), the microuniverses intersecting on the outskirts of Bucharest (Periferia B) or the
changes that rural communities undergo nowadays (Mândrie și beton), these projects bear the clear
marks of a genuine understanding of the worlds they portray. Black Sea Stories allows a glimpse into
the post‐communist consumerism in the countries bordering the Black Sea Coast and the uncanny
similarities in the tourist offers, irrespective of the place from which they originate: Romania,
Ukraine, Bulgaria, or Turkey. Periferia B is an inroad into what appears to be “a fluctuating,
unstructured space, a perpetually changing no man's land moving outwardly, as the city develops.”
But perhaps the most sizable project is Mândrie și beton, which also shows the highest degree of
empathy with the communities depicted, whose propensity for the unabashed display of wealth ‐ as depicted in the extravagant houses
erected by people in their home villages – is captured by the two photographers without irony or prejudice.

For the last four years the Student Show has been present on the local TV station Nova, every Tuesday at 5 p.m. Each show has been the result of the joined efforts of a team of students from different faculties of our universities, whose main assets are their commitment and high motivation.
The Student Show project relies on the commitment of each of its team members. While we may have different ideas and aspirations, what brings us together is the passion for this show. In brief, a TV show involves reporters and cameramen doing fieldwork, image editors dealing with the aesthetics of the materials which are then broadcast from the TV studio, reaching the homes of our peers every week. The ingredients of a job well done are passion, commitment, the awareness that lessons can be learned from the occasional mistakes, the drive to be the best.

THE FACULTY OF FOOD AND TOURISM AT TRANSILVANIA TOURISM FAIR 2017Between 17 and 19 March, the Faculty of Food and Tourism took part in Transilvania Tourism
Fair 2017, the regional tourism fair organized this year at Brașov.
The students of our faculty, under the supervision of Lady Chef Cornelia Ghişoi, baked
cookies. Adopting a novel approach to promoting our faculty, messages containing tourist
information were inserted in each finished product and, voilà, the Faculty Fortune Cookie was born,
properly wrapped and labelled. Judging by the repeated requests for the recipe, the fortune cookies
were delicious and the little messages they contained clearly made an impact.
This initiative promoted the current study programs at the Faculty of Food and Tourism, but
also the new master program “Hospitality Management and Eco‐Agro‐Tourism”, due to start as of the
next academic year, 2017‐2018.
During the fair, the students analysed the other participants' offers, took part in
demonstrations where they learnt about the art of wine tasting, and attended the Workshop
“European Braşov”, listening to relevant and interesting presentations.
Our faculty's stand was also visited by tourism professionals, who discussed with our students, offering them advice, as well as
by representatives of companies in the field of tourism, who expressed their desire and availability to help train our students through
internship programs. As a result, our faculty concluded several partnership and internship agreements for student training.

Mona Lazăr is a 2008 graduate of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences. As student, in 2007 she benefited from an Erasmus scholarship at the University of Ghent, Belgium. In the period 2009‐2011 she attended a Master program in Labour, Organizational and Economic Psychology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She was an intern in human resources with highly‐ranked companies: UCB Pharma, Korn Ferry International, after which she worked as human resources specialist for a small Belgian company.
In the following 3 years she worked as a headhunter at MasterCard European Centre. Her interest in the particularities of professional adaptation of women managers in organizations reflected in the research for the bachelor's and the master's theses and were duly applied in her professional tasks: she hired women in 'technical' positions, which is quite difficult even in the Western companies.
Since 2012 she has been working for Real Impact Analytics, an international Belgian company, where she began as 'global recruiter', recruiting candidates from Europe, South America, South Africa and Asia. Her professional role has become more complex with the addition of new responsibilities: performance management, internal career management, coaching and mentoring programs.
In her professional capacity, Mona Lazăr makes full use of the knowledge gained at the University, including that in the field of advanced statistics whose utility has been confirmed by the requirements of professional practice.
