The Voices of Butrint, Phase 3
Thanks to support from the Butrint Foundation in 2014 an oral history project was
carried out in four villages surrounding Butrint. During the second phase in 2015Trakult prepared an educational package for teachers and pupils of local schools using
the interviews and photographs together. Working with local teachers and using both
the narratives and images we have begun to build strong relationships between Butrint
and its local communities.
In 2016 the project will use material gathered in previous seasons to prepare a small
exhibition. The exhibition will visit the villages involved, ending its tour in the
museum at Butrint. This will also allow us to gather evaluation of the learning booklet
from teachers and schoolchildren . The third phase is intended to start in March 2016.

Albanian industrial heritage andEuropean heritage days
The European Heritage Da ys are the most widely celebrated pa rticipatory cultural event
shared by the citizens of Europe. The aims of the European Heritage Days are to:
- raise the awareness of European citizens to the richness and cultural diversity of
Europe;
- create a climate in which the appreciation of the rich mosaic of European cultures is
stimulated;
- counter racism and xenophobia and e ncourage greater tolerance in Europe a nd beyond
the national borders;
- inform the public and the political authorities about the need to protect cultural
heritage against new threats;
- invite Europe to respond to the social, political and eco nomic challenges it faces.
This year Europe has co me together to examine ou r shared past through the uniqu e lens
of our Industrial Heritage, with more than 30 countries joining this common theme.
Within this framework in November 2015, th e Centre for Albanian Cultural Heritage was
invited in a rounded table held by the Albanian Ministry of Culture. It is very important
to emphasise that the debate on industrial heritage now is at national level. Thanks to
the efforts made so far by the Centre for Albanian Cultural Heritage about the subject
this year the Institute of Monuments in Albania has designed as a listed building the
entrance of the te xtile plant Stalin in Tirana. This is a great ac hievement for Albanian
industrial heritage a theme which was almost unknown five years ago.
