www.nordicbuildingforum.fiDEAR FRIENDS &

COLLEAGUES,PROGRAM

You are welcome to the 2011 Nordic Building Forum and to the brand new Helsinki Music Centre on 1-2 September. Also, do not miss the post-congress tour Helsinki by the Sea on 3 September.

The main theme of the congress is ‘‘The Energy Efficient Community’’. High-class lecturers representing the top of the government, industrial and design life will present new views and ideas and answer questions like:

• How do ecological solutions in design and building affect our everyday life?

• Can an urban environment be energy saving? • How to do green business? Our keynote speaker is architect Andreas Klok Pedersen from Copenhagen representing BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group. BIG is a group of architects, designers and thinkers operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, research and development. BIG has created technically innovative buildings that are cost and resource conscious.

The congress will start with a reception at Helsinki City Hall. The lectures will be held in the new Helsinki Music Centre which opens for public in the fall 2011. The traditional ‘Byggnatt’ dinner will take place at the restaurant NJK, the prestigious Yacht Club established in 1861.

An integral part of the congress is a Bus Excursion to the new residential areas of Arabianranta and Aurinkolahti, and to Vuosaari harbour. Arabianranta is a design city by the sea bay where arts and construction are interrelated. Aurinkolahti residential area in the Eastern part of Helsinki represents a modern maritime area with a waterside promenade and a beach. The new Vuosaari harbour is one of the few entirely new port constructions in the world. The new location of the cargo harbour has released several waterfront areas for housing construction in the central parts of Helsinki, where the harbour used to be. These and many other waterfront areas will be seen at the optional post-congress boat cruise Helsinki by the Sea on 3 September. -Welcome to 2011 Nordic Building Forum!
