The Care Certificate

Background:
• Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust 2005 – 2009
• Francis Inquiry
• Cavendish Review
• Recommendation that a new ‘Care Certificate’ be developed to apply across health and social care settings, aimed at new support workers.
The Care Certificate:
• Developed by Skills for Care and Skills for Health
• Replaces and builds upon the Common Induction Standards (CIS)
• Outcomes will be quality assured through CQC inspection methodology
• Currently being piloted by Skills for Care
• Implementation April 2015
Care Certificate:
• 15 standards (replacing 8).
• Knowledge and competence must be assessed. The workers practice must be observed in the workplace and recorded appropriately.
• To be completed in first 12 weeks.
• To be signed off by the Registered Manager.
