The trails are designed specifically for walking/running and bicycling. Equestrian use is allowed in Cottonmill Park at Oldfather Prairie and Meadowlark North Park . All motorized vehicles are prohibited except for maintenance, official or emergency vehicles. Electrically assisted pedal-powered bicycles and tricycles (maximum speed 20 mph) are allowed . Also allowed are electrically powered mobility devices for persons with disabilities . Trail use may be limited when reserved for events or for maintenance .
H E L M E T S R E C O M M E N D E D
For your safety, all cyclists and equestrian users should wear helmets . Your helmet should be snug and level on your head, and sit low on your forehead . Buckle and tighten your chin strap so that no more than one or two fingers fit under the strap.

expect to be back .✓ Bring a cell phone and ID .✓ Avoid using headphones .✓ Watch for and adhere to trail signage .✓ Check the weather prior to leaving .✓ Be aware of your surroundings .✓ Be prepared to stop or yield at road crossings .✓ Choose appropriate clothing/footwear .✓ Carry food/water for long trips .✓ Bring a whistle and/or pepper spray .✓ For emergencies, call 911 .

✓ Keep to the right side of the trail and pass on the left side .✓ Use your voice “On your left” well in advance of passing
others . Listen for and acknowledge when others are passing to allow for them to pass safely .
✓ When traveling in a group, move to the right when meeting oncoming users .
✓ Cyclists should yield to pedestrians . Cyclists and pedestrians should yield to horses .
✓ Control your speed . Be cautious on busy trails, or when there is low visibility or slippery surfaces .
✓ Keep the trails beautiful . Pack out all trash .

✓ Pets must be kept under restraint of a leash and under control of a competent person . (City Code 2711) . The pet shall be reined within four feet of the responsible person .
✓ Pet owners are responsible of prompt removal and disposal of waste deposited by their animal (City Code 2711) .

COTTONMILL PARK TO FT. KEARNY PARKTOTAL DISTANCE: 13.10 MILES
Cottonmill to Ft . Kearny State Park is considered to be the spine of the Kearney trail system and totals the distance of a half marathon . This section uniquely connects a City/County Park to a State Park . Along the way, the trail borders the Kearney Canal and Turkey Creek, and passes by the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Yanney Park, 2nd Avenue business district, and The Archway . The section from UNK to the East Expressway has trail lights . The section from The Archway to Ft . Kearney offers a concrete trail as well as a Limestone trail that is often preferred by runners . Trailhead parking is available at Cottonmill Park, Yanney Park, The Archway, I-80 Underpass, and Ft. Kearny. Bike fix-it stations, water stations, and rest areas are available along the way .

YANNEY PARK TO CENTRAL AVENUETOTAL DISTANCE: 2.3 MILES
Changing your mode of travel to kayak or canoe, the Kearney Water Trail is a one-of-kind amenity in central Nebraska that attracts thousands of users . The typical season length is April through October . Fed by the Kearney Canal, the water trail joins the North Channel of the Platte River, otherwise known as Turkey Creek . An entrance landing and trailhead parking is available at Yanney Park . The exit landing is located on the west side of Central Avenue . The water trail offers a unique recreational opportunity .
COTTONMILL PARK APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES
Cottonmill Park is the perfect spot for a nature walk or some single track mountain bike riding . Oldfather Prairie is one of the most popular locations and offers a .75 and 2 mile loop . This is one of the few trail sections that can be utilized for horseback riding . The Red Cedar Trail meanders through trees and past the lake . Beck Memorial Trail offers some hills and goes past the Rotary Nature Barn . Lorma’s Overlook is the newest addition to Cottonmill Park, and offers a trail that circles through pristine prairie and a beautiful view of the Platte River Valley .
MEADOWLARK NORTH PARK APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES
These grass/dirt trails are excellent for a challenging mountain bike ride or a beautiful autumn jog . This trail system offers a variety of route choices for the user . The trail passes by the dog park, BMX track, archery range, and golf course . Trailhead parking is available .
TED BALDWIN PARK APPROXIMATELY .7 MILES
Nestled between the Ted Baldwin Park soccer fields and the Lighthouse Point Lake, the trail sits in a natural prairie valley . Terrific groves of Sumac, which turn deep red in the fall, can be seen along the trail . This trail is highly used by those living in nearby neighborhoods .

YANNEY PARK TO FOUNTAIN HILLS PARK TOTAL DISTANCE: 4.88 MILES
The nearly 5 mile route, which includes some hills, connects to such parks as Yanney Park, West Lincolnway Park, Meadowlark North Park, Baldwin Park, and Fountain Hills Park . The trail also leads to Kearney High School and Central Community College . Trailhead parking is available at Yanney Park, West Lincolnway Park and Baldwin Park .

TOTAL DISTANCE: 4.71 MILESThis trail section connects to the North 2nd Avenue business district, Meadowlark Elementary School, Sunrise Middle School, Harvey Park, and Nina Hammer Park . The Avenue M Overpass helps trail users to easily bypass Highway 30 and the railroad tracks . On the south end, this trail intersects the Central Route Trail leading to Cottonmill Park and Ft . Kearny State Park .
