TRANSCRIPT An apple a day” http://www.podcastsinenglish.com/listen/level2/health.mp3 Jackie: For this week’s podcastsinenglish.com I’m going to be speaking to Dr Adam Macmillan, is that right? Dr Adam: Yes, it is. Hello. Jackie: I’m going to ask you some questions, some health questions – general myths that people have about um… health, and I want you to tell me whether or not these are true or not. Dr Adam: Fire away. Jackie: Ok, the first thing I want to ask you is - is it true that it’s dangerous to swim after eating? Dr Adam: No, it’s not. The worst thing you can get is a pain in your side. Then the best thing to do is just get out of the water. Jackie: Ok, so it’s possible to go swimming straight after eating, then? Dr Adam: Oh yes. Jackie: Fantastic, Ok. Number two, I’m not sure about this one, but people do say that carrots can help you see in the dark? Is that true? Dr Adam: No, but carrots and some other fruits and vegetables, like tomatoes or spinach, contain beta-carotene. The body then converts this to um… vitamin A which is very good for healthy eyes but not to see in the dark. Jackie: Ok, I thought that might be true. And what about the thing that everyone says – that you only use ten percent of your brain? You’re laughing! Dr Adam: [laughs] Which ten percent? No, untrue. Jackie: Untrue, Ok. This is something else from my – from my mother and I’m sure that many other mothers around the world say the same thing – you can catch nasty things from toilet seats.
