After supporting about 100 alt.fuel trials, we see now the follow-ons of

many trials in the proposals submitted to the blending call (14/7/2017)!

. Digital Transport Call – May 2018 (deadline Oct'2018) (all indicative)

» Normal Grant call; about €450 million; topics: ITS, RIS, ERTMS, etc (no alt.fuels) . Next Transport Calls – 2019/2020 ? – (budget unclear, depends on CEF review)

» Works: Grants & loans (&assets) in one proposal (up to 20% grant)

» Trials: Grants (up to 50%); geographical restrictions possible

» On the comprehensive TEN-T network – instead of core only!

» Support for infra & vehicles for all transport modes (no capping on mobile equipment) . Next Synergy Calls – End 2018 / Begin 2019 ?

» Studies with integrated deplovment = Real-life Trials (grant up to 50+10=60%)

» Works = Roll-outs (grant up to 20+10=30%)

. A (Radical) Innovation Deployment Programme for 2020+?

» No research, no demos! (are covered by RTD Framework Prg. 9) (ESA continues its role)

» Basis: Follow-on of 3-sector CEF Synergy – 1 large programme focussed on deployment of innovation (and nothing else!) finally achieving real European dimension in order to compete on the global scene & avoid overlapps, scattered budgets and confusion.

» Content: Perhaps even wider in topics than CEF? – But all as business cases - For example:

• The Green Hydrogen City

• The European Giga Battery Factory (producing also the cells)

• Introducing new modes of transport

- space travel (*)

- 3-dim surface travel (*) (+)

• The Self-sustaining city on the ocean floor (*)

• Exploring the solar system (*) – space mining, station on moon & mars, colonies , – Long term: The Self-sustaining City on Mars, terra-forming, etc.

(*) Mitigating, perhaps solving the limited-earth-resources problem

(+) Alternative fuels will not solve congestion

Current global problems are originally caused by limited resources facing a strongly growing

population. – Wars, refugees, famines, pollution, rising sea, etc are just consequences.

Space exploration could be a possible way to address the basic problem:

1. In finding new resources

2. In moving polluting industries away from Earth

3. Thereby saving our valuable humanity-optimised environment for people (and flora &

fauna) to live

4. In creating new, interesting jobs on Earth and in space

5. In creating new good habitats in space and on Earth

Ultra-charging Deployment & Space as a NMT

o Concern innovation fighting climate change, sustainability, jobs (in Europe)

o Financed by market-sided innovation (trials & roll-outs)

o If possible by the same Radical Innovation Deployment Programme from 2021ff

o I.e. using the same support logic and financial instruments

o Combining energy, transport & ICT in a synergistic way

Elon Musk has understood this relation – He is founder and CEO of Tesla & SpaceX …..SpaceX, BueOrigin, DeepSpace Ind., Boing, etc, - where is Europe?
