• Coughs, colds and the flu

• Earaches

• Fever

• Headaches

• Pinkeye

• Rashes or skin irritations

• Head lice

• Allergies

• Sore throat

• Follow-ups from previous Children’s

telehealth consults

Not appropriate for Telehealth:

• Isolated Diarrhea

• Isolated Vomiting

• Emergencies

Step 2: Obtain Consent

• Signed documentation by a parent or guardian, providing consent for care must be

on file for each student who is seen via Telehealth, each school year.

• Methods to obtain consent:

1. Online, by parent:

or

through district registration

2. Paper, submitted by nurse via:

–Call 844-4Telemed (844-483-5363)

–Roster emailed from Sr. Patient Access Rep (“SPAR”)?

–Your records or district registration portal

• Confirm consent verbally for Telehealth visit on that day

• Billing:

–Call 844-4Telemed for detailed questions

–Basic billing information:

»Medicaid – Nothing out of pocket

»CHIP – Minimal cost/copay

»Commercial insurance – cost varies

»No insurance – $50 or “prompt pay discount”

• Other helpful information from parent:

• New Allergies and/or conditions

• Medication(s) taken that day

• Pharmacy

• Do they want to partake in or call into visit?

AVS - “After Visit Summary”

“Supervisor” only required for MA’s

Step 4: Intake, Point of Care Testing (POCT)

• Diagnostic testing done at the “point of care”; examples: rapid Strep or rapid Flu tests

• Allows for most accurate diagnosis and effective treatment

• “Standing Orders” allow school nurses to begin diagnostic process ASAP, even before the Telehealth consult

begins

Step 6: After Visit Summary

• What is the AVS?

• Provider’s summary of visit findings and recommendations

• Like “discharge” papers

• Print and place in sealed envelope for parents/guardians after EVERY VISIT

• Accessing the AVS:

• Your EPIC username and password will be sent to you within a month of your training

• Then, you’ll set-up your account by following the instructions found here.

• In the future, access EPIC this way:
