Our mission

We are innovators.

We are industry-leaders.

We are trusted partners.

We are award winners.

We are proud to be different.

Through our work, we have helped to raise over 350,000 people out of fuel poverty. The technologies we have deployed and managed are generating over 1GW of renewable energy and 1.25 million tonnes of CO2 has been saved.

That’s what we call amazing energy.

Our mission is simple - to help customers realise the full commercial potential of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

Our historyWe entered the renewables industry to lead it, with an ambitious growth strategy and a deep understanding of legal, commercial and legislative landscapes.

Our focus has always been to provide commercially-viable models that enable our customers to generate long term revenue streams. This has seen us regularly attain an IRR of between 8-12% for our investors and partners.

Less than a year after being incorporated, we were awarded a contract to construct the largest solar farm in Dorset.

Since then, sustained growth has been the result of our global approach to innovation and we have consistently been first to market with new technologies.

In September 2014, we made history by connecting the UK’s first utility scale battery storage unit. Six months later we installed the largest optimised solar farm in Europe.

By March 2017, we had constructed a milestone 101 solar farms, which between them generate over 480MW of renewable energy.

By the end of 2018, we are aiming to deliver 185MW of energy storage, creating the largest portfolio of energy storage in the UK.

We’re proud to think differently. From humble beginnings, back in 2010, we have grown to become one of the top 100 cleantech companies in the world.

Between the years 2004 and 2015, global investment in renewables totalled $2.3 trillion.

Energy storage

At Anesco, we have long understood the potential of energy storage. This saw us install the UK’s first utility scale unit back in September 2014.

By March 2017, we had connected units totalling 19MW and by the end of 2018 our target is to exceed 185MW.

We continue to lead the way in demonstrating to investors the commercial value of energy storage. We have achieved this after effectively examining revenue stacks to find the optimum balance of future revenue streams, versus the upfront investment required. This puts us in a great position to capitalise on opportunities within this emerging market.

Energy storage is set to play a major role in the global energy mix of the future. Its popularity continues to soar, as territories including the US, China and countries across Europe look to benefit from the technology.

There are multiple revenue streams available for energy storage, with new opportunities emerging regularly.

At a national level, National Grid makes payments for FFR, (Fast Frequency Response) and via the capacity mechanism, to balance supply and demand. While at a regional level, Distribution Network Organisations (DNOs) plan to start using energy storage to alleviate local bottlenecks.

The UK government has recognised that the future usage, volume and mix of energy will require innovation, if the country is to maintain a secure energy supply. Time is ticking on the UK’s current generation fleet, with many coming to the end of their operational life in the next 10-15 years.

Decentralised storage and demand side response has been highlighted by the UK energy regulator and National Grid as strategically important, with the latter forecasting

anything up to 18GW of storage being installed in the UK by 2040.

As energy storage units are flexible and have many capabilities, they are able to support National Grid in many ways.

As the UK market leader in energy storage, Anesco is currently undertaking a programme to retrofit batteries onto existing sites, as well as identifying opportunities to connect batteries to new sites.

We are leading the way and are in a strong position to take advantage of all opportunities provided by National Grid, as they increase the balancing service contracts available to storage asset owners.

Solar PV

From designing and building some of the country’s largest solar farms, to managing the design, planning and installation of bespoke rooftop installations, our specialist team has overseen many of the UK’s most complex solar PV projects.

With a solar farm portfolio exceeding 100 sites, which are generating more than 480MW of renewable energy, we continue to introduce new models of working that support our customers to capitalise on all commercial opportunities in this area.

Anesco is one of the only service providers able to offer a complete, end-to-end solution, from development to construction and the ongoing maintenance of sites.

Up to 60% of solar energy doesn’t make it through the Earth’s atmosphere. Space-based solar power systems could be the future, converting solar energy into microwaves that are beamed down to power stations.

The UK government has set a target for 15% of UK energy consumption to come from renewable sources by 2020. As an incentive to encourage a reduction in reliance on fossil fuels, Feed In Tariff (FiTs) payments are made for energy that is generated from a renewable source and fed back into the National Grid. Solar PV presents a tried and tested opportunity for tapping into these revenue streams.

Every site is different and requires its own unique solution. We maintain complete control of every installation, from planning and feasibility, through to analysis, project finance, construction and grid connection.

Once complete, our in-house monitoring and maintenance service, AnescoMeter, ensures each site continues to operate at its optimum capacity for the duration of the contract. The service is currently monitoring 21,500 assets, which are generating 700MW of energy.

At the end of the agreed contract, the landowner will then inherit the solar installation, at no further charge to themselves. The solar technology will still be a viable economic prospect, as warranties on the equipment ensure that the solar panels continue to operate with at least 80% efficiency when they are 20 years old.

An end-to-end solution This stands us apart from any other single company operating in the market today. Offering a turnkey solution enables us to maintain industry leading margins.

Market leading O&M service An operation and maintenance contract of between 20 and 40 years. This is provided by our inhouse AnescoMeter platform, which works to protect the revenues being generated.

Industry experience Having installed more than 480MW of solar PV, Anesco has built vast amounts of experience and proprietary internal IP, in every area of the process.

Purchasing power We realise significant economies of scale through directly sourcing supplies, such as solar panels. With large projects requiring 10,000 to 50,000 solar panels, we save on project costs, positively impacting on both viability and margins.

The AnescoMeter system transmits information from a renewable asset back to our national operations centre. The software diagnoses the incident, which is then reviewed as appropriate by our Technical Analyst team. Our Service Desk will then drive activity as appropriate, utilising our national network of local engineers. By monitoring assets in this way and identifying any discrepancies in output, we can ensure issues are quickly remedied. This means the system remains fully optimised and minimises potential loss in revenue.

Customers are given access to detailed reports and a full range of reporting functions, including performance, carbon savings, income generated and a record of any faults logged and action that has been taken, which can be available on the AnescoMeter App.

Contract types can be tailored to suit individual needs. An AnescoMeter O&M contract will last for the duration it is needed, which in some cases may be between 20 and 40 years.

To date, we have achieved £330m in energy savings and helped raise over 350,000 people out of fuel poverty.

£330m

This has also seen a reduction in carbon emissions of 1.25 million tonnes.

1.25m

Under their ECO obligations, energy suppliers are required to deliver a range of energy saving measures. These measures are designed to reduce the carbon emissions and energy expenditure of a property.

Each energy supplier has individual targets that must be met, or they face being handed a substantial fine.

These targets are based on their share of the domestic gas and electricity market.

Measures covered by the scheme, include:

• Cavity wall insulation• Loft insulation • External wall insulation • Efficient gas boilers• Heating controls • Non-gas (oil boilers, storage heaters etc) heating measures

Anesco’s ECO team acts as a managing agent to help energy suppliers meet the legal obligation of the scheme, as set out by the regulator OFGEM.

To date, we have achieved £330m in lifetime energy savings and helped raise over 350,000 people out of fuel poverty.

This has also seen a reduction in carbon emissions of 1.25 million tonnes.

Commercial & IndustrialAnesco was one of the first companies in the UK to take a holistic approach to energy efficiency, which focuses on the entire operation of an organisation. It is a model of working that is already well-established in the US and Europe.

This has seen us helping businesses and organisations across a range of different industries, to successfully reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions, while improving the efficiency of commercial buildings and housing stock, replacing end-of-life assets and reducing maintenance costs.

Our industry-leading team is experienced in working with all renewable technologies and energy efficiency measures, which puts us in a unique position. Whether it’s one property, or numerous buildings and facilities spread across multiple sites, we can effectively assess, design and install the upgrades which will achieve the greatest potential benefit.

For any business where energy costs make up a significant proportion of expenditure, the advantages can be significant.

They include:

• Reduced energy expenditure• Improved carbon footprint

• Replacing assets reaching end of life

• Reduced maintenance costs

• Improved long term energy efficiency

• Help meeting standards and other issues of compliance

• Support for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) targets

Investments in renewable energy reached nearly $286 billion in 2015 while, for the first time, more than half of all added power generation capacity came from renewables.

The process begins with a thorough examination of current energy use and expenditure.

Following a free initial site visit to discuss a customer’s priorities and the production of an introductory report, a comprehensive energy audit may then be undertaken.

This will look at the whole operation of the organisation - covering everything from housing stock to community buildings, car parks, offices and other facilities.

After seeing how energy is currently being used, calculations will be made to assess the feasibility of potential upgrades, including associated costs, savings and potential payback periods. Such measures may include upgrades to infrastructure, such as lighting, insulation and environmental controls, through to the installation of onsite generation facilities, such as solar PV.

There are then several funding routes available for taking the project forward, including our fully funded scheme. We will advise customers on all the options, including potential payback periods and any incentives that may be available, enabling them to make the best choice for their individual circumstances.

Anesco has successfully completed a number of complex, multi-technology, multi-site energy efficiency projects of this nature.

This has seen us working with many leading brand names, including: Whitbread and its chain of Premier Inn hotels, The Bannatyne Group and Aviva, as well as many local authorities and other private organisations.

Our engineers will visit each site to ascertain the feasibility of an installation and the best possible positioning of the EV points. This will include a site survey to assess all power routes. If a new DNO connection is required, then we will request a quote and manage this process. A full design of each scheme will then be made available, with all planning permission handled by us if needed.

As we are highly experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of planning and environmental consents, we offer a streamlined installation process that is carried out by highly qualified and experienced engineers. All ongoing maintenance is also handled by our team for the lifetime of the project.
