▪ Complete fleet replacement in £1.4 billion programme

– Biggest investment in trains in East Anglia ever

▪ 1,043 new carriages

– 665 Bombardier, 378 Stadler

▪ Service frequency improvements

– +1,144 trains / week

Better frequency, connectivity, journey times & capacity

▪ More frequent trains

– Southend to London (4/hr off peak), Norwich to London (3/hr off

peak), Ipswich to Peterborough doubled, more services to

Hertford East

▪ Direct Norwich to Stansted Airport and Lowestoft to

London services (four direct trains each way)

▪ Faster journeys

– Aiming for up to 5% - 10% reductions wherever practical

▪ Additional capacity

– 12 x class 317 and 6 x class 321 in 2017. More capacity again -

50%+ morning peak seats – with new trains

– Bi-mode trains mean more trains and more carriages (all 3 & 4

carriages) for our regional routes

▪ Targeting 93% PPM by end of franchise

▪ Over £5m in fleet reliability initiatives

▪ New performance management roles

▪ Enhanced alliance with Network Rail

▪ New joint performance teams with:

– Network Rail, TfL and Freight

▪ £120m investment in upgrades for Norwich

Crown Point and llford, plus a new depot at

Brantham, near Manningtree

▪ 20 extra trains in service early - from May 2017

▪ 100,000 extra seats provided a week

▪ Train refresh programmes for electric (317, 321,

360) and diesel units (170) underway

▪ First 4 of 30 fully refurbished 321s in service

▪ Intercity trains wi-fi upgraded and other electric

trains start to be fitted with wi-fi early in 2018

▪ Better autumn reliability – very successful class

156 diesel wheel slip protection initiative

▪ Overall performance slightly improved

▪ Station upgrades at Cambridge, Ipswich, London

▪ Cambridge North opened

▪ Funding tripled for Community Rail Partnerships

▪ Integrated Transport Forum, Stakeholder Advisory

Board and Stakeholder Equality Board launched

▪ New trains project on course and progressing well

▪ Very successful public and stakeholder

consultation on train design and layout

▪ Stadler fleet starting construction (longer lead

time), Bombardier start after final designs agreed

at the end of November

▪ New depot at Brantham, near Manningtree,

upgrades for Norwich Crown Point and llford

▪ Other infrastructure upgrades on target

▪ Looking forward to our new trains in 2019/2020

route, transforming customers’ journeys

▪ Massive capacity and quality upgrade for rural and

branch line services

▪ More comfortable trains, more seats, wi-fi, plug points

and air conditioning.

▪ Timetable improvements – more trains on some routes,

better connections, some new direct services and

quicker journey times.

▪ More reliable and more resilient – only three types of

train (compared to eight now)

▪ Station facilities, ticketing, compensations, integrated

transport improving in parallel

▪ Bombardier 5-car unit has 544 seats (321 has c280)

or 170 seats on new trains v 186/138/119 now

▪ Felixstowe line capacity – 170 seats v 69

▪ Sudbury line capacity – 170 seats v 138 (69 w/ends)

Looking to the future

Key opportunities (1)…we must make this happen!

▪ Will be the only operator to have an entire new fleet
