What? Film trailers are used as part of marketing
campaigns to create a sense of anticipation for the film. Resulting in greater viewings
Trailers can be described as adverts for films- due to being able to serve the same purpose
They should be screened to a large audience to raise the films awareness to the largest market possible
They can also establish he genre to the audience and give a brief insight to the plot
Why?
Trailers are mainly used to create awareness for the film and generate the maximum amount of viewings
The trailer will also give in an insight to the genre and content of the film
The trailer will show a release date for the film
Who?
Appeal to the same audience as the film would appeal to
Tries to approach a wide audience, to attract the most views at release date
Aimed at the audience who would watch this genre
How?
Trailers use USP’s to attract more views to the film and create anticipation
They may be unique in the SFX or Gere e.g Warm Bodies
They use new or different elements to create something ‘new’ for the audience
Where?
New trailers are generally distributed at the cinema
Trailers which gain a certain amount of anticipation or public ‘hype’ can be shared around via social media
Modern trailers are mostly now distributed on places like YouTube, where they can hit a global market
When?
Usually shown near the end of the production of the film or a year from release
Shown at a time where the ‘buzz’ for the film does not die before the release
