Mishra, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development. The Session was moderated by Shri M.K. Sinha, OSD (UT), Ministry of Urban Development. Mr. Elias George, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd., presented a paper on Multi-Model integration, smart mobility card and Public Private Partnership in Metro Projects particularly in respect of Kochi Metro. A Presentation on Innovations in Climate Resilience and Technology was made by Shri Mangu Singh, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Dr. Roger Allport from Imperial College London discussed about the Operator’s Story regarding innovative funding and financing. Shri M. Naveen Kumar, Director Finance, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., also discussed about innovative financing through debt instruments. Mr. Gerald Ollivier, from the World Bank highlighted on the international experience in innovation in Metro Rail. 7 Technical Sessions were organized under the theme of Greater Accessibility. One of the Technical Sessions on Transport Modeling was coordinated by PTV Group of Companies which deliberated on PTV Visum 15, PTV Vissim 8 and PTV Vissim Mesoscopic Simulation taking a case study of integrated transport planning of national highway. The other 6 Technical Sessions deliberated on the following themes: (i) Land Use Transport Integration for liveable cities, Chaired by Mr. S.K. Lohia, CEO, Indian Railways Stations Development Corporation; (ii) Designing Streets for Citizens, Chaired by Shri Shashi Verma, Director Communication, Transport for London (TfL); (iii) Traffic Engineering (coordinated by PTV Group; (iv) Buses in Cities: New Challenges, New Solutions, Chaired by Dr. M. Ramachandran, Former Secretary, MoUD; (v) Urban Rail Transportation- Shaping the future Cities, Chaired by Shri M. K. Sinha, OSD (UT) &E.O. J.S., MoUD and (vi) Real Time Traffic Modeling (coordinated by PTV Group). In these Sessions, transit oriented development guidelines formulated by the UTTIPEC, Delhi Development Authority, new land use options after building cable trans- port in Latin American cities, land use policies and land transport indicators suggested in Low Carbon Mobility Plan for Rajkot were discussed under land use transport integration. As part of designing streets for citizens role of E-rickshaws, non-motorized transport are important elements of urban roads, street design with people etc. were covered. Cont...page2

The Session was moderated by Shri M.K. Sinha, OSD (UT), Ministry of Urban Development. Traffic Engineering included modeling network accessibility and operational efficiency of public bus operations in Bangalore, use of micro simulation for optimization of road alignment and junction control, multilevel car parking using vissim etc. Integration of the Bus Service with other public transport modes and networks, promot-ing sustainable public-private partnership model in city bus service, improving the quality and image of bus service were some of the areas discussed as part of city bus service. MRTS planning, revival of LRT, smart commute technology, national common mobility card were discussed under urban rail transport theme. PTV group discussed real time traffic modeling.

Round Table Discussions2 Round Table discussions were organized under the theme (i) Disabled Friendly Transport (supported by CBM) and Chaired by Mr. Mukesh Jain, J.S., Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and (ii) Enabling Rural Public Transport (supported by UMTC) and Chaired by Shri Rajesh Bhushan, JS (RC) & Director General, NRRDA, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

Research Symposium3 Research Symposium were organized namely on (i) Public Transportation, Chaired by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Professor, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi; (ii) Pedestrians, Gender and Mode Choice in Transport, Chaired by Dr. P.K. Sarkar, Head of Department (Transport Planning), School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and (iii) Multi-Modal Integration in Urban Transport, Chaired by Dr. Vinay Maitri, Professor, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. In Research Sympo-siums Postgraduate and PhD Students presented their research papers on specific areas of urban transport which were reviewed by the expert reviewers.

Transport Quiz Competition:A quiz competition for the delegates was also organized during the Tea/Coffee Break where the delegates participated actively and tested their general knowledge on various aspects of transport planning. This was an interesting event and was received well.

SPECIAL SESSION FOR MAYORSA special Session for Mayors on Smart Mobility Solutions in cities was organized on 24th November, 2015 immediately after the inaugural function of the Conference. The Session was Chaired by Hon’ble Minister of State for Urban Development & Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviations. About 20 Mayors and Chief Elective Officers along with other Senior Officers of City Corporations participated in the Special Session. In this Session four presentations from Adelaide (Australia), Karnal (Haryana), South Delhi Municipal Corporation and Indore (M.P.) were made highlighting the smart initiatives taken up by them in improving the mobility situation in their respective cities. Additional Secretary, Urban Development indicated policy initiatives taken up by the Ministry of Urban Development with regard to sustainable and smart trans-port system. Concluding the Session Hon’ble Minister emphasized on development of non-motorized transport infrastructure including walkways and cycle tracks on priority basis in the cities integrating well with the Public Transport System.
