Teach your children well

From the principal Hi everyone – The TCS family Cares for each other.

Technology Infant Style This is the latest addition to our Technology Program. It came today and Mr Holden is already an expert! This is Cubette, which is a programming system for Infants. Ms Ellis is all ready to introduce it to Year 1/2.

The students learn about directions, and program the block to go North, South, East and West on the mat in order to reach a set destination. This is a wonderful, creative piece of technology to introduce coding to children when they are at a very early age. This introduces the idea that we can give a machine instructions and the student is in control. At TCS we are moving right away from an ‘App’ mentality where students are just presented with an activity that requires no real thinking, zero creativity and more importantly, no control. It is very, very exciting!

MADD FETE On Friday morning we were firmly of the belief that we must be MADD to do it as we put up the stage, set up the sound, built an obstacle course, set up the BBQ, filled over 200 bottles, emptied the whole of Trangie of a herd of White Elephants, made pavlova, cooked cakes, danced, sang, organised green slime for the runny nose and the list goes on. We thought with trepidation of all the students on the loose around the school with furniture and props and stalls to set up. I can only say that I have never been more impressed, although I do say that every time we have a day like this. I think my bar is getting higher and higher and the students never fail to make me proud. They worked so hard all day, setting up, manning stalls and then performing, that I could not be more proud.

The staff were all amazing and pulled together what turned out to be a wonderful event. We went from MADD to do it to MADD if you missed it.

Thanks so much to everyone who set up, performed, supported, spent money and cleared up afterwards. We will have enough for the second phase of our playground equipment and when you drive past you will all know that you helped us put it there, for the benefit of all our primary children.

Tragic Loss Everyone at TCS was shattered by the news of Ms Skinner’s loss at the weekend. We would like Jess and her family to know how much we love her and that we will all support her in every way that we can.

Attendance banner for this week:

Year 1 – Only one student on the less than 85% attendance list. Year 3 – Only two students on the less than 85% attendance list. Year 5 – Best Primary class and best in the whole school. Year 11 - Best Secondary class. Year 9 – The Secondary year that needs to improve!

Congratulations and well done to all those parents and caregivers who give their child this gift. If you think that attendance is important, so will your child. Regular attendance and punctuality are two of the most sought-after work related skills. Please support your child in developing these habits.

And Finally ........ My door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. I need to know if we are not doing something right but I also need to know that you trust our motives and our intentions. Everything we do, every single day is for YOUR children. If we can do it better, tell us. Facebook is for cowards – so please tell us to our face!

All the best

Head Teacher’s Report

Coming Together

I am so proud of how our school community has come together in the face of tragedy. Students are supporting each other and are seeking the help they need from the peers and adults they know they can trust to help them through their grief. The mutual respect and kindness that we share as we develop relationships in our school is such a valuable part of attending and working at TCS. Our hearts are with the Skinners and their family and friends. HSC Assessment Tasks

While there have been a few tasks due already this term, many students will have their first (and second, third, etc…) HSC assessment tasks due over the coming weeks. It is essential that students are aware of the timing of their deadlines, as well as the nature and requirements of each task. If students have not received a task notification a fortnight before their task is due, they should speak to their Co-Teacher or Course Coordinator as soon as possible, so they know what they need to know and do in order to effectively prepare and to do their best. The HSC is a marathon, not a sprint, and it is worth getting some runs on the board (to mix my sporting metaphors) early.

Assistant Principals’ Report

Thanks for your Support A big thank you to families and friends of TCS for not only donating goods and volunteering to help on our Fete/MADD night but also for turning up in droves to enjoy a terrific afternoon with performances, great food and company. At this point, before final invoices have been paid etc, it looks like this year’s fete raised over $6,000. This is a wonderful outcome and could not have been achieved without our school community working together. A huge thanks also to the hard working mums on the P&C – Kate Broughton, Amanda Kater, Meredith Andrews and Ms Ebsworth. Your hard work was evident in the success of the day.

The school and P&C are set to use this fundraising money to purchase the next stage in our Primary playground equipment. It is now in the process of being ordered and if all goes according to plan, will be installed for the start of school 2018.

School Swimming

At TCS we have the best of both worlds; a small school community with classes that focus on each individual whilst still having good numbers to run exciting sports sessions and compete successfully in inter-school competitions.

Our Swimming program is well underway. This term we have been conducting intensive swimming lessons with a small group of non- confident swimmers each Wednesday as part of our Interest Group program. Miss Parsonage, an Austswim qualified instructor, works with the children on water confidence, safety and survival. She is amazed by the progress the students have made in just 5 weeks.

Students from Years 3-6 also enjoy swimming for Sport each Thursday afternoon. These sessions are all about fun, fitness and enjoying the water with friends. Basic water safety and stroke correction occurs too.

Next week ‘The School Swimming and Water Safety Program’ gets underway. This program is sponsored by the Department of Education and is aimed at non-confident swimmers. The initiative is aimed at reducing drownings and keeping our children safe in and around the water. The program provides opportunities for identified students from Years 2-6 to attend daily lessons for 45 minutes over ten consecutive days. Your child will have received a note if they are to be involved. Please return this ASAP.

Captain’s Speeches 2018 The time has FINALLY arrived for our current Year 5 children, who are interested in running for Captaincy next year, to prepare their speeches. All nominees will give their speeches on morning assembly on Wednesday 22nd of November from 9.00am. Parents and friends are invited to attend. Student and staff voting will take place straight after the assembly. The voting is on a preferential system with each voter making 3 choices (1st, 2nd and 3rd preference). All number one votes earn 3 points, 2nd earn 2 and 3rd earn 1.

Once votes are cast they are sent to Mrs Holden for collating and Captains are then announced at our end of year assembly. This year we have a plethora of excellent candidates; good children who work hard, try hard, are kind to others and show excellent leadership qualities. We wish them all luck!

We have had a very busy term in 1/2E so far. Here are some of our artworks and written responses to our shared texts.

Big Rain Coming: “We need rain!!” I said, boiling in the sun. It is Monday night and Uncle Stephen went home but we went back to our house .We all went straight to bed. But I couldn’t get to sleep because it was too hot to get to sleep. I wiggle and jiggle all night. I went to go and get a drink so I tip toe all the way to the kitchen. I saw my two brothers Sticks and Wombat and my two sisters Elsy and Amy .They were all there. Then we all went to mum and said can we” please go outside “yes” said mum’. That’s a great idea we will come too. Then we all went outside to sleep. When we went to sleep we felt really great because there was a cool breeze. By Remy Big Rain Coming: On Monday night I was sizzling like a hot potato in my bed. I walked to the kitchen and

got the spray bottle and sprayed my entire body even my bubble. Then standing there were Bob and

Gary. They were holding a giant bottle of water. We ran to Mum’s room and asked if we could take our

beds outside. “Great idea,” Mum said to us. So we took our beds outside and hopefully we will feel some

breeze while we sleep. I went to sleep peacefully snoring away and so did Bob and Gary. By Zalia

Big Rain Coming: I was very hot, as a sizzling hot potato! Monday night I tip toed to my mum’s room and said

“Can I take my bed outside?” “Sure,” she said. I took my bed outside and I felt some cool breeze. By Drew

Big Rain Coming:The chubby green frogs bunched around the tap on the water tank. By Leo

Drought: A drought happens when there is no rain for a long time. The ground dries up

because there is no rain and then there is no food for the animals. When the drought

breaks it needs to have lots and lots of rain. By Alex

Drought: A drought is really really dry. Droughts are really dangerous for the animals in the outback. The grass is very dry and animals can die. Some animals need grass to stay alive. When it is really dry the rivers, lakes and ponds all dry up. If all the water dries up all the animals will be thirsty. But if the animals hear thunder and lightning big rain is coming to the outback. By Reggie Drought: A drought is when all of the land becomes bare and when

there is no more water for any of the animals. The crows scuttle

along the land looking for food. The wedge-tailed eagle circles

around the sky. The budgerigars peck on the dust to taste or feel

for food. By Adelaide

What a huge success the Trangie Central School Fete & MADD Night was last Week! We were blessed with warm weather and clear skies and the energy on the day was vibrant and buzzing.

The fete raised a whopping $6500 (with still more coming in). This amazing result means that we can buy stages two and three of the playground equipment for the Primary back area. This is such a wonderful achievement and the benefits for our students are enormous!

The MADD component of the evening was also a huge success. As always our students performed with enthusiasm and vigour and showcased their incredible talents! We were entertained throughout the afternoon by a range of delightful performances organised by class groups and by our karaoke performers. The audience was full of smiling faces of proud parents, family, friends and community members.

The P & C would like to thank each and every person who assisted throughout the day with the organisation and preparation for the Fete & MADD event. The TCS staff worked tirelessly to put acts together, move furniture and to set up stalls. The students were amazing on the day, with an ample supply of willing volunteers and enthusiastic performers. A big thanks too to all the families and community members who came along to help out on the day and to support the stalls and stallholders.

It is events such as these that really demonstrate what a close-knit and supportive school and community we have! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did and we look forward to the next one!
