The Centre for Extension Education, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman organised a
two-day programme on “The Buzan Techniques: Mind Mapping and Creativity” for United
Overseas Bank Malaysia (UOB) on 3 and 4 September 2009. The two-day training held at
United Overseas Bank, Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur was attended by 23 staff from various
departments.
The course trainer, Ms Joy Lim explained that brain skills include lines, logic,
numbers, order, words, imagination, space, colour, rhythm and daydreams. Association of a
word is also important as it gives more information on certain issues. For example, the
trainer asked the participants to write 10 words which can be associated with the word
“Love”. Different participants wrote different words. This shows that association can be used
in brainstorming session where different people will give different type of ideas.
“Radiant thinking emulates the brain and promotes whole brain thinking. Linear
thinking is limited,” said Ms Joy Lim. The staff from UOB also learnt to apply the Mind
Mapping techniques where they can identify the challenges, advantages and disadvantages
arise at work. They can now use them in meetings and communications with great benefit
even for problem solving and brainstorming. Overall, the training was excellent and all the
participants were satisfied with the programme.
