Stop Violence Against Women

• “Violence against women is perhaps the most shameful human rights violation, and it is perhaps the most pervasive. It knows no boundaries of geography, culture or wealth.”

- Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General

• Forms of violence are uniquely used against women: forced pregnancies, forced abortions/sterilisation, bride burning and dowry-related abuses, female genital mutilation. Others are mostly used against women: domestic abuse, rape, rape as a weapon of war, sexual harassment, trafficking

• Violence against women is different in its nature, severity and impact. It is both the cause and effect of inequality.
