Welcome to Texas State.
We Have a Place for You If you’re like most people, the first thing you’ll notice about Texas State is
our beautiful campus — trees everywhere, the alluring Texas Hill Country
and the spring-fed San Marcos River running through campus. Stay a while and you’ll notice our students — hear their buzz
of activity on the Quad, spot them reading by the river at
Sewell Park and see their friendly faces wherever you go. Talk to our students, and you’ll hear about one of the many attributes
that set Texas State apart — our faculty. Over and over, students
discuss the stimulating classes and the friendly
and accessible professors they discover here. We have a place for you. Texas State welcomes an average of
3,000 transfer students each fall. These students come from a
range of colleges and universities, but when they arrive on
campus, they join the Texas State community. If you’re
interested in transferring to Texas State, we invite you to apply.

Find your way to us, and we will help you find your way.
Best of Both Worlds With 101 bachelor’s, 88 master’s and eight doctoral degree programs,
Texas State offers all the advantages of a large university. But don’t think
you’ll get lost in the shuffle. Your professors will go out of their way to
help you succeed, much like you’d expect to find in a smaller college.
Texas State ranks second in the state for the number of faculty members
who have been honored as Piper Professors for superior teaching, with
17 having received this prestigious honor. An Outstanding Education At Texas State, you’ll find quality. Here are just a few of the reasons
more and more high-achieving students are choosing Texas State: • Texas State was founded as a teachers college in 1899, and more
than a century later we’ve remained true to that commitment to
producing the highest-quality educators. The Association of
Teacher Educators has recognized our teacher preparation
program as one of the top three in the United States.
• The National Council for Geographic Education’s Journal of
Geography recognized our undergraduate program in geography as
the best in the nation. Because of its stellar reputation, our
Department of Geography is the largest in the United States.
• We were the only Texas school on the list when Graphic Design
USA magazine named the 29 “Select Top U.S. Graphic Design
Schools.” Others honored were renowned private
art and design schools, including Parsons and the
Ringling College of Art and Design. 2 | Transferring to Texas State University-San Marcos

• Texas State’s College of Health Professions is one of only a few
in the United States that has achieved national accreditation for
degree programs ranging from bachelor’s to doctoral.
• Our McCoy College of Business Administration is among the
small number of business schools accredited by AACSB
International - The Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business.
• Our School of Music’s sound recording technology
program, housed in the historic Fire Station
Studios, offers the only bachelor’s degree in sound
recording in the Southwestern United States. University Honors Program The University Honors Program at Texas State offers you the chance to
take charge of your own education and seek your own intellectual
challenges. Through this program, you can enjoy small, stimulating
classes taught by innovative master teacher-scholars. As an honors
student, you can pursue independent projects or cutting-edge research
and produce an honors thesis on the subject of your choice. Benefits of the University Honors Program
• outstanding faculty committed to working closely with you
• personal advising for developing college and career plans
• early registration for courses • challenging honors courses that will get
you excited about learning
• participation in activities at Honors Councils and the University
Honors Student Association
• special scholarships available only to qualified honors students
• access to the honors study lounge and the honors
coffee forum featuring rotating art exhibits Our Growing Campus Texas State University-San Marcos is as diverse as the students who
live and learn here. Our hilly campus is home to 225 buildings. Some,
like Old Main, are almost as old as the university itself. Others are
cutting-edge facilities, such as McCoy Hall’s T. Paul Bulmahn
Research and Trading Laboratory and the Mitte Complex, which
contains a high-tech clean room and microchip fabrication lab. We completed a dramatic expansion of our Student Recreation Center in
2009. The 96,000-square-foot center features two pools, cardiovascular
and weight lifting areas, a rock-climbing wall with a bouldering area, eight
full-court basketball and volleyball courts, two indoor soccer courts, a
boxing area and more. You can also take any of the classes offered seven
days a week, including step aerobics, yoga, Powerflex, kickboxing and
indoor cycling. Personal training, nutritional counseling and massage
therapy are available by appointment.
New construction at Bobcat Stadium has added a
three-tiered expansion on the stadium’s west side that
features a premium club seating level with 450 open-
air seats and a suite level with 15 luxury suites.

If you’re interested in transferring to Texas State, we invite you to apply.
There’s Plenty to Do You’ll find plenty of opportunities to get involved in campus life at Texas
State. There are nearly 300 student organizations on campus, plus
intramural sports, sport clubs ranging from rugby to rodeo, an Outdoor Center and 16 intercollegiate sports teams. Our Bobcat football, baseball and softball teams play
in newly renovated venues, and our basketball teams
play in the 7,200-seat Strahan Coliseum.
Downtown San Marcos is just a stroll away from the campus.
You’ll find shops, restaurants and live music venues around the
charming courthouse square. And the best shopping in Texas is
just south of town at the San Marcos outlet malls. With Austin just
30 miles to the north and San Antonio 50 miles to the south, San
Marcos may just be the best location in Texas.

After you have submitted your application, transcript(s) and fee,
Texas State’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions will prepare a
course evaluation. You will receive this evaluation of your
transfer work, along with an admission decision, approximately
three weeks after the Admissions Office has received all of your
admission documents. During peak periods, this may take longer. Admission Evaluation Standards Grades earned in transferable courses are also transferred. • Grades of A, B, C, D and F are calculated as recorded. • Grades of D and F do transfer. • Grades of WF and I are computed as F’s. • Nonpunitive grades, such as W or P, are not used
for admission or GPA purposes. • Remedial, technical or vocational courses do not transfer. • The original grade in a repeated course is not used for
GPA calculations; all subsequent repeats are calculated. • A maximum of 66 hours from accredited two-year
colleges may be applied toward a degree. • Associate degrees do not transfer, only transferable
credits. A course-by-course evaluation is done to
determine which courses will transfer.

halls. All rooms are furnished and include cable,
phone and high-speed Internet connections. Texas State also offers on-campus apartments that give students
the convenience of a residence hall while providing the privacy of
an off-campus apartment. See www.reslife.txstate.edu. 8 | Transferring to Texas State University-San Marcos
