IntroductionWellness and management training are an important component of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). By offering training services, your organization not only helps promote EAP services, but can also equip its employees with skills to proactively enhance their personal wellness and organizational productivity.

Our employee workshops are structured to be one hour in length except where noted. Each workshop uses a combination of lecture, handouts, and group activity or discussion to accomplish learning goals.

Making a RequestTo request a workshop, contact your account manager at 1.800.433.7916. Please give three to four weeks notice when making a request. Work-shops provided in excess of those included within your organization’s EAP contract will be billed at an hourly rate. Although we make every at-tempt to customize our workshops based upon client need, requests requiring more than two to three hours of customization may be subject to additional fees.

Building Self-Esteem in Children Many studies have shown that children with low self-esteem are at higher risk for poor school achievement or alcohol/drug abuse. This workshop will introduce participants to age appropriate stages of child development, and provide practical tips to help their child develop a positive self-esteem.

Balancing Work and Home LifeThis workshop will review common challenges employees experience main-taining work-life balance in today’s busy world. Participants will complete a brief 15 question quiz and be provided with practical tips to achieve better work- life balance.

Children of Divorce Nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce, and when handled poorly, divorce can have a damaging impact on children. This workshop will provide participants with information on how children commonly react to parental divorce, and parental strategies that help children cope and minimize the negative impact of divorce.

Caring for Aging Parents Providing care for an aging parent can not only feel like an awkward role reversal, but it can also produce care giver fatigue. This workshop will review strategies for “caring without intruding”, alternatives to nursing homes, and tips for enhanc-ing communication and self care. A review of available EAP resources will also be provided.

Making Relationships Work: Tips for Maintaining a Happy Marriage Maintaining a happy, healthy relationship can be a challenge at times. This work-shop will review some of the essential ingredients of a healthy marriage and provide suggestions on activities that can make your relationship stronger for you and your partner.

Parenting During the Teen Years Adolescence can be a challenging time for both teens and parents. This workshop discusses the stages of brain development unique to teens, and how parents must adapt a different parenting strategy in order to navigate this stage successfully. Par-ticipants will learn how to avoid common parenting mistakes, and how to shift from a strategy of discipline to a strategy that rewards responsible behavior.

Retirement and YouRetirement preparation should include planning not only for financial security, but also emotional and physical health. This workshop will address some of the common emotional and relationship challenges that can face individuals during retirement, and provide participants with essential tips for success during this next chapter in life.

Time Management This workshop will review the foundational skills that are necessary to effectively manage your time including goal setting, establishing priorities, dealing with interruptions, and managing email and voicemail.

Teens and Substance Abuse: What Every Parent Should Know Most children are exposed to drugs and alcohol at an early age. This workshop is designed to teach participants strategies for talking to children about alcohol and drug use, and how to spot common warning signs that a child might be involved in drugs or alcohol related activities.

When Love Hurts: Understanding Domestic ViolenceDomestic violence is a widespread problem in our society, but unfortunately those suffering often do so in silence and secrecy. This workshop will address the dynamics of power and control that underlie domestic violence, and provide suggestions for how to support someone who is trying to cope with or leave an abusive relationship.

Budgeting When There Isn’t Enough Money This workshop will provide tips on how to develop a budget based upon identifying goals, priorities, and planning for future expenses. Practical tips for how to reduce credit card debt and increase savings will also be shared.

Identity TheftThis workshop will address some of the common techniques used by thieves to steal your identity, and practical tips to help you minimize your risk.

Protecting Your Credit Score This workshop will explain what every consumer should know about their credit score. Learn how to build an A+ credit history, dispute errors, and obtain a free copy of your credit report.

Psychology of MoneyResearch shows that when making spending decisions, we base our deci-sions on emotion rather than logic. This workshop will review what mean-ing we attach to money and how it influences our ability to be a good money manager.

Ten Steps to Financial HealthAchieving financial health takes disciple and planning. This workshop will review 10 foundational strategies to achieve financial health such as reducing debt, preparing early for retirement, creating a savings account for emergency expenses, and following a budget.

This workshop will review five characteristics that can help promote stress resiliency. Substance Abuse Education Nearly 10% of Americans struggle with an alcohol or drug problem. This program is designed to address some of the common myths about substance abuse, and pro-vide participants with information about the most effective treatment options for substance abuse disorders.

Job Stress: Strategies To Enhance Your ResiliencyJob stress is consistently identified as a primary source of personal stress, and surveys in recent years continue to suggest that perceived levels of job stress are on the rise. While some factors causing job stress are outside the ability of the employees to control, other strategies such as creating accountability, clarifying priorities, or maintaining a solution focused attitude can greatly en-hance stress resiliency. Appreciating Workplace Diversity Every employee possesses a unique set of skills and experiences that can serve as both an asset and a source of conflict or misunder-standing in the workplace. This interactive and thought provoking workshop uses activity and small group discussion to encourage participants to think about diversity in a broad context of attitudes, behaviors, and personal characteristics.

Effective Communication SkillsThis foundational workshop is designed to provide participants with skills to become a great communicator. Participants will learn about the essential skills used by effective communicators, and the differences between passive, aggressive, and assertive communica-tion styles. An opportunity for evaluation of a participants commu-nication style will also be provided.

Communication BreakdownCommunication breakdowns are common in the workplace, and the increased reliance on electronic communication which can be easily misinterpreted only adds to the potential for misunderstanding. This workshop reviews seven common reasons for workplace miscom-munication and how to overcome them.

Who Moved My Cheese: Coping with the Stress of ChangeChange is a constant in our lives, both personally and professionally. This workshop will introduce participants to common reactions to change, and strategies that can be utilized to thrive during a time of uncertainty.

Compassion FatigueWhile any professional may occasionally experience burnout, par-ticularly when self-care is lacking, first responders and those in the helping professions who are exposed to “trauma” can be at high risk for a more serious form of burnout known as Compassion Fa-tigue. Identified by a variety of symptoms ranging from a lessening of compassion, increased hopelessness or negativity, emotional numbness, and sleep difficulties, Compassion Fatigue is consid-ered an “occupational hazard” in some professions. This workshop will teach participants the differences between burnout and

compassion fatigue, and provide personal and organizational strategies to help manage symptoms in order to maintain personal and professional wellbeing

Dealing with Difficult People All of us deal with difficult people from time to time, whether in the workplace, at home, or in your neighborhood. This workshop will explore what makes some people “difficult”, and common communication strategies that can help reduce conflict when interacting with these individuals.

Emotional IntelligenceEmotional Intelligence (EQ) more so than IQ or technical skills is believed to determine job success. This workshop will introduce participants to the concept of EQ and how it can impact personal and professional success. Provided in either a one or two hour for-mat, the two hour program will provide participants an opportunity to assess their emotional intelligence skills, and review strategies to enhance their EQ.

Foundations of Excellent Customer ServiceWhile most organizations claim to provide excellent customer service, few actually do. This workshop will introduce participants to eight foundational skills of excellent customer service, as well as provide tips and suggestions for managing customer conflict.

This workshop will explore how some of the common generational differences regarding communication, leadership style, and work-life balance preferences can lead to workplace conflict. Participants will be encouraged to explore how taking a strengths based approach to gener-ational diversity can help an organization tap into the hidden potential of a multigenerational workforce.

Meeting Facilitation SkillsIf your staff meetings are unproductive, get off topic, or include participants that don’t engage in discussion, then this workshop is for you. Learn the foundational skills necessary to facilitate an effective meeting in your place of work.

Public Speaking with Confidence Many individuals feel nervous when speaking in front of a group (whether small or large). This workshop is designed to help individuals learn to manage nerves and apprehension before and during a presentation, while also providing tips to improve verbal and non-verbal delivery of a presentation.

Resolving Workplace Conflict Workplace conflict can be caused by personal stress, personality style, and differing beliefs or goals. Under stress, most people resort to unhealthy methods of resolving differences. This workshop will allow participants to assess their personal style of conflict resolution, and review six strategies for achieving a successful outcome.

Improving Teamwork- Overcoming Five Team DysfunctionsAdapted from Patrick Lencioni’s best-selling book “The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team”, this 2 hour interactive workshop provides teams with an opportuni-ty to evaluate 5 key components of effective teamwork including trust, con-flict resolution, goal setting, accountability, and attention to results. Using the results from a team health assessment conducted during the workshop, participants will discuss the unique strengths and opportunities for improve-ment identified by the assessment, and then develop a plan of action for the coming year to help maintain or enhance team health and functioning.

What Personality Color Are You? Understanding Work Style PreferencesThis fun and interactive workshop is designed to help participants learn how differences in personality and temperament can impact workplace relation-ships. Participants will be provided an opportunity to assess their work style temperament using a tool based upon the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator. Following a self assessment, a facilitated group discussion will assist partici-pants in identifying strategies to effectively work with other team members.

Creating A Great Place To WorkFor the past 30 years, The Great Places To Work Institute has been studying the qualities of great workplaces in over forty countries. Their research has shown that when employees demonstrate certain qualities such as pride in their work or trust in who they work for, the organization experiences significant and measurable increases in profitability, customer service, and employee morale. This interactive workshop introduces participants to the qualities of a great workplace by using real world examples based upon the institutes list of top 100 companies. Then through the use of small group discussion, team members identify the qualities of their ideal co-worker as a first step toward developing an action plan that helps their organization become a great place to work.

GLOBAL RELOCATION

Making the Most of Your International Assignment Preparing for an international assignment can be both exciting and over-whelming. This workshop will introduce participants to common reactions experienced during the early stages of an international assignment, and encourage discussion with loved ones in order to develop realistic expec-tations that can help you thrive during your assignment.

Helping Children Adjust to an International Assignment It’s difficult when children are forced to leave friends and familiar surround-ings behind in order to support their parent’s decision to take an interna-tional assignment. This workshop will explore a variety of strategies to help your children adjust, both physically and emotionally to this transition.

Repatriation For some people, the repatriation process that occurs when an international assignment ends can be just as challenging as the initial move. This work-shop will address common adjustment challenges of repatriation such as decreased employer support, potential loss of status, or helping children return to a place they no longer call home, and provide participants with education and available resources to enhance your coping skills.

Building a High Performance Team Effective teamwork is the product of careful planning and execution. Participants will learn about the five elements of a high performance team, and assess which elements their team possesses. Strategies for improving team health will be reviewed, and active discussion and real life examples for overcoming team dysfunction will be encouraged.

Conflict Resolution Skills for Managers Participants will learn about six common causes of workplace conflict such as a lack of accountability or a perceived lack of trust and respect, and strategies to resolve these conflicts. An opportunity to assess one’s personal conflict resolution style, and discuss scenarios in small group format will also be provided.

What Supervisors Need to Know About Workplace Harassment This 1.5 hour workshop expands upon the employee version by discussing the legal implications of a harassment complaint, and reviewing the supervisor’s responsibility for communicating clear policies and intervening appropriately when workplace harassment concerns are raised.

EAP Supervisor ReferralThis workshop provides an overview of services provided by the Employee Assistance Program, placing specific emphasis on how the program can assist supervisors in managing troubled employees. Participants will learn about the three types of EAP referrals, and how the program can be used as a powerful tool to address workplace performance concerns.

Managing Workplace ChangeOrganizations must quickly adapt their practices in order to stay competitive in today’s business environment. When change occurs rapidly or with limited explanation, however, employees are more resistant toward embracing these changes. This workshop provides an overview of common employee reactions to change, and discusses leadership strategies to effectively lead during this time of transition.

Suicide Awareness for ManagersThis workshop reviews common myths and facts about suicide. Managers will be provided information on how mental health professionals assess suicide risk, as well as tips and resources for talking to an at risk employee in the workplace.

The Mindset of a Great Leader Using Ken Blanchard’s model of Situational Leadership as a foundation, this workshop will review seven qualities of great leaders as identified by recent research, and examples of how well known leaders have demonstrated these qualities in real life to produce results.

Coaching for SuccessEvaluating employee job performance is a common responsibility for most supervisors. Whether this process is met with resistance or embraced as an opportunity for improvement, however, is in large part determined by the supervisor’s approach. This workshop will review the differences between coaching and discipline, and how supervisors can utilize SMART goals to drive performance improve-ment. Participants will also be provided with a list of 10 great coach-ing questions that promote professional development.

Creating an Engaged WorkforceResearch shows that front line supervisors play a critical role in maintaining employee satisfaction and productivity. This workshop will use the model of Transformational Leadership and theories of psychological motivation as a framework to introduce nine skills that supervisors can use in order to enhance employee engagement.

Developing a Culture of AccountabilitySuccessful organizations recognize that performance goals can’t be achieved in the absence of accountability. This two hour workshop reviews four critical tasks that leaders can utilize to create or enhance a culture of accountability in their organization.

Preventing Workplace HarassmentThis workshop provides an overview of workplace harassment, common behaviors to avoid, and employee/employer responsibilities for maintaining a positive work environment. Differences in gender communication styles will also be discussed.

Preventing Workplace Violence This workshop will address the different types of workplace violence, and introduce different strategies for reducing risk including how to defuse potentially hostile situations.

Substance Abuse Education for DOT Employees This workshop provides education about substance abuse required by the Department of Transportation, including warning signs of problematic alcohol or drug abuse, and the consequences to DOT regulated employees for providing a positive test.

Substance Abuse Education for Supervisors This workshop builds upon the employee training and provides supervisors additional information concerning the guidelines for establishing reasonable suspicion, and talking points for intervening with employees who demon-strate signs of impaired behavior.
