Are you ready to embark on a courageous journey?
At Naropa University, we invite you to uncover your authentic self.
Through a unique blend of rigorous academic study, artistic and
contemplative practices, and service to the community, you’ll learn
in a way that encourages you to look within, as well as without,
to discover what truly matters.
A profound understanding of who you are and how you want
to make a difference in the world prepares you for a meaningful
career and a passionate life. Naropa’s educational experience
develops open hearts and open minds. We believe a great
intellect combined with a fearless heart creates a powerful
catalyst for change in the world: you.
Open your mind and heart
At Naropa, you not only engage with subjects in a scholarly way, there is also an integration of
that learning into your body,
heart, and spirit. It’s not only
transformative for me but also
in its implications for taking that
work into the greater world.”
—Rebecca Interdisciplinary Studies San Francisco, California
“
Naropa University will support your growth and self-discovery in a contemplative atmosphere
rooted in Buddhist-inspired principles. As you engage in contemplative practices—sitting meditation, t’ai
chi, yoga, aikido, and Chinese brushstroke—your educational experience will deepen. In this way, Naropa
offers a ground for your personal transformation. Naropa’s collaborative and dynamic environment invites
you to shine through as yourself.
Every step of the way Naropa provides resources to help you acclimate to the contemplative life, even if
you are new to it. The Contemplative Learning Seminar introduces you to Naropa’s educational and
contemplative heritage. The Naropa Chaplaincy Project and the contemplative practice coordinator offer
diverse religious support.
Through your classes and the supportive Naropa community, you’ll explore how contemplative practices
foster your intellectual, artistic, and personal growth.
Deepen your self-understanding
Satisfying one’s intellectual curiosityis a wonderful thing, but discovering
how what I have learned applies to
the world is even more important.”

Naropa’s experiential nature allows learning to be something that is constantly created.
“
It fosters perpetual play with new forms of awareness where the self and whole are mutually benefitted.”
—Jeanine M. Canty, PhD Core Faculty and Chair, Environmental Studies
Becoming educated is about more than gathering facts; it’s about gaining perspective and
exploring who you are. At Naropa, learning entails acquiring skills and challenging your intellect through
academics while examining life experiences and uncovering wisdom through the arts and contemplative
practice. Grounded in Naropa’s mission, the core curriculum introduces you to the central values of
contemplative education, giving you the skills necessary for success in your chosen field of study.
Among the few required core seminars, are the Diversity Seminar, which awakens a greater understanding
of yourself and others in a diverse world, and the Civic Engagement Seminar, where in your second year,
you’ll integrate your learning with service to the Boulder community.
You’ll explore a variety of modes of inquiry and practice in the core areas of study, including one course
(3 credits) in each of the following areas: Artistic Process, Body-Mind Practice, Cultural & Historical Studies,
Scientific Inquiry and World Wisdom Traditions.

Naropa University recognizes that education at a private institution is an expensive undertaking, but don’t
let limited financial resources exclude you from what Naropa has to offer. The university supports economic
diversity among its student body. Approximately 70 percent of Naropa degree students receive financial
assistance in the form of loans, student employment, scholarships, assistantships, and grants. If you’re an
international student, you’re eligible for all forms of aid except federal grants and loans.
New students are strongly encouraged to submit the FAFSA to the federal processors by March 1; however,
late applications for new students will be considered for all forms of aid. Applicants for spring semester should
submit the FAFSA by October 1.

Whether you’re an arts aficionado, a spiritual practitioner, an outdoor enthusiast, or a
foodie, the city of Boulder has something for you. The 100,000-person-strong community, located on the
Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, is both progressive and eclectic.
On campus and off, you’ll find poetry readings, music, dance, theatrical performances, and visual arts.
Outside magazine calls Boulder the “best all-around town” for outdoor experience because it’s a great
jumping-off point to Colorado’s bountiful natural resources, where you can enjoy hiking, climbing, skiing,
snowboarding, cycling, kayaking, and more. Boulder has preserved many acres of open space and offers
130 miles of bicycle/pedestrian trails. With your RTD Eco Pass, you’ll travel for free on regional bus
routes, including passage to Denver (and Denver International Airport) and the Eldora ski resort. Boulder
restaurants feature cuisine from every corner of the earth. Organic establishments boast “farm to table”
food, and several natural food companies call Boulder County home. Downtown Boulder’s Pearl Street
Mall is a pedestrian’s dream, with a variety of shopping and nightlife offerings and the area’s best people-
watching opportunities. Denver is about forty minutes away by car.
