Traineeships -An Employer’s

Guide

Produced by Easton & Otley College for use with employers

Welcome I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking on an Easton and Otley College Trainee Work Placement and for helping them to successfully complete their course.

The following pack contains:

Course Information Copy of learner Work Experience Code of

Conduct in the work placement Contact Information Log Book Traineeship Overview

Course Information In this pack you will find a brief outline of the course and what is expected of the learner in the workplace.

Aim and purpose The course covers Job Search, Maths, English, ICT and Customer Service. The course overview is included in this pack. The aim of the placement is to provide the learner with the experience required to complete the course and find employment in an office environment. It is hoped that during the time with you, the learner will benefit from the experience and understand the expectations that employers will have of them in a job. Please be aware that the learner may not have sufficient skills to work unattended or to a sufficient standard at the beginning of the placement.

Work Placement Dates The work placement will commence on Monday 2nd June for eight weeks, Monday to Thursday. The learner will attend College on Friday. Prior to the learner coming to work with you, a Health and Safety check and the provision of a copy of your current Employers Liability

Insurance certificate will be required. The Health and Safety check will be carried out with the least inconvenience to yourself.During the placement the tutor from the College will need to come into your place of work to discuss the progress of the learner and complete observations of the learner in order for them to achieve the customer service qualification. The learner is required to get a log book signed by their work placement supervisor when certain tasks have been achieved. The nature of the task will be in the log book and make up part of their customer service qualification. There is a space for you, the employer to make comments on their performance if you wish. We would encourage you to provide a true reflection of their abilities including personal skills. In addition we are asking you, as work experience provider to complete an exit review for the learner at the end of the placement. An exit review consists of constructive feedback on learners’ performance and a formal reference. You may be asked questions, please note that all learners are made aware of confidentiality on their first day and any information supplied by you is kept confidential.

Student Information As part of the preparation the learner will be expected to conform to acceptable standards of work. They will receive the following guidance;

Be punctual – ring your supervisor if you are going to be late.

Absences -Give notice if you are not going to be in work. It is possible that the placement may become concerned over your welfare if you do not attend unexpectedly.

Illnesses- If you are ill ring your supervisor and let them know before you are due to start work.

Appointments – should be made if possible outside of college and work placement work hours.

Attire – if you are given a dress code for work you are expected to follow this.

Health and Safety – please ensure that you are aware of the Fire procedures, Accident procedures and general workplace rules at the start of your placement.

Behaviour – whilst on your placement you are an ambassador for Easton & Otley College and as such are expected to behave as laid out in the college handbook.

Incidents of inappropriate behaviour will be dealt with under the college disciplinary

procedures and/or may result in loss of work experience placements.
