What? Film trailers are used as part of marketing

campaigns to create a sense of anticipation for the film. Resulting in greater viewings

Trailers can be described as adverts for films- due to being able to serve the same purpose

They should be screened to a large audience to raise the films awareness to the largest market possible

They can also establish he genre to the audience and give a brief insight to the plot

Why?

Trailers are mainly used to create awareness for the film and generate the maximum amount of viewings

The trailer will also give in an insight to the genre and content of the film

The trailer will show a release date for the film

Who?

Appeal to the same audience as the film would appeal to

Tries to approach a wide audience, to attract the most views at release date

Aimed at the audience who would watch this genre

How?

Trailers use USP’s to attract more views to the film and create anticipation

They may be unique in the SFX or Gere e.g Warm Bodies

They use new or different elements to create something ‘new’ for the audience

Where?

New trailers are generally distributed at the cinema

Trailers which gain a certain amount of anticipation or public ‘hype’ can be shared around via social media

Modern trailers are mostly now distributed on places like YouTube, where they can hit a global market

Usually shown near the end of the production of the film or a year from release

Shown at a time where the ‘buzz’ for the film does not die before the release
